Disapointed...

Sorry guys , i will probably get some enemies here but i like to be frank. After waiting 10 days + 1 more day (registration) for my copy i amquiet desabused. The worst are these robot voices "american - 2 - 68 - line up and wait - runway - 31 - left " Compared to this FS9 atc sounds like a symphony...Then the adventure window. I don't know where to put it. it always disturb me . Why isn't it transparent like the FS9 atc window ?I thought ok but rcv4 is much more clever than FS9 atc and much morerealistic :I was on the taxiway halfway to rwy 21R at VTBD when rcv4 cleared me to line up and wait after authorising another plane to take off and another one to land on the same runway !!!????Too bad because the rcv4 team looks to be nice people and they probably worked a lot on this product but when you see new products like f2crew this one doesn't look up to date.I will probably wait a few patches before trying it again....Just my 2 cents and I don't want to offence anyone but i am disapointed...

Sanook, the voices in RC4 may sound a little bit "robotic", but the ATC that RC4 offers is so many many many times more realistic than the FS one, that one can surely live with this small incovenience (if you prefer a smoother audio but a lousy and absolutely unrealistic ATC, stay with MSFS one).Regarding apparent (and sometimes real) runway incursions with AI cleared to land on the same rwy you were just cleared to takeoff from, it is surely an area of the program that could be (and surely will be) addressed and improved. I flew some flights to date and I noticed that often the approaching AI plane is cleared to land when I'm cleared for takeoff, this is a more American way to speed up things; in Europe (and I assume in Asia too) this happens very seldom at the majority of airports (in Italy the rule is: no plane on the runway - even if speeding up and almost airborne - if another one is cleared to land). But I also estimated giving a look on TCAS that I was airborne when the landing plane was at about 2 NM on finals, so this is not a problem. I noticed a couple of times that the departing AI ahed of me was cleared for takeoff when the approaching one was well within the marker and once when was at about 1 NM on finals: this should be corrected in a future patch.Anyway, in my opinion, RC4 is so a big leap ahead in realism that those little "bugs" are very minor.Regards.

With respect to the Adventure Display, you can make it very small - about 1inch by 1 inch. I've docked mine to the 2D panel where it looks like a gauge. You actually don't need the window as the key assignments don't change - acknowledge is always 7 and contact is always 1 for example. If I need to see it, I just switch to the 2D panel - but this is rare.It makes it much more real. With the default ATC I got fed up with the transparent window popping up everytime ATC was talking (even to other aircraft) - without the text and just listening, makes it much more real too.

Hi there,No enemies here :-)How did you find the atc provided by rc once airborne? You should not be cleared to line up until you are close to the end of the runway (within about 1000 feet I think). Are you using some addon scenery or af2 file for VTBD?If so, have you rebuilt the scenery db?As far as the voices are concerned have you got a seperate sound card? Some have reported that the sounds play more smoothly with the dx sound acceleration setting changed. start menu run; type dxdiag and ok. The direct x diagnostic tool should appear. Click on the sound tab and you should see the slider. Try various settings and see if it helps. All the best,John

Dont' give up so soon. I was sceptical too, but once I got past that initial 'will give call' shock, RC4 grows on me every day.Try to experiment with the voice selection. You'll notice there are voice sets, that sound more fluid than others and more fit your 'ear taste'. After a few flights discovering all the features, the voices itself might get more and more in the background.I agree, there could be some more distance for the AI on landing, but I never had any AI planes run into me, so that's really a noticeable progress. If I'm number 6 in the queue at a big airport, I appreciate ATC speeds up things a bit. Better than have the AI guy in front of you magically disappear.Although the abbreviation suggests different, the AI is not the most intelligent out there, so it's probably quite difficult to tame.Occasionally there are problems at medium airports with a long taxiway to the runway, that's used for both taxi-in and taxi-out. Not in real life, but in FS, because the AI guys have a three-wire braking performance and exit the runway too soon. It's probably impossible for RC4 to tell them to stop/resume taxiing that well in advance. So it's always good to get a picture of the whole situation before you start taxiing. However, I can't imagine to make any flight without RC4 now.Mike

Hi Mike,>Although the abbreviation suggests different, the AI is not>the most intelligent out there, so it's probably quite>difficult to tame.>Amen to that. I always say MS got it 50% right: artificial, yes; intelligent, no :-lolWe did tweak all this quite a bit to try and give you a reasonable chance of getting takeoff clearance at a busy runway. Feedback in this area is appreciated - especially if anyone actually ends up with tyre marks on the roof of their plane! All the best,John

Hi John, maybe setting a "no-trespassing" distance of, say, 2 to 3 NM for the landing AI plane with respect to the AI (or user) departing aircraft could be nice (but I don't know how you can do this in RC)...And yes, I like to be hurried up a little when in the queue ! (didn't notice if RC twr will tell you "able for immediate takeoff", that is without any delay; this should also be a nice addition if not already present).

I have flown dozens of flights since I installed RC4 and have never had an AI aircraft give me an problem as I was taking off or landing. I have been behind some pretty long takeoff lines at large airports during busy traffic times, but that is produced by Ultimate Traffic, and it makes it pretty realistic in my opinion. (I have Ultimate Traffic and 100% AI traffic in FS9.) In most large major airports in the US, it is common for the tower to clear an aircraft for landing ( 5 miles out) while another aircraft is cleared for takeoff. As mentioned above, it tells you in the manual to resize the window to 1" by 1" and after you get used to the program, I use a hot key to make the window disappear all together unless I need it for menu selection. Just to acknowledge transmissions and instruction , you just have to hit the 1 key, so you don't really need to see the window. The voice selection is important for fluidity since some voices are better than others, and after a flight or too, it becomes and non-issue for the vast majority of people using the program, as posted in different forums. As far as the ATC goes, the FS9 ATC is a joke compared to the ATC in RC4. I would rather fly RC4 ATC than Vatsim, and Vatsim is leaps and bounds better than FS9 ATC. Just give the program a chance, fly a couple of tutorials to learn about it, and you will never fly without it....
