December 13, 200520 yr Hello!First let me start off by saying how impressed I am with RC4 so far. Well Done! Now to my question...Hopefully this will make sense...When using ATC services I like to turn off the pilot responses from the computer so I can respond using my own voice through my headset microphone. (I know it's not speech recognition, but it makes it more real for me to respond to the controller than a virtual pilot). When using the default MSFS ATC there is a brief delay after I respond to ATC and before they acknowledge my transmision. This is with the reply from the pilot's turned of in the ATC menu in MSFS.However, when disabling to pilot wav and auto-reply in RC4 (just like in version 3) there is no lag before the controller responds. This does not give me enough time to say, read back a clearance before the controller has already stated "read back correct."This doesn't happen with the MSFS ATC system. There is plenty of time to read back the clearance or instruction that was issued. So, is there any way to set the ATC response time so that I can respond in my own voice, before the controller responds? If so, what do I need to do? If not, can a set of "silent" wav files be used to accomplish this or can something like this be implemented in a future update to the program. Say a checkbox in the settings area that allow for user voice responses?I'm not talking about speech reconition, just a delay before the controller responds to the pilot when the pilot wavs are not selected? Thanks for any help with this, and once again, great product!Scott :-)ATP/CFII/DA20 Type Rated - Instructor Pilot - USAFA (KAFF), Colorado Springs, CO & at KCOSAOPA #00956593, since 1987Background in Corporate, Airline, and General AviationB.S. December 13, 200520 yr Hi Scott,I suspect there is a bit of a bug here and the best work around, currently, is to set up a 'silent' pilot as you suspected. Here is how to do it. Sorry it's a bit messy. There is a folder called winwood in the main RC4 folder. In it create a folder named 62.In that folder create a .txt file called !Silent Pilot V4.txtIn that file writePilot name: Silent PilotThe folder should just contain that 1 file.I'd attach the file myself but, for some reason, I don't seem to be able to attach files to my messages :-(Now launch RC, click the voices button and make Silent Pilot v4 your pilot.Close the voices dialogue and press the general button.Have Play Pilot wavs selected and Pilot autoreply off.In RC you will not hear any pilot wavs play. Once you have read back your instruction or whatever press the 'ack' key to let RC know you've done it.All the best,John

December 14, 200520 yr OK John,I finally got it to work after some tweaking.I already had numerous folders in the winwood directory including folder '62'.I placed the new "!Silent Pilot V4.txt" file in folder 62 and deleted the other file that was already in there. However, it still didn't work at this point. I set all the settings as you stated, but for some reason I couldn't get the interface menu to work when radar contact was running. What I mean is, I could tune the radio to the correct ATIS frequency and I would hear the Radar Contact controler read the ATIS, but after that nothing else worked. I tuned the next frequency to Clearance Delivery, but when I pressed <1>, nothing would happen. The controller would not read me a clearance. It was like the menu selections were unavailable, even though I could see them in the ADV window. However, if I went back and selected one of the pilots that had WAV files, everything would work just fine. I could use my re-assigned keys to make menu selections. So on a hunch, I set all the keys for RC4 back to their original default values and wala, everthing worked with the interface with both the silent pilot selected or any of the other pilots that have wav files for them. That was strange? I don't know why the silent pilot voice (no WAV files) wouldn't allow me to make menu selections in RC4, with re-assigned keys.Anyways, I am using the default values for key assignments in RC4 and I re-assigned some of those keys in MSFSCOF so there won't be any conflicts. (Don't want any doors opeing in flight when try to talk to ATC ...Yikes :( )I still think it might be nice if the Radar Contact team might consider adding the "Silent Pilot" option as a new "mini-feature update" in the main RC4 interface. After doing your tweak here, it seems to me that it wouldn't be that difficult to integrate that feature change in a future service release for RC4.So, thanks again for your tip! I am able to respond in my own voice now after a controller has issued me a clearance/instruction, and makes this whole virtual ATC seem even more real!Scott :-walksmile ATP/CFII/DA20 Type Rated - Instructor Pilot - USAFA (KAFF), Colorado Springs, CO & at KCOSAOPA #00956593, since 1987Background in Corporate, Airline, and General AviationB.S.
