August 23, 200223 yr Hello,The last radar contact I bought was RC V2, I used RC a lot with FS2000 and when I bought FS2002 I didn
August 24, 200223 yr UlissesThe leap from v2 to v2.1 was a big one, one we could've easily justified pricing (but didn't). Then fs2k2 came along. We released v2.2 for compatibility purposes only. There is no difference in RC between 2.1/2.2 aside from that.As Scott said in another thread, v3's a whole new animal. We've been at it so long I don't even remember v2.1 (shame on me!). v3's good enough, if I were to re-visit 2.1 I'm sure I'd react "What the H is this!? No way! Where's this/that?!". v4/v5/v6'll be the same way. That said, there'll be something missing in v3 John and I did intend on including. VFR. Sorry folks, we might as well spill it now. VFR done correctly will call for an additonal 6mos of building/testing. We appologize for this as we did indicate VFR'd be in v3. We're well aware of how important VFR is to some. With that in mind we tried a "VFR Light" design. I was poor at best. We won't do that to you. It's out. When we do VFR (it's high priority since it missed this boat), it'll be right and very versatile. Very versatile! Count on that. If VFR is what you were waiting for and counting on come v3, don't buy it. We're in the first stages of final beta for the code. That's encouraging. Then the package gets put together as a sellable product on CD. Pages. Maticulous attention to detail throughout. It all take time. Appreciate your patience!Doug
September 5, 200223 yr >That said, there'll be something missing in v3 John and I >did intend on including. VFR. Sorry folks, we might as well >spill it now.Well, at least FS2002 ATC doesn't exactly ruin my VFR flights like they do my IFR ones. Basically, in VFR I make good use of taxi instructions, get my take-off clearance, reply to trafic alerts, and obtain the occasional clearance for restricted air space (which I always get.) Mostly, I don't bother them and they don't bother me.I usually try to fly realistic approaches as published on Jeppesen charts, but I don't ask for landing clearance until I'm on final. While not exactly realistic, at least I won't be yelled at for doing what I believe to be more realistic than what they'd typically tell me to do.So if leaving out VFR can expedite the release of RC3, I think you made a wise decision.
September 6, 200223 yr No VFR?! Very disappointing. I have not owned RC before; rather, used Proflight for FS2000, VFR capable (and in FS2002 if you don't mind the manual version fix). I was anxiously awaiting RC V.3 for VFR landing guidance. Most of the airports I fly into have no ILS capabilities, or only on one runway. How about a compromise - release V.3 w/o VFR, take the 6 months or so for it's development, and release a point upgrade? With at least a committment to including this feature as a "high priority," I see no reason to change my plans to buy V.3. How about it?
September 6, 200223 yr VFR is at least another 6 months to a year of development and testing and will not be a point upgrade.
September 6, 200223 yr Commercial Member the reason we yanked vfr is that it was too much, to do it right, in the short amount of time we have. we started implementing vfr flight following, but i was writing new code right and left. and every line of code i write, is a line of code that has to be tested, and documented. and that was just for vfr ff.we decided to pull the plug on vfr when we realized it would be late 2003 before we could release. like scott said, to do vfr right, it will be many many months of effort.i knew i would take some flak about it, since it was my decision to pull it, and i've had this flak jacket on for weeks! i guess i can take it off now.as someone mentioned earlier, fs2002 atc does a fair job of vfr, i don't know, i've never tried it. see what you think JD Read my blog
September 6, 200223 yr Author Well,The FS VFR ATC can kill you :)It can land 2 aircrafts at the same time, etc...Anyway, isn
September 6, 200223 yr Commercial Member correction, with version 3, ai traffic is all around you, and i see it and alert you of it, if it is appropriate. as in real life, you may be vectored for traffic, and never see the other aircraft. the controllers sees the whole picture, and may know that two aircraft (that are hundred miles apart) are going to be vectored. they won't wait to the last minute to do it, thus the traffic vectors for traffic that you never see.since ms hasn't given out the details on how to control ai traffic, i won't be able to provide that in this release.
