LOL If you guys actually read the posts you might find it less confusing.

Not sure what you mean by this?!!

Anyway, I'm certainly not confused.  I don't have AI, I don't use ATC and I know how to read and use aviation charts.  And I do manage to fly from A to B quite successfully, which I find quite amazing!!

  2. Hi Dave

I think I may have caused some confusion in my original post, so let me explain ....

I don't use FS ATC as I got fed up with the many times that it vectored me in endless zig zags all over the place [certainly most unrealistic!] and even placed me, on the odd occasion, 100 miles from the airport for an approach!!  I have tried other ATC programs such as Radar Contact and PFE but found them just another layer of work that I had to cope with.  I guess that probably the most realistic and fun ATC to use would be something like VATSIM but I have to admit that I have never tried that.

I use FlightSim Commander for my flight planning which also allows me to add waypoints that are missing from its database and I also update this from time to time with Navigraph.  As RNAV is now available at so many airports I use that whenever I can but FS ATC certainly wouldn't recognise RNAV.  I have never tried to update the sim's own navigational databases and that might well be impossible to do anyway.

So, sorry, I can't really be of much help to you.

  3. When I finish a flight I save it and make it the default flight.  How does the sim know that this is the default flight?  Is there a variable set in a file somewhere to denote this or is the flight also saved in another location which the sim recognises as a default?

    Thanks for any info.

Vector, then how do you take off from and land at large, heavily used airports, such as JFK and O'Hare without using AFC?  Just fly and ignore the in air and on the ground traffic?

I only fly a single engine GA aircraft and my interest is in perfecting flying SIDs, STARs and Approaches accurately [amongst other things], so I have never bothered with AI.  Apart from that FS2004 is a flight simulator and not an aviation replicator and there is a world of difference between the two.

  5. What folder are you trying to install into?

AFAIK FSGenesis products don't write anything to the Windows Registry and all the uninstaller does is a straightforward delete of the files that have been installed which, of course, you could do yourself.  So it doesn't matter if the uninstall data folder cannot be created - the mesh files themselves ought to be on your hard disk now.

  6. And sorry as I do not know how to change the name of the thread. Perhaps a moderator can delete it as I have been succussful in PMing Jim.

You can't change the name of the thread yourself.

Seems to me that this thread is just a load of political correctness.  It never occurred to me that it could be an obituary - so don't apologise.

  7. I don't like the iFly version (for a few personal reasons) and I am looking for an alternative.

    thank you

    Absolutely agree with you!

It's a fine piece of software but I don't want to spend whatever time I may have left on this planet learning how to fly the thing.  I'm a flight simulation enthusiast and not a systems replication diehard!

  8. Thanks. Is it difficult to do?

That's a subjective question!!  Best thing is to download ADE and read the manual.  From memory it's only about 150 odd pages long.  I use ADE for some things but not everything.  Whether it's easy or difficult to use only you will be able to say.

  9. As long as you make a copy of your original Afcad file first there is absolutely no reason why you cannot compile it directly to your Addon scenery folder.  You definitely do not need to save it to your desktop and cut and paste it to its correct destination afterwards.  I have modified probably a couple of hundred airports, if not more, this way to add static aircraft and make other improvements with absolutely no problems at all.

  10. The Gary at UK2000 is Gary Summons and not Gary Hayes.

He is covering all the major airports in the UK for FS9, FSX and P3D which is a massive task.  AFAIK he is not a big organisation like Aerosoft, for example, although he does, I believe, have others to help him in various roles such as beta testing, etc.

Gary is a very talented guy and I do hope that nobody in the community upsets him to the extent that he stops producing his work for FS9.

Having said that, he has just released V2 of Manchester -  so go get it!!

  11. Hi Dijvid

Any chance you would be willing to share the freeware files if you have them? It seems the freeware version is nowhere to be downloaded all links are dead ends.

Once I have some spare cash I will get the BDO payware one but to fill the gap to then it would be great to have the freeware one.

    Thanks

No problem!  PM me with your e-mail address and I'll send it to you tomorrow.  It's a 10 meg zip.

    Cheers.
