December 10, 200223 yr Flying into Leadville is a kick. However, the first time I went in there my buddy (who's plane it was and who was flying) had a spot of bother. I didn't think it was a good sign when his nose was starting to bleed and I saw we were at 15,000'. It kind of explained that hard-to-breathe thing. I took the plane down to 12,000 and he did a quick landing. Never flew that one again...don't know why. We stuck to scenic flights to places like Royal Gorge. ;-)
December 10, 200223 yr Maybe I misunderstood, but this was your original question.>When contacting ground for your clearance I have never been told to >contact tower on xxx.xx-just given the taxi clearance (perhaps this >is included as a courtesy for sim pilots?).When I said "Tower" I meant "Local Control" A tower normally has a Clearance Delivery, a Ground Control and a Local Control position. At larger facilitites we even have Ground Metering. These positions are often combined during slow periods, or always combined at slow facilities. Each position should be giving you the frequency of the next position, you should not have to find it on your own. CD should give you Ground, Ground should give you Local, etc;As for phraseology, the AIM is a guideline and not regulatory. The things they suggest are excellent and are used by many pilots. However, over the last 38 years, I have heard it all. :-lolLarryhttp://www.jdtllc.com/images/RCbeta.jpg
