January 30, 200620 yr I just installed RC4 and I love it but I am not sure of the correct proceedure. For example. Made a flight (Twice today ) from Lihue, Hawaii (PHLI) to Kahuli, Hawaii (PHOG). I used FS Build and RC4. The ATC had me departing on R35 and I remained on this heading for 46 miles, even thought the 1st way point was only about 5 miles SOUTH of the departing airport. Then approaching PHOG, at a distance of about 5 miles The ATC still had me at about 4,000 feet The airport is at sea level. Everybody lost their lunch on that approach. So the question is, with the 1st way point SO close to the departure runway, should I have made a turn (about 150 degrees) and picked up the 1st way point on my OWN , instead of WAITING for the ATC to let me make a 92 mile round trip to the 1st waypoint? This happened twice, so I guess that it was NOT a computer "burk". This is NOT the first time this problem has happened, trying to pick up the 1st way point, trying to follow the ATC to the "letter". What do you guys do? Thanks, jerrycwo4
January 30, 200620 yr Commercial Member page 45 of the manualIf you have filed a Departure Procedure (either in the flight plan or through the Departure Procedure checkbox on the Controller Info screen), or have enabled NOTAMs, you will not be assigned any sort of heading after take-off.You are responsible for flying the DP. If the DP calls for a 45 degree heading change after reaching 1000 feet, do it. If it calls for straight out for the first 15 nm, do it. If the DP calls for unusual altitude constraints, adhere. Departure Procedures, NOTAMs and more are covered in detail in the Tutorial Flights and User Interface sections. However, if you have not filed a DP or enabled NOTAMs, Tower will assign you an initial heading. That can be runway heading, up to 30 degrees off the runway heading, or a heading change after reaching a certain altitude. Listen and adhere to the instructions.page 109By definition, Departure Procedures (DPs) are published routes, with or without altitude restrictions, flown after takeoff. DP lengths vary depending on your departure airport. They might end at a point from 30 miles away, they might end at a point 100 miles away. This essentially is the first part of your flight plan, which guides you away from the airport. The purpose(s) of DPs include noise abatement, routing around restricted or prohibited areas, moving heavy volumes of departing traffic away from populated areas, transitions to common fixes for enroute, etc.Beyond filing a realistic route with appropriate procedures, there is a further purpose to filing a DP in RC. You wish to takeoff, but rather than be vectored towards your first checkpoint, you prefer to join an outbound radial from a VOR (in other words, pick up an airway). DPs allow for this.First, determine whether you want to fly a Departure Procedure. In effect, this means that RC JD Read my blog
January 31, 200620 yr Thanks jd, I know that took a lot of time but it sure answered my question! I'm hoping that it helped some other new people at the same time. The ATC said just what you said about the DP, but I'm sorry that I didn't have a clue in just what he was talking about. I took the same flight again (for the 3rd) time and I banked around at about 1500 feet and picked up my 1st waypoint in about 2 miles. It worked great this time. jerrycwo4
January 31, 200620 yr Sorry to butt in, but is there any chance of being able to un-check the "Use DP" box in the controller settings? If I file a flightplan with a waypoint within 30nm RC4 automatically selects the DP box and I can /Tord Hoppe, Sweden
January 31, 200620 yr Commercial Member what i usually do, is have two .pln files. kjfkkord-dp.pln and kjfkkord.plnload the one you want to fly.jd JD Read my blog
February 3, 200620 yr Is there a way to be vectored by the ATC with a first fix beeing less then 30nm distance?
February 3, 200620 yr Commercial Member no. why is the first checkpoint less than 30 miles from the departure airport? JD Read my blog
February 3, 200620 yr Well , the first waypoint would be a VOR that is 29nm from the airportYou guys could put an option on 4.1 to be vectored on departure just an idea
