June 24, 200322 yr OK - Let me know how this compares to the RW! :-) http://forums.avsim.com/user_files/18614.jpg And here are a couple more angles of KGKT: Randall Rocke
June 24, 200322 yr hmmmm, I can see the rental car waiting on the ramp :) I splurged too, opted for the Neon over the Escort!!Comparing the scenery to the Atlanta Sectional I have in front of me the first pic is looking east over Douglas Lake, second pic would be west/SW with Sevierville and Pigeon Forge (don't forget about Dollywood!!) in the distance and the third pick would be looking toward Gatlinburg nestled in the valley with Clingman's Dome on the highest peak which tops out at 6,643ft MSL. Just remember that south of Gatlinburg it is a Natioal Park so you need to stay at least 2000 feet above the highest point, so in a Cessna 172 this time of year with the high density altitude taking off from GKT it would take about three days to climb high enough to clear the mountains :) Also south of Gatlinburg is the Snowbird MOA so call and check for activity, lest ye be confronted with afterburner wake from flock of low flying F-16's..YE HA!!c ya :-waveBart [email protected]http://bartsflyplace.tripod.com/bart_logo3.jpg
June 25, 200322 yr Author Yup - you nailed them. As usual, the uploaded compressed images really don't do the scenery justice. In the original shot of the 3rd image, Gatlinburg is much more visible than that soft blur you see here.I would think the main problem with flying in this area would be the haze. I've been on top of Clingman's Dome when you could see into 5 states (if you're lucky enough to be there on one of the 3 clear days a year). The rest of the time...well, they don't call them the Smokies for nothing. :-) Randall Rocke
