Smokestacks

Recommended Posts

I just wanted to say thanks to Y. PEYBALE of ROTW for the smokestacks DLL. I just tested it on some new scenery I made of the Cincinnati Muni airport (see attached pics).I am still experimenting with how to use it. But it does follow the wind and is fun to use in the pattern. Harry Gentilozzi

BartNo I don't. But I have about 200 airports TM'ed. Its become an addiction. My favorite in Ohio is the Cleveland Burke (BLK) airport.Harry

SteveLet me give you a short set of directions and let me know what I should expand on.1) In my case I used TM to make the KLUK airport. (Thanks a billion Allen Kriesman for a great piece of software). I put a couple of smokestacks out there. When I made them I hit the 2D button and wrote down the name of the SMF file. In my example it was called DLUK2050.SMF.2) When I was finished with the TM model and had it PODed up I quite TM. I then un-podded the file. I went to the Data directory. Inside there were a couple of sub directories with names like D195158. Inside of these there were file names like TM_LUK_W.S10. There will be more than one. Look inside each using a text editor until you find the SMF file name from step 1 (DLUK2050.SMF).3) You would have found an entry that looks something like: ---- world object type ---- mobj ========== BEGIN OBJECT ========== 39 06'13.7264"N 84 25'58.2722"W 483.000000 ---- object type ---- mobj ---- gestalt flags ---- 106757 ---- detail level ---- 3 ---- object name (descriptive) ---- TOWER 001510031 ---- model manager ---- ========== BEGIN OBJECT ========== ---- model entry ---- norm DLUK2050.SMF ========== END OBJECT ========== ---- night model manager ---- ========== BEGIN OBJECT ========== ---- model entry ---- norm NLUK2050.SMF ========== END OBJECT ========== ---- inertial angular position ---- 0.000000,1.309000,0.000000 ========== END OBJECT ==========Look for the tag and copy it: ---- object name (descriptive) ---- TOWER 001510031Then steal and insert this entry after the one above: ---- world object type ---- _lod ========== BEGIN OBJECT ========== --- smoke offset (lat, lon, alt) ---- 0,0,100 --- funnel smoke object name --- TOWER 001510031 --- seconds between two smokes --- 0.2 --- feet between two smokes --- 20 --- sight limit distance --- 5.0 --- array number --- 8 --- smoke objects array --- fumee.smf fumee1.smf fumee2.smf fumee3.smf fumee.smf fumee1.smf fumee2.smf fumee3.smf ========== END OBJECT ==========And change two things. First --- funnel smoke object name --- TOWER 001510031Set this to the same name as the tag of the first object. Set the x, y, and z offset by changing the tag. --- smoke offset (lat, lon, alt) ---- 0,0,100Here mine is centered on the object and 100 feet high.Thats it. Make sure you followed Y. PEYBALE instrucitons for the DLL and Smoke pod files. My last step was to re-pod the TMLUK.POD file and clean up the Data and Models directory.Does this help at all?Harry Gentilozzi

Hi guys,It`s great fun this funnel-smoke dll.BUT don`t forget to give applause to Laurent Claudet. He is the man who made the DLL.The idea to do it came from ( the great airport designer) Yves PeybaleRegardsLeen

LeenThe only name I saw was Yves Peybale. Sorry for the oversight. Thanks Laurent!!!. I love the little things that make the envrionment richer. Can you tell me how to make different kinds of smoke? Like dark smoke from old factories or large plums form Nuclear reactor colling towers.Harry

HiI think there is just one kind of smoke.Just plain ordinary smoke.BUT:We already have sound-cards,video-cards and in a short timewe probably have ODOUR-cards attached to a smell-surround -system.I am sure Laurent can cope with that as wel :-)ByeLeen

Laurent Claudet wrote to me.....Actually, you can use every kind of self made SMF file or BIN and with the fly!II editor you can even scale those puffy smoke objects I made to a much larger shape ..Laurent will give a more specific explanation about this issue ASAP.So, it seems to be possible to make any kind of smoke we like.

Hi all,the smoke wobj can be modified in many ways :- you can place as many smoke objects as you want, just give the right 'num_'- with the aircraft smoke dll I got up to 40 smoke objects !- you can repeat each smf as many times you wish- you can scale my fumee.smf with the fly!II shape editor (Ctrl+fly.exe)- you can make your own smf or bin (but smf are better for transparency)- you can change pointed art file in the smf files by hand too(just change art file name inside and see the result in shape editor)We (rotw) are trying to made up some factories funnel smoke and Yves has called for some changes as :- lesser wind magnitude- higher display when there's no windI made a v2 but I prefer to wait until he's completely satisfied to release it.It's better if we have only a dll for this feature instead of many ... don't we ?Yves smoke factories are great and really useful for landing.Laurent

LaurentThanks! I think I'll wait for V2 before attempting any new smoke of my own. I did notice that the DLL got a fatal error after I flew away from the object about 200 miles. It got a fatal error in the DestroyObject call of the DLL. This usually only happens when you attempt to free an object that has not been allocated. Any ideas?Harry

Alejandro I am sorry. That was rude of me. I did get your message. I left town before I got a chance to reply and then I just forgot. I get about 60 emails a day and once it comes off the front page I lose track.Harry
