December 24, 200520 yr I installed RC4 and it ran fine - loaded a CYYJ-CYYC flight planI backed up the data file.I ran the "Rebuild Scenery DB"I then loaded CYYJ-CYYC flight plan and got a runtime 53 - something about "get departure error".I couldn't load any other flightplan either - returned the same error.I created a new flight plan but it returned the same errorI restored the data file and problem solved.Question: What does rebuild senery DB do and why do I need to do it. And why am I getting Runtime 53 error after running it?Thanks
December 24, 200520 yr Commercial Member are you using widefs?can you send me the .pln that is causing the problem?rebuild scenery db runs pete dowson's makerwys.exe, which reads all the scenery files, and creates a r4.csv file, which contains all the runways of all of your scenery. then the next step is to create an a4.csv file based on the info in the r4.csv filedo you have any special scenery for cyyj? john burgess will be interested in it.for now, use the default data, and let's sort out what the scenery files are doing to corrupt the databasesjd JD Read my blog
December 24, 200520 yr Hi there,I assume you have tried flightplans starting (and finishing) at airports other than cyyj and cyyc and had the same problem. If so I can't see it being caused by these particular sceneries.Keep your backup data folder safe! Then we need to do things one step at a time.First thing to try would be to run the rebuild scenery db routine again. Do you still get the problem? If so would it be possible to zip up the newly created r4.csv file (from the RC4data folder) and e-mail it to jd (I'm afraid zipped it's probably still over 1 MB).He can then send it to me and I can try and troubleshoot from there. Finally copy the r4.csv and a4.csv files (and only those) from your backup into the rc4data folders overwriting the newly created ones. Is the problem solved? All the best,John
December 24, 200520 yr Author Thanks for the help.I re-ran the "Rebuild Scenery DB" and it works fine now. I think it may have been my fault - I think, but not sure, that I was too quick to shut the program down after it had done the rebuilding and it didn't complete the process. This time I let it go all the way and kept hitting the okay key until done.Maybe in an update, you could have radar contact automatically make a backup (or rename the old file to *.bak) before running the build - just in case.Anyway - it's all fine now and I completed the CYYJ-CYYZ flight with the help of the always helpful and polite controllers.BTW - on a return trip to CYVR, the controllers brought me in on an amazing left-base to Rwy 8L wing-level with the Coast Mountains - amazing approach - especially in the cloud, knowing the mountains are close by. Not that I don't trust the controllers, but I checked that GPS often!
December 24, 200520 yr Glad it 's working now.Sounds like a spectacular approach into CYVR - I think we'd better check the msa we have for that airport ;-)I'll be heading there myself soon - just got the vancouver+ scenery :-)All the best,John
