April 14, 200719 yr I don't really understand what FSUIPC is and why I need it to make this program work, but I was trying to follow the instructions to install RC onto my computer. I just purchased it and got the 4.2 version in the mail today. I am running FSX only with Vista. The instructions mention that I need to download the latest version of FSUIPC to get this to work. However when I go to the link to get this program, it tells me that I now also need WideFS as well. Well I downloaded that, and in the instructions it very plainly states that I need to purchase this program as well. Why do I need WideFS, or FSUIPC for that matter?Do I need to purchase these to make RC work with FSX?If so, I would like to return my product and get a refund. Thanks,Chad
April 14, 200719 yr Commercial Member you don't have to purchase anything.rc provides the necessary credentials to both fsuipc 3.x and 4.x for rc to use the fsuipc servicesyou don't need widefs unless you plan to run rc on one machine, and fs on another machine.you can get fsuipc 4.x (for fsx) from http://www.schiratti.com/files/dowson/FSUI...imestamp=020307and fsuipc 3.x (for fs9) from http://www.schiratti.com/files/dowson/FSUI...imestamp=010307you don't need to buy them, to download them.if you want to use all the cool features of fsuipc, then you need to purchase a license to use them.but you do not need to buy anything other than rc.jd JD Read my blog
April 14, 200719 yr Moderator >I don't really understand what FSUIPC is ...Hi Chad,FSUIPC is a small program that runs inside FS and provides an interface to many external programs such as RC4, ActiveSky (weather) and many others too numerous to list here. FSUIPC is the reason external programs can 'talk' to FS. Without it there would be no 3rd party software. How boring would that be?There are two versions of FSUIPC. The 'free' one which anyone can use and a payware one which allows you to calibrate joysticks more accurately, assign buttons to FS commands not available within the FS menu and many other benefits. The freeware one, as JD say's, is supplied with RC4.FSUIPC is often updated so you should visit the site JD mentioned and check for updates. These are always free until a new version is released (usually when a new version of FS is released).Third party software developers such as JDTLLC (Radar Contact) pay a fee to Pete Dowson (the FSUIPC author) allowing them to use it for their software.WideFS as JD say's is only needed if you network two or more computers. It emulates FS on PCs that don't actually have it installed and allows 3rd party programs such as RC to run. The benefits of this are that maximum resources are available to FS on the flying PC.Hope that helps. Ray (Cheshire, England). April 17, 200719 yr Chad, although you don't need to purchase the registered version of it to make the addons work, the registered version does give you some nice features. I use it to map button, slider and other controls on my yoke to keyboard pushes because I don't want to be looking around the keyboard during aircraft manuevers. Things like flap, landing gear and push to talk (Squawkbox) are very nicely handled on my yoke controls. You can also program hot keys. One of the most useful is resynchronizing the engines. They will, on rare ocassions, get out of synch, and a simple key press will re-synch them for you. It beats trying to push the "E" key followed quickly by the "1", "2", etc.., keys when you are landing and trying to engage thrust reversers.
