Would Appreciate Help Networking FSX and RC - Docs non-existent !

Featured Replies

Hi All,The latest documentation provided by Radar Contact is 4.0.It mentions Adventure Display - which in FSX does not exist.Basically, without whining about how disgraceful I think it is that there is no up to date documentation, I would like simply to:......run RC on a client PC......have the resizable RC dialogue panel on the client monitor,......and possibly....use the client PC's keyboard to input data/numbers etc.Can someone please direct me to a tutorial which explains how to do this. All the tutorials I can find only relate to FS9....this is useless for FSX as FSX uses Simconnect - a different fish entirely.Active Sky and Flight Sim commander both provide excellent and detailed documentation as to how to achieve this and so I am dismayed that for what is my favourite addon for FSX (ie RC) doesn't !The additional pain, is that at some point I need to request a new code....and given that I don't even know which PC to install it on....requesting new codes will soon become a royal pain - but that's another story eh ? !I would really appreciate some help from peeps in the know.

Hi,In your message you don't say whether you have bought WideFS from Pete Dowson. If you have then that product includes full documentation on how to get one or more PCs (clients) to 'talk' to the FS PC (server). Once you have that working installing Radar Contact on either the server or client PC requires no knowledge other than pointing it to the location of the FS9.EXE or FSX.EXE and the folder containing your flight plans. You'll neeed to share those folders on a network but XP/Vista includes all the help you need for that simple task.<>RCv4 does not use SimConnect. It still uses FSUIPC. A new version for FSX is available here http://secure.simmarket.com/product_info.p...roducts_id=2068 if you wish to have a registered version - recommended but not mandatory. The FS9 tutorial flights can be used in FSX. No need for different versions.<>You can request a new code for RC on the server PC once you have WideFS running. That won't be a problem even if you already have a code for your FS PC.

>Hi All,>>The latest documentation provided by Radar Contact is 4.0.radar contact 4.0, 4.01, 4.2, 4.3 - is the same. the program, the menus, the options, the features, the procedures, etc.>>It mentions Adventure Display - which in FSX does not exist.i am currently editing out every mention of the word adventure display, or advdisp. but in the end, it is the menu, and menu options that are important, not the name of the window, or the dll that is putting the menu on the screen.but some people are confused by it, so i will spend my morning editing out every reference to adventure display and advdisp so there will never be any more confusion.while i'm at it, you're not expecting every fs9 screen shot to be replace by a fsx screen shot are you? you don't think i have to have a fs9 manual and a fsx manual do you? i hope not. i won't be re-screenshotting all the fs9 images.>>Basically, without whining about how disgraceful I think it is>that there is no up to date documentation, I would like simply>to:>>......run RC on a client PC>>......have the resizable RC dialogue panel on the client>monitor,>>......and possibly....use the client PC's keyboard to input>data/numbers etc.>>Can someone please direct me to a tutorial which explains how>to do this.wouldn't this information be in the widefs/wideserver zip files?>>All the tutorials I can find only relate to FS9....this is>useless for FSX as FSX uses Simconnect - a different fish>entirely.you're trying to make this more complicated than it is. the tutorials are the same for fs9 and/or fsx. simconnect doesn't EVEN enter into this discussion. >>Active Sky and Flight Sim commander both provide excellent and>detailed documentation as to how to achieve this and so I am>dismayed that for what is my favourite addon for FSX (ie RC)>doesn't !since you have this set up for active sky and flight sim commander already, the section of the manual, written by john burgess, tells you how to make rc work in a network environment.i don't think it is up to us to tell you how to set up your network, or make widefs and wideserver work.>>The additional pain, is that at some point I need to request a>new code....and given that I don't even know which PC to>install it on....requesting new codes will soon become a royal>pain - but that's another story eh ? !how is this a pain? once you have your new pc setup, you send in for another key, and a key is sent back to you within an hour.same thing would be true if you got a new pc to run rc and fs, you'd still need a new key>>I would really appreciate some help from peeps in the know.

Thanks for that guys.Just setting up things now.My network runs fine in XP. Doing a complete reinstall of FSX and will be attempting to setup WideFS in the next dy or so.Will let you know how I get on.Thnx
