March 9, 200719 yr What is the recommended tool/method to add sloping sides around the raised airports to eliminate the sheer cliffs that some set on due to 9m mesh?Regards,Dick Boley regards, Dick near Pittsburgh, USA
March 9, 200719 yr Author Commercial Member Hi Dick,Creating an actual mesh file for those locations would be rather tricky because you'll need to generate a fictitious raster elevation grid from scratch. Only way I know of to do that is with commercial GIS software, though there may be free alternatives.Instead, I'd opt for sloped flattens or manipulating the default airport and its flatten. Here are a couple of links that discusss options:http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...ing_type=searchhttp://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...ing_type=searchhttp://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...ing_type=searchNow, if you're talking FSX then you could also try to reduce the size of the airport flatten itself. FSX allows to exclude flattens and replace them with your own, smaller version, which may help. You'll need SBuilderX (Beta) or FSX KML for those tasks.LWM3s still work in FSX but you'll need to create them in SBuilder for FS9 because the sloped polygons new to FSX are not fully supported yet by any design utility. Cheers, Holger
March 10, 200719 yr Hi Dick and Holger.SBuilderX does support sloped polys in the new FSX mode. Each point of a polygon can be given an elevation, and using the "Airport_Backgrounds_Flatten" a simple sloped poly is made.Dick
March 10, 200719 yr Author Commercial Member Hi Dick, cool, thanks, I didn't realize this was possible yet in SBuilderX.Cheers, Holger
