January 5, 200620 yr hello all..I'm AFCAD2 editing illiterate and was wondering..how hard is it to just go into any AFCAD and ensure that multiple runways are in use? I want to keep the realistic parking of some AFCADs that i've d/l but they dont utilize the multiple runways..which is so cool with RC4!Thanks!
January 6, 200620 yr Hi There,RC will generally choose whichever runway the ai are using (or just pick the first one it finds ai using if several are active). You can, however, request any runway you want from RC. You will be granted it but it has no effect on which runway the ai are using. No changes to the afcad files are necessary. The method for editing an afcad file to enable multiple runways is complicated and not recommended if you aren't very familiar with the program.Details of the technique are found here:http://afcad.projectai.com/documents/xrunw...20Operation.htmAll the best,John

Airports with multiple parallel runways such as KLAX, KATL and FS9 is able to distribute departures/arrivals across those runways. This is a capability that is built-in to FS9 and via the AFCAD program you can manage how these runways are used. There are some "rules" however that must be followed - and your best bet would be to search the Project AI AFCAD forum to learn more.2. Airports that have non-parallel and perhaps crossing runways (e.g., KORD) where special 'workaround techniques' (referred to as the STAR technique) make it possible to "fool" FS9 and it then employs all the runways for operations. Again, your best bet is to check the Project AI AFCAD forum for details and to find out where to find these types of airport files.By your last statement, I believe you are refering to the STAR technique, because the standard airport files do not utilize multiple runways. -michael
January 6, 200620 yr Thanks for the replys. Let me ask this..what effect does opening up all the runways say at KLAX in AFCAD2. So nothing is checked in the boxes...does this mean FS AI will land on all 4 rwys if necessary? My main goal is to just have AI landing on all available rwys at a place like ORD like mentioned..ill look into it..maybee just get a AFCAD from avsim even if its not 100% realistic parking.thx
January 6, 200620 yr Hi there,If you uncheck all the runways FS will decide which runway it wants to use. If memory serves correctly FS will also land and depart aircraft from runways whose direction is within about 8 degrees of the selected one.So parallel runways should all be activated at places like KLAX just by unchecking the boxes. All the best,John
January 6, 200620 yr thx for the help. I knows it been said before..but this program is simply AMAZING. Sure a few minor little things that can be worked out with Ground..but man what a great product..keep up the good work!!
July 28, 201114 yr The links to projectai.com are no longer valid. The developer of the STAR technique has a tutorial here;http://www.scruffyduck.org.uk/filemanager/navega.php?PHPSESSID=9deef8c87198ec57386fa96579e5e046&dir=.%2FTutorials%2FAirport%20Design This new and updated tutorial is based on the freeware ADE9X where some of the functions have been automated. Try the basic technique first. In addition, new material has been added for complex airports. You can adapt the techniques to AFCAD but for some newer sceneries AFCAD may strip out data so it might ber best to try ADE9X. FSX and FS9 versions, manuals, and tutorials are available here: http://www.scruffyduck.org.uk/filemanager/navega.php?id=2&PHPSESSID=9deef8c87198ec57386fa96579e5e046
