October 1, 200718 yr Any advice on a compatable TCAS program that works with RC and UT.Thanks in AdvanceErik
October 2, 200718 yr Moderator Hi Erik,Search the AvSim library FS2004 Gauges section using TCAS as a search word. I revealed several freeware gauges any of which will work fine with FS and RC.Cheers, Ray (Cheshire, England). October 2, 200718 yr Moderator Then currently you're out of luck :( Keep checking the FSX Gauge section for TCAS gauges. I'm not sure if a FS9 one would work but you could try it.Cheers, Ray (Cheshire, England). October 3, 200718 yr Moderator Hi Erik,It's possible I've misunderstood your question regarding TCAS alerts in RC4.If you simply wanted a way of viewing possible conflicts on a suitable gauge then my original reply stands. However, if you wanted to use a TCAS gauge to change your altitude or heading where a conflict was reported you should be aware that any deviation on altitude or heading without permission from the controller will result in a telling-off.There are plans to incorporate TCAS changes into v5 but that is still over a year away.I hope that clears up any misunderstanding. October 3, 200718 yr Yea I was just looking for a TCAS program that is made to for FSX that works with RC. Just bascially gives you alerts to decend or etc. Any Ideas, or other program suggestions? Thanks
October 3, 200718 yr Moderator As I said earlier you must not deviate from your current altitude or heading because a TCAS gauge tells you of a conflict. RC will tell you off if you do.Forget the TCAS option. It's not compatible with RC4. Ray (Cheshire, England). October 3, 200718 yr Moderator Radar Altimeters usually only work up to 2,500ft or thereabouts. I don't see how it could help you.Try searching the AvSim library but I don't see what you're trying to achieve.:-hmmmCheers, Ray (Cheshire, England). October 3, 200718 yr I was just looking for another add on to FSX. Any suggestions? Don't know if you can beat RC though.
October 3, 200718 yr Moderator There are all sorts of addons for FSX. Without knowing more about what you're looking for I'm not sure I can help. Are you aware of the AvSim Library and the Weekly, Monthly and Year's Hot Files? There are all sorts to choose from as well as payware addons from simflight.com and other commercial providers.Cheers, Ray (Cheshire, England). October 4, 200718 yr I put a TCAS gauge in the default B737 in FS9, and I can confirm that this is exactly what happens. RC does not like seeing me descend from my assigned altitude! Fortunately, a) it does not happen very often, because I understand that RC slews the AI out of my way in-flight, and :( I'm usually able to return to my assigned altitude before I get too annoyed at RC yelling at me. Then, at the end of the flight, I try to remember not to choose Flight Critique, because my self-esteem is very fragile and I don't need another ribbing!
October 5, 200718 yr Here's some "give and take":In the General options tab you can increase the acceptable range for variance of altitude and heading. The problem is that you lose the benefit of RC ATC warnings within that window.Decide how much room you need for your TCAS advisory compliance and set it to the minimums necessary to preserve some realism. Remember if you widen your altitude window be very careful of terrain avoidance especially in departure and approach since RC will be less critical of your altitude compliance.I think that might give you some satisfaction. For just arrival and departure phase TCAS advisory compliance you can leave the settings as they are and just use the NOTAMS feature to mute the ATC compliance warnings, however this might cause other problems such as getting lost on approach if you ignore vectoring. NOTAMS places ATC in an advisory capacity for either or both airport procedures in your plan.
