The reason is to allow clean rotation upon touchdown (a 'fixed' nosewheel could cause you to dart off the runway real fast) and to prevent a sideways lurch when the nose lifts during takeoff. It's just a pity we can't model it in FU3. My Dash-8 'advisor' in Canada described an accident which occurred in a jet because the nosewheel didn't unlock before landing. Although nobody was injured, the aircraft was a write-off (due to crossing a drainage ditch).Jon Point*************************([email protected])*************************
