July 21, 200421 yr I want to make some mesh scenery for some south pacific islands, particularly the Cook islands and French Polynesia. It is my understanding that the SRTM data for these areas was just released to the public, but I'm having some trouble finding it. I went here: ftp://edcsgs9.cr.usgs.gov/pub/data/srtm/ and found the folder for the islands and downloaded one or two folders, but the data is in a format I've never heard of before (.hgt). Someone please tell me how I can use this data!Thanks,-Scott
July 22, 200421 yr Commercial Member Hi Scott,FSDEM is a good tool: http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...g_id=1964&page=It also contains very detailed instructions and necessary background information (as opposed to Matthew Style's SRTM2BGL, which is an alternative utility for this task). In either case I highly recommend you browse through Steve Greenwood's mesh design pages so that you know what you (and FS) are doing: http://www.fs-traveler.com/welcome.shtmlGood luck with your project!Cheers, Holger
July 22, 200421 yr Author Thanks for your help Holger, FSDEM is exactly what I needed! I've made a few meshes before, but all of them were in the U.S., which seems to be easier to find mesh for, and all of the data I used was already processed by a 3rd party.-Scott
