RC4, Autosave.dll, and Reconnect

Featured Replies

Hello All!On occasion, like most of us, I have a CTD with FS9. Fortunately, with Pete Dowson's autosave.dll and the right aircraft, i.e., the PMDG 747, you can restart FS9 and continue where you left off.Unfortunately though, if flying with RC4, while it will re-acknowledge existence of my flight after the restart and continue where it left off, I'm unable to respond back to RC. That is, if for some reason I wish to request a different altitude, the keystroke command is not recognized. Is there some way to make RC recognize keystrokes/commands that I wish to advise it of when such situations occur? Thanks.Ed Lin, D.O.S.

Hi Ed,You should be able to reload a saved flight into RC and continue where you left off. This is how we save flights when beta testing so JD can refly from that saved position and reproduce the bug.Load FS and load the last autosave flight. Don't pause FS. Then start RC4 and load that same flight into RC. It sounds a little odd but it ensures RC and FS are in harmony. That should ensure you're able to continue the flight and communicate with RC.Hope that helps.

Ray thanks......but I'm familiar with this process. In the scenario in which I speak, FS may have CTD'd while I'm away from the pc with the popup with the checkmark allowing one to "restart FS9". By then, it's way too late to save in RC.I'm sorry, I should also have mentioned that I'm in a WideFS config. RC is still running, I restart FS and select my autosaved flight. RC recognizes the flight and can continue to give me commands. The problem in this scenario is that I'm unable to respond back with keystrokes. In other words, I can follow RC and the flight down to a successful landing as long as I've also had Otto at the controls before the CTD. However, if I want to change altitude, advise of a missed approach, etc., I'm out of luck!Ed Lin, D.O.S.:-(

Hi Ed,This is strange because it's exactly how I run RC using manual acking and tuning.Perhaps a log to JD would help. v4 was tested extensively and has been out for some time so a new bug would be strange but not impossible. You say you restart FS but don't say whether you restart RC. Doing that is essential in order to get them 'talking' again including RC accepting keystrokes.Cheers,

Hello again...No, I don't restart RC as it would then mean starting the whole flight again from takeoff. As RC is already running on the wideFS machine, it picks up from where I left off and all is well once I restart the autosaved flight. It's just that I can't communicate with RC.Perhaps a log file is in order here. I appreciate your response.Ed Lin, D.O.S.

Hi Ed,<>No it won't :-) When you choose to load a flight plan instead of picking the one that starts at the departure airport choose the last AutoSave one. When those are saved they also incude aircraft status, weather etc so you can just continue your flight from that position. If you do that I can guarantee you will be able to communicate with RC.Cheers,

Hey Ray,A little misunderstanding here -- I do pick the autosaved flight from flight simulator and it does load with aircraft status, weather, etc. and I'm able to continue my flight from that position.RC then picks up from where it left off as well giving me commands, etc. I just can't send keystrokes to it if I want to make a request.

Hi Ed,In that case may I suggest you create a log prior to loading that flight and once you can repeoduce the problem send the log to JD and with a bit of luck he'll tell you the reason for the problem.Sorry I got the wrong end of the stick.

wouldn't the first order of business be to solve the crashes?everytime autosave saves a .flt and .wx file, rc will pick that up and save the .rcd file for itmaybe, it is the plane.after you tried flying a ms stock plane (omg), and waiting for a crashthen load the .rcd and see what happens?follow the directions at the top of the forum, and make a .logbe sure to click debug before you load the .plnthen fly the flight until you crashthen send me the last .flt, .wx, .rcd and .pln filesthen follow the directions again on creating a .logload the .rcd and continue your flight for a couple of times, using a couple of keystrokes that you say aren't working.then send me the first log, .flt, .wx, .rcd, plnthen send the second logi'll see if i can see anything going on.looking forward to it...jd

Hey JD!!Ahhh...the true mind of a good troubleshooter. Yes, I'm trying to figure out the cause of recent OOM's first before looking into the RC issue. I'm thinking it's page file related. I've tripled my page file and just completed successfully an overnight from Honolulu to Denver. My fingers are crossed.Nonetheless, this RC issue has been with me since I can remember. I can easily cause it to fail and send you a log file, possibly over the next couple of days. All I need to do is start a flight, close flight simulator, and go back in with the autosaved flight and voila! My gut tells me it's an "as designed" matter, but we'll see.Hope your Thanksgiving went well.
