December 16, 200223 yr Hello Gang!I finally had an opportunity to test Radar Contact version 3 in the midst of all the X-Mas shopping and stuff.I created a flight plan from KDFW to KAUS on an American Eagle ERJ-135. The whole planning and flight preparation process went without a hitch and was actually far much more cleaner tha version 2. When I loaded up the flight and got started, I was having technical problems with my panel in terms of being able to set the X-Ponder code, but because I heard Otto talking back to the controllers, for some reason I assumed that she was handling comms as well (my bad here). I got started and became airborne and it wans't until I heard the Departure controllers get back to me about the X-Ponder that I realized that Otto was not working the comms. After about 10 minutes of fiddling with the panel, I finally realized my mistake and was able to tune the right X-Ponder code and continue flying without F-15's shooting me down over Texas. Here are my observations on how RC3 handled this flight:1. I purposely busted the under 10,000ft, 250kt or under rule.2. I purposely busted the speeds requested by the controllers.3. I flew with the wrong X-Ponder code for about 15 minutes....and yet, RC3 gave me a magnificent score at the end. WHATEVER!!!Also, whenever I press the commands to get Otto to fly the airraft or to handle comms, I get other stuff to happen, like changing views and stuff. I tried to find the commands in the little menu but Otto commands are not there. In addition, every time I pressed "0" for main menu, nothing happened - the menu would not come up.And!!!!! Those ATC voices are pretty horrible, but hey, I can live with this for now.Can anyone provide any help here? Thanks a million!Sincerely,Dennis D. December 16, 200223 yr Commercial Member i don't think we have a critique for flying with the wrong transponder code. we assumed that you will eventually dial it in correctly after the first 30 or 40 warnings you receive.sounds like you have other hotkeys assigned to ctrl-shift-k and ctrl-shift-m. go into the rc options, key assignments, and choose a different key combination for comms and plane assignments. if you changed them from the default, you must have chosen keys that are used by fs to do the things that happened to youif you have xp, read the post on speeding up the slow controllers. if you are not xp, make sure you have the latest sound drivers for your card. December 16, 200223 yr Author Hi JD!Thanks for your feedback! I will try the re-assignment of the keys tonight (didn't think about that). I understand about the X-Ponder code part, however, shouldn't RC be all over me about busting the speeds? In terms of the voices, they are not as slow on my system as others have reported here; they just pause and sound pretty - not nice. Plus, it is hard to understand some of what the controllers are saying sometimes - like the voice comes up a little muffled and you have to think twice about what they just said. The othe thing about the voices is that when a controller speaks, they speak with pauses like: Delta (pause) 175 (pause) turn (pause) heading (pause) 075. The pauses are actually very fast (less than a second), but very noticeable. I know, by reading at the forum, that there's not much you guys can do about the voices at this point, so, I guess I can live with that for now, but if there's something to "enhance" for a future release, is definitely the way these voices sound - just my 2 cents!Other than that, I will continue to test and fly around with RCv3 - it is still a butt kicking product and I like very much the way it handles ATC in general. Thanks again!Sincerely,Dennis D. December 16, 200223 yr >>...they speak with pauses like: Delta (pause) 175 (pause) turn (pause) heading (pause) 075.This sounds exactly like the problem reported by others, maybe you should try the fix anyway & see what happens.
December 16, 200223 yr Author Hey Hermit! Thanks for your reply! Maybe I was just expecting the software to be "pausee". I am definitely looking forward to getting home tonight to try the fix. I will definitely report my findings here in the forum. Thanks for your assistance as well!Sincerely,Dennis D. Mullerthttp://www.aavirtual.com/images/aav48_banner.gif[/img] Sincerely, Dennis D. December 16, 200223 yr Commercial Member there is thread entitled something like "fix slow controller speak - xp only" by me. the steps outlined in it, will get your controllers speech to reasonable rate. seems to be an xp thing JD Read my blog

December 17, 200223 yr Author Hi JD!Well! Apparently, I had been a good student and didn't realize that I had already done the update to the path line as per your recommendations before I used RCv3. Maybe my expectations were just set too high in terms of the voices for RCv3. As I said, I can live with the "not so great voices" for now; the rest of Radar Contact more than makes up for the voices thing. Thanks for your help!Sincerely,Dennis D. December 17, 200223 yr I personally think it has something to with soundblaster live cards. I had this same problem and no matter what I could not change it .I the lastest drivers and all. I did get it to work "better" but not perfect. My Sblive decided to die on me a week ago so I went out and got a new soundcard.I did not want to get another SB but I did :( . I got a Audigy Gamer for $100 and I have not had any pauses at all . Iam also running DirectX 9 RC2. I do not know if that helps or not .I really do think it has something to do with the sound blaster live . The sound blaster live has always been a buggy card. I would uninstall the card reinstall it. Update the drivers once again and turn off any process in XP you are not using.XP and win2k leave alot of unnecessary services on by default. The best place to go to find out which services you can leave off is the tweakxp homepage. http://www.tweakxp.com/tweakxp/of course make sure your anti virus scanner is off as well. I hope this helps you Capt.Richard Dillon (KATL)www.jetstarairlines.comhttp://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/images/wxrebeta.jpghttp://jdtllc.com/images/RCsupporter.jpg"Lets Roll" 9/11 -----------------------Specs AMD 1600 XP MSI KT 266t pro2 512MB DDR 2100Asus GF4 ti 4200 128MBSBliveCh Products Yoke and Pedals(usb)Windows 2000 Serivce Pack 3
