March 17, 200719 yr Moderator Hi Bill,You hear comms with other aircraft when you are on the same frequency as them. Sorry if that sounds like the "bleedin' obvious". When you request clearance you will hear other aircraft request clearance; when you request push and start then you'll hear other aircraft request the same. Same goes for Tower, Departure, various centres enroute, arrival, tower etc.When enroute you will only hear comms with other aircraft if they are in the same stratum as you. For example, if you're at FL350 you won't hear comms for those 15,000ft lower.Hope that helps. Ray (Cheshire, England).
