  1. Hi, Robert.Wow, I thought that I was the only one affected! It's good to know it wasn't just me or something that I did wrong.Anyway, you just might want to try Safe Mode. It's easy to boot into Safe Mode, and once you're in, just navigate as usual to where the patch is located, run it as usual, and everything should work. If you would like some more help, please let me know via e-mail: joel_murray@shaw.ca.Cheers!Joel
  2. Well, to answer my own question, the update files are not corrupt.I tried installing the update after booting into Windows XP safe mode. The update installed fine, so obviously the problem is somewhere on my end. Sigh. At least I have an updated 737NG. :-)All's well that ... you know the rest.Joel
  3. When I downloaded and ran SU 1.1 today, my computer immediately crashed all the way to a re-boot. I've downloaded both SU 1.1 and SU 1.1 Mini, but it doesn't seem to matter; they both cause a re-boot.Is it possible that the Service Update files have somehow become corrupted? I downloaded other software from other sites to test whether it was my computer, but all downloaded and installed with no problems. For what it's worth, I have an Windows XP Pro, an AMD Athlon XP 2400+, 512 MB of RAM, a Geforce FX5200 with 128 MB of RAM, an 80 GB hard drive not anywhere near full ...Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.Joel
  4. >Both of these guys are now e-mailing me claiming that they>don't understand that what they did was wrong. Am I nuts or>is it simple...if you cut and paste someone else's work, then>you're stealing someone else's work. Right? If someone else>put time, thought, and effort into creating something, then>isn't it their own intellectual property whether it has a sign>on it saying "Intellectual Property" or not? Right? Am I>going nuts here? No, you're not going nuts. You're right: if you create something, it is your intellectual property. You don't need to indicate it. Unfortunately, though, with the Internet and computers in general making it so easy nowadays to cut and paste, people are slowly losing respect for the work of others and are passing parts of if not the entire amount of other people's work as their own.I'm a college professor--I teach English (academic reading and writing skills, mostly)--and I see this problem every single term. In academic circles, this type of theft is called plagiarism, and it has become one of the biggest problems we face as instructors. In any case, you were right to defend your rights. People have to learn somehow that copying without permission or copying without indicating that the words and ideas of others are being used is WRONG.Off my soapbox now ...Joel
  5. Thanks, Dave. I'll try doing that. I didn't expect FS9 to be so sophisticated.I have looked through the Learning Center but must have missed more information about ATC, SIDS, STARS, and the like. I'll look again and see what I can find.Cheers!
  6. Thanks for the quick response, John. It's too bad that that can't be replicated in FS9. I like flying under the direction of FS9 ATC, so I guess I'll just keep on flying as I have been.Cheers!Joel
  7. Sorry, I forgot to sign my previous post.Joel @ CYVR (12 km ENE of CZBB, really)
  8. I fly short hops (CYVR-CYYJ, CYVR-KSEA, and so on) because I have young children at home and don't have a whole lot of time to sit behind the monitor for hours at a stretch. When flying, I prefer to start at the gate and then go through ATC for clearances, active runway assignments, taxiing to the gate, etc. Once in the air, FS9 ATC always vectors me away from the airport, along my way, and then to the destination airport. For FS9 ATC, there seems not to be SID or STARTS. That said, occasionally, during one of my longer short hops (say, CYVR-KSEA), ATC will tell me to resume my own navigation, but even this is only for quite a short time. For short hops especially, is this how things are done in real life? Does ATC vector IFR aircraft to the runway, or does ATC assign aircraft to certain SIDs or STARS when departing or arriving at an airport? Are these SIDs and STARS decided upon by the flight crew in advance and then filed in the IFR flight plan, with ATC giving approval? If things are not done this way in real life, what would be the most realistic way I could fly in FS9: file VFR instead (although I know that jet airliners almost always file IFR)? Do something else? Thanks in advance.
  9. >I have the PMDG 737 installed into FS9. When I start FS9, a>Fault Message "PMDGOptions.dll" appears. Can anybody help. This question has been asked before, but it's hard to find the answer even using the forum's SEARCH function. Perhaps PMDG should include it in their FAQ.Anyway, if you are using Windows XP, you have to edit the file entitled FS9.CFG. The file can be found in "C:Documents and SettingsUSERNAMEApplication DataMicrosoftFS9." Of course, substitute whatever name is appropriate for USERNAME.Add the following to FS9.CFG to get rid of the error message:[OldModules]PMDGOptions.DLL=1That should work.Joel
