RC and ActiveSky sharing AdvDisplay

Featured Replies

Hi,I am trying to run RC3 (just got it) and the new ActiveSky wxRE (just got it too ;)) together, and I am wondering how I can get the weather info messages (FlightWatch Radio) generated by ActiveSky to stay visible in the AdvDisplay window which is already occupied by RC. The messages disappear right away (RC is probably redrawing), too quick and impossible to read. I must admit that I didnt read the full RC documentation yet, so maybe I am just missing something. There must be a way to use the ActiveSky FlightWatch together with RC3, right ?Thanks,Dirk

there are a number of activesky beta testers that are rc users, i'm sure they can helpi didn't know they used advdisp as well. may have to slow down the rc refresh rate in a future version

Hi John,>there are a number of activesky beta testers that are rc >users, i'm sure they can help I hope so, anyone out there that could help ?>i didn't know they used advdisp as well. Well, ActiveSky doesn't require AdvDisplay (it can write to the FS2K2 ATIS window too), but with RC depending on it the problem arises ...>may have to slow >down the rc refresh rate in a future version I dont think slowing down the refresh rate would be the best idea (how slow would fit all needs ...?), I would think a simple toggle that switches the RC output into the AdvDisplay on and off would be better (and would guarentee compatibility with any possible other FS-AddOns that might want to use AdvDisplay too, it would be a more general approach ...).Hope you can fit that into a smaller update, I dont want to miss the FlightWatch radio feature of ActiveSky. 'Future version' sounds sooo far way ... ;) Happy Holidays to you too,Dirk

There's an option in ActiveSky to turn off the message text. There's really no reason you would need text for weather. As Peter Dowson says: "When I go outside there's no text box to tell me it's raining." ;-)

Hi Scott,>There's an option in ActiveSky to turn off the message text. > There's really no reason you would need text for weather. I'm not talking about the wx messages which are displayed from time to time that you can disable with that option. I mean the FlightWatch radio where you intentionally tune your Com radio to 122.0 and receive the current METAR/TAF for the nearest weather station and for your destination airport ...>As Peter Dowson says: "When I go outside there's no text box >to tell me it's raining." ;-) Yeah, I agree on that ... ;-) But the point here is that RC, due to its exclusive usage of the AdvDisplay window, makes it impossible to use features of other add-ons that depend on text output too. Well, I know the guys at ActiveSky are working on their own voice output for the FlightWatch radio, but for the time being it has to be AdvDisplay - so a toggle for the RC text output would really make sense, and not only for ActiveSky. Just my 2 cents ...Dirk

Dirk,Well, until then, you can request weather through RC and get Inflight and the current weather at your location.

The AdvDisplay also causes extreme flickering with another fine add-on, FSAvionics Garmin 530 & 430. I use the Garmin on every flight but can no longer bring it along when using RCv3 due to interference from AdvDisplay. Neither RC or FSAvionics has a responsibility to work with the other one's product but I sure wish that someone would come up with a solution to this problem. Two excellent products that I take on each and every flight and now that the Dash-8 is out I'm really wanting them to work together.Anyone have an idea on this one. I will also post this on the FSAvionics forum. Thanks,

fsavionics knows about it, and they're working on it.

Here's what I do as a workaround to the problem.Working on tips from others I was able to get around the problem with AdvDisp causing extreme flickering with the FSAvionics Garmin 530 & 430. I simply created a blank window with no gauge and attached the AdvDisp to it. That way I can bring up the window whenever I need to talk with RC controllers. If I already know the key to answer I don't even need to bring up the window. Works great. No more flickering with the Garmins.Regards,
