Watch Out!..Another Bright Idea!

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys,This is a snippet from a reply on the thread I started titled "Advisories". This reply is in regard to the way FSMeteo is handling weather conditions and how it is planned to handle them in a future upgrade...FSMeteo will store the conditions from these nearby stations in a buffer so you can query them. So, this got me to thinking that since version three will be able to support alternate airports, it may be good to be able to provide a function through RC to check weather at your alternate prior to diverting to make sure it still meets alternate minimums. It's generally not a good idea to divert only to find the weather at the alternate is in the tank once you arrive! :7Mike CollierKPHX

http://avsim.com/flightdeck/images/Radar_small.gifhttp://www.dispatcher.org|Dispatcher' target="_blank"> America West Airlines and proud to be a Beta Tester of[link:www.jdtllc.com]Radar Contact]The premiere ATC adventure add-on for FS

well i can tell you a little about what we are doing with fsmeteo, and how your bright idea could be implemented, only in a slightly different way.first, what we are doing now. when you miss approach, and go to an alternate, and fsmeteo is running, i change the fsmeteo arrival airport to the new arrival airport, and that weather will be locked in at 60 miles. while on center frequency, you can also change destination to anywhere in the world, and when you do this, the arrival airport in fsmeteo will be changed accordingly.now to do what you are talking about, let's say you miss approach, choose holding as published, or holding vectors. while in those holding patterns, flip over to fsmeteo, and query the alternate airports weather, and decide where you want to go. back to fs/rc, and tell arrival (or center) that you want to land at alt1 or alt2, whichever looks best.same for enroute, flip over to fsmeteo, find out the weather at where you changed your mind to go to. if it is decent, flip back to fs/rc and request change of destination. fsmeteo will automatically change to the new arrival airport as it's destination airport.sound good?

jd,Hmm. Ok, so if I understand correctly I'd have to pause FS and toggle over to FSMeteo to check weather manually before deciding where to go. Although that's certainly a solution I was thinking more in terms of going off freq and dialing up an ATIS for my alternate without having to pause the sim. Actually, the ultimate experience (and yes, I'm very biased!) would be to have a "Dispatch Module" to add in to RC. The whole sequence of events for a hold and diversion on the real world side would be something along the line of:-Flight Enters a hold-Flight Contacts the dispatcher for burn down instructions-Dispatcher would provide the crew with a "bingo fuel" figure and provide weather updates for the alternate, or change the planned alternate and provide a fuel burn to the new alternate-If the specified minimum diversion fuel figure is reached and the flight is unable to land at the destination, THEN they contact ATC and request the diversion to the alternate. So, I guess what I was really looking for was a way to dial up a freq and go through a procedure to obtain a weather update for the alternate without having to pause. If that's not possible then toggling over to FSMeteo would certainly be an acceptable alternative. Thanks for the info!Mike CollierKPHX

http://avsim.com/flightdeck/images/Radar_small.gifhttp://www.dispatcher.org|Dispatcher' target="_blank"> America West Airlines and proud to be a Beta Tester of[link:www.jdtllc.com]Radar Contact]The premiere ATC adventure add-on for FS
