December 7, 200223 yr I had noticed that if I call one of the FS2K2 menus while ATC message is being spoken, the speed becomes suddenly normal. As, while calling a menu, the engine sound stops, I thought of unchecking the engine sound in the sound settings page, under options, and bingo, ATC speed is normal. This is not a solution, but maybe an interesting observation for jd, Scott and all those working on the problem. For your info, adding /abovenormal to the RC3 start string did provide a very small improvement, but nothing dramatic.J.J.JJ StruyfBraine-L'AlleudBelgiumhttp://jdtllc.com/images/RCsupporter.jpg Jean-Jacques Struyf between EBBR and EBCI
December 7, 200223 yr JJ,It's fairly well known that pausing the sim (which is what happens with opening the menu) increases the voice rate. The reason is that FS temporarily stops using resounces, CPU usage drops, and RC priority increases. Turning off the engine sound doesn't really release resources, since FS is still processing. It may halp a bit, but what's flying without engine sound? ;-)
December 7, 200223 yr Author That's why I called it an observation and not a solution ;) JJ StruyfBraine-L'AlleudBelgiumhttp://jdtllc.com/images/RCsupporter.jpg Jean-Jacques Struyf between EBBR and EBCI
December 7, 200223 yr Moderator Jayjay,As Scott say's the speed-up is because FS is temporarily paused freeing up machine resources for RC. If you have XP you can increase the Priority of RC from Normal to High with no apparent hit on performance on FS2002 and the improvement is remarkable. It may depend on the speed of your machine. I have an Athlon 2000XP, 512Mb RAM and a Ti4600.Open Task Manager, select the Processes tab and highlight RCV3.EXE. Right-click and change Priority from Normal to High. OK the warning message and you're in business. This solution is discussed further in this thread...http://ftp.avsim.com/cgi-bin/dcforum/dcboa...rum=DCForumID31Cheers, Ray (Cheshire, England). December 7, 200223 yr Geof reported that high wasn't enough for him, so setting it to the highest priority worked without a hit on FS. Find the best setting for you.
December 7, 200223 yr Author Manually setting the priority to very high level did indeed solve the problem on my system too.Thanks,J.J.JJ StruyfBraine-L'AlleudBelgiumhttp://jdtllc.com/images/RCsupporter.jpg Jean-Jacques Struyf between EBBR and EBCI
