December 4, 200520 yr I ordered my version and will download and read the manual tomorrow. How does v.4 handle ground taxi operations? Will we be told to taxi to rwyxxx via taxiway "A", "B", "C" etc?Can RC v.4 be run on another computer networked to my FS computer? Thanks, and I promise I will read the manual tomorrow. Thanks for a great product!Adam
December 5, 200520 yr mm... can that be done in the future? I'm a bit suprised because the default atc can do it.
December 5, 200520 yr Dick,Respect to "...taxiway Alpha, Bravo, Charlie..." etc, I have my doubts. I'll list it though. And we're getting several requests for an RC version of Progressive Taxi. I doubt we'll ever replicate it as MS does but as Larry writes in the manual, it is possible to use MSFS/ATC in conjunction with RC to achieve this.I guess I'm neanderthal in my thinking Dick (maybe I need to change :) ) but honestly, I've never actually wanted to use the darned thing and am actually trying to steer users away from it. There's far more realistic ways to run the sim.You may already be aware... sites like www.myairplane.com give you airport diagrams, DPs/STARs, approach plates... everything you need. This particular site is USA only but I'm sure there's global site available. All I do is, after placing my aircraft at a departure field having selected some gate or ramp area, I look at the overhead view to see where FS's put me on the ramp. Reference that to the Airport Diagram (#1, to be sure I've chosen the right airport :-hah ), that FS view is closed and not opened again. That's about as realistic as I can make it for myself.
December 5, 200520 yr Hi Doug,Actuall I'm not asking for the progressive taxi, I don't use it with default ATC either. It's really a treat from M$ to those amateurs (along with the visual glide slope) to help them get familiar with this complex "game", but that's not my favor too!Rather, I think the ground controller in the real world will assign you which specific taxiway to be used? and I think jd said this is not modeled in RC 4? Please correct me if I'm wrong.
December 5, 200520 yr Hi Dick,You are quite correct. We are not modeling that in v4. You will simply be told to taxi to rwy *** and then you find your own route. If there is an ai close going to the same runway you will be told to 'follow the speedbird 737' (or whoever it is!)To be honest the MS ai is a mess. Okay they tell you as departing traffic to taxi via taxiway xyz while telling arriving traffic to do the same. Result, you meet head to head! Some very clever af2*.bgl designers have worked very hard to minimise this.Often MS atc tells you to taxi to the ramp via taxiwayNo named taxiway. That's because there are no named taxiways in the af2 file.I know Doug. If RC did it he'd want departing traffic to be routed so as not to conflict with arriving traffic. We'd be annoyed if our instructions caused a conflict. He would have a fit about 'taxi via taxiway'It's a complex problem. Don't be mislead by what MS does. Others may correct me but I think they have a 'shortest route to where you're going and don't worry if you meet another plane head on' algorithm. That's (relatively) easy but we've not really worked on it. If we did it we'd be avoiding running into other planes. That's hard.We don't want to do something that doesn't actually work. All the best,John
