  1. I've been using a PFC Cirrus Saab Yoke (similar to this one: https://flypfc.com/shop/yokes/desktop-yokes/cirrus-beech-desktop-yoke/) since January 2016, a little over 8 years. It has Hall Effect sensors, so it still works very well. I use RC4 for ATC. I can't remember when I bought it, but it was in CD form in a jewel case. I do have an e-mail record of upgrading to v4.3 in 2010 and getting help from John Dekker himself.

As for other hardware, I have a bunch of now-archaic joysticks, yokes, and throttles, most with serial connectors (remember them?). For software, there really isn't anything other than RC4 that I use; I have a CD full of archived FSX aircraft and utilities, which I'll probably never use again.

  2. Yes, AirSource will give you that leeway. By the way, I've been a member since 2012.

I just did a search for YPPH to YPXM, and it yielded a Virgin Australia A320 flight. Even though it's listed as a Virgin Australia flight, you can choose whatever airline you want.

Also, AirSource allows you to match aircraft types, so you can even fly routes with aircraft that are not the scheduled aircraft for that route. The only proviso is that the aircraft substitute has to be the same type. For instance, an A320, according to AirSource's aircraft database, has the type "DEJL" (for dual engine jet light). There are 96 other aircraft in this class, including the Boeing 737 series (including the Max 8), the MD-80 series (MD-80 to -90), and so on.

So ... if you wanted to fly YPPH to YPXM using an A320, or an MD-83, or a 737-800, etc., under any livery, really, you could.

    Hope that helps.

Can anyone explain how you applied this update? All I get from the download is a rar file with no way to open it. What did you do with it to apply the update?

Good question. I could see the contents of the rar file: individual files in folders, but no sense of where they should go.

Also, I don't really "get" this thread, as to why the switching off of "Dynamic Texture Streaming" is being presented as if it's new discovery or something akin to one

I think that those of us long-term P3D users switched on "Dynamic Texture Streaming" long ago and have just kinda forgotten about it. That's certainly the case for me.

I'm pleasantly surprised that turning it off has had great results for me.

  5. You might want to open a support ticket through PMDG. Also, when I've had this issue, I've run the OP updater, found here: C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\PMDG\PMDG Operations Center. Run OpsCenterUpdater.exe.

Also also, you may need to reinstall everything, unfortunately.

  6. Thanks for the tip! I've just toggled mine off after having it on for ages. I recently bought a 3060 video card with 12 gigs of VRAM, so I'm not too worried about running out. I do notice that toggling off Dynamic Texture Streaming does in fact result in higher VRAM usage, but I still have lots left, so no worries there.

I notice that textures seem to be more stable (less fluctuation in texturing) and P3D v5.4 does seem smoother. I also think that the textures look sharper ... but I may just be imagining that.

  7. I've been using Microsoft Defender for years with no issues.

My P3D PC is used mostly just for P3D, almost nothing else (except, perhaps, for a little simming with XP12). I've never downloaded or used any pirated software (games or otherwise), and I'm very very careful with e-mail and attachments, so I figure my risk levels are very, very low.

    Of course, YMMV.

  8. Interesting to see that some of us are still not only using P3D (both v5.x and 6.x) but also buying aircraft and scenery.

I recently bought the Maddog expansions (MD-83 and -88) as well as the Captainsim 767 base and freighter (during the Christmas sale). I haven't bought much scenery, though, as I already have a large number of airports as well as ORBX scenery areas.

I'm still very satisfied with P3D v5.4. I'm still happily flying around on the FSLabs A319/320/321 series, as well as the iFly 737 Max, TFDi 717, and Maddog aircraft. I do have XP12 and MSFS, but rarely use either. Old habits die hard, I guess.

The only bugs we get are common flies.

We get flies, bees, wasps (lots this summer!), and other flying insects, so screens are a necessity for most people.

No laughing here for USB desk fans: my daughter has one, as well as a handheld fan that she uses regularly. I agree: they are really useful and do help.

I guess your houses are built like ours in the British Isles, to retain heat.

Correct. Until recently (the last five years or so), it's rarely been hot enough for a long enough time to require air conditioning. Retrofitting my house for central air conditioning would be exorbitantly expensive, so we make do with fans and open doors and windows that have bug screens.

Im guessing most houses don’t have AC?

As someone else mentioned, it does get pretty hot over the summer in the interior of BC. During the heat dome of 2021, the temperature in Lytton, BC reached 49.6°C/121.3°F.

That said, you're correct: most houses don't have AC. According to Statistics Canada, as of 2021, only 36% of British Columbian households have any type of air conditioning. I live in Surrey, BC, part of Metropolitan Vancouver, and I don't have air conditioning in my house, which is 20 years old. I don't think any of my neighbours have air conditioning, either.

    EZdoc camera for msfs2020

This is the Prepar3d Forum, so it's unlikely many MSFS users will see your post. I suggest you post in a MSFS-specific forum--or perhaps a mod could move it to one?

  13. With the abandonment of developers concerning add-ons for P3D v6 (which I won't buy), I decided to try X-Plane 12. I'm a Canadian, too, and I bought XP12 through Steam because of the sale.

I've only bought one add-on so far, X-Camera (quite similar to ChasePlane!), and it works fine in the Steam version of XP12. I've also downloaded some free scenery, and again, no issues.

I'm planning on buying some aircraft eventually--for example, the FlyJSim Q4SP looks excellent--so I may have more to say, but all indications are that there is no real difference between XP12 and Steam XP12.

Why aren't people using OpusFSX these days? they had a camera system too (with the shakey camera feel too).

I used OpusFSX (now OpusFSI) in FSX (IIRC) and ultimately moved on to EZCA and then ChasePlane in P3D. Does OpusFSI work in v5.4? I've checked the Opus website, but it simply mentions "v4+" as a requirement for OpusFSI v6
