Please help me understand IFR Altitude rules

Featured Replies

I am not talking Radar Contact. In real IFR, I am totally lost with what altitude that I should maintain under various circumstances. I am overloaded with information (it feels like they are conflicting rules).could anyone simply this? :)Here is an example:Say.. I filed a "DP.Transition" from Arlington Muni, TX (near DFW) to Houston hobby Texas. ---------------------------------------------------From: KGKYDP.Transition - V111 - VOR1 - V222 - DirectTo:KHOUFlight Altitude = 7000--------------------------------------------------The DP has the route to the Transition and it has specific alititude.-------------------------------------------------I get the clearence As Filed. Maintain Rwy Heading, climb to 2000 expect 3000 in 10. (Say this altitude is different from the DP).Now what do I do?I fly the runway heading...and climb to 2000 expecting vectors.. (even though they have cleared me for the DP).1. They could say... Change frequency to xxxx.x resume Own Navigation. Now what do I do?What should be my altitude?
