  1. I agree with Glynn.

There was an article in PC Pilot [flight sim magazine herein the UK] about graphics cards for FS9 and FSX in which they concluded that buying the latest and greatest cards could possibly have a negative effect on the sim.  I have an NVidia GTX 560 Ti which is light years old but does the job nicely and I see that they can still be bought on eBay for a very reasonable price.

  2. For goodness sake, :aggressive:   :Talking Ear Off:  how many times must we have guys playing 'Big Brother' & policing us & telling us what we can or cannot do??

It's a flipping game, & whatever WE want to do is up to us to decide, we do not need trolls to admonish us at all!!

However much one may disagree with what an EULA says it is not a good idea to advocate ignoring or violating it.  The developer has a reason for the way it has been worded and anyone not agreeing to it should not purchase the product.

And, "Yes!", I am taking the moral high ground!!

  3. You can't expect a developer to keep spending resources on developing for a sim that fewer and fewer people are using. I'm sure their sales of FS9 addons have shown them that it isn't worth the time and resources for the return they are getting. They have a business to run too.

Couldn't have put it better myself if I tried.  Just a pity that lots of other people can't seem to get their head round it.

  4. I'm using a 32" Samsung TV as my sim's monitor at a resolution of 1920 x 1080 which is the native resolution of the TV.

Is anyone using a 40" monitor at a higher resolution and, if so, does this have any visual impact on scenery and cockpit panels?

  5. Buy the way, they (Microsoft) "sold" the DVD-version as a give-away-by-pack included at all Win-XP-Laptops that people bought between X-mas 2003 and summer 2004 within the Europan Economic Area.

This is possibly where your problem is.  It seems to me that the DVD was "linked" to your old PC and cannot be installed on a new one.

  6. Make a backup of your FS9.cfg file then delete the original from C/users/"your name"/app data/roaming/microsoft/fs9

Start FS9 and let it rebuild the .cfg file.  Your GTX 970 should be listed in the video section.

Then copy back everything, except the video settings, from the backup file to your new file as this will preserve all your other settings and you won't have to set them up again from within the sim.

  7. Could we have a review of the payware version of this airport from someone who has purchased it?  Thanks.

I would suggest you try the freeware version of this as mentioned in a previous post - that should give you a reasonable idea of quality, etc.  Durham Tees airport is not one of the most notable of airports and you might wait forever until someone does a review of the payware version.  I won't be buying it because IMO it's not a very "interesting" airport.

  8. Good point. When I posted that I totally forgot about that list on UK2000's site.

I haven't d/loaded SoarFly's offering as Durham Tees isn't a very "interesting" airport for me.  However, there is a freebie version by someone else if you want to try it.  For some reason I'm one of those people who can't paste anything into a thread here otherwise I'd give you the link.

  9. I will wait on this one to see if UK2000 makes this airport.

I think you will have quite a long wait.  If you look at UK2000's website you will see what they are planning to finish this year and what airports they plan to release in 2017 - Durham Tees is not one of them.  After that they may decide not to support FS9 - who knows?.

  10. I can't say for sure how I'm getting the good performance, fs9 out of the box with most settings on high to ultra high, flying the Ifly 737 with gepro, ultimate terrain, hdev2 with building storms weather theme into the famous freeware KPHL scenery which is simply amazing, I'm getting about 35 frames per second in which I'm more than happy with while providing me with a authentic flight experience. No tweaks to the cfg other than upping the VC pan rate to 900.

    I'm not envious!!!!

  11. Thanks for the replies everyone.

    System specs are

    I5 660 3.2 ghz

    8gb ram

    GTX 660 2gb card

I know they are of low standards but it runs fs9 no problems, for fsx and p3d, well that's a different story

My rig is within a whisker of yours.  I'd love to know how you can run the iFly 737 in the VC with no degradation.  On my setup it's an absolute "No No" unless I want a trip full of stutters.  Perhaps that's why some time ago I decided that GA in FS9 was the only the way to go.

  12. I get a micro stutter when I load my GPS into a separate window to get a better look at it.  I just live with it as 99.999999% of the rest of the time my sim runs just fine.  I prefer to enjoy flying than trying to work out how I could get rid of such a very minor "problem".

  13. Had a quick peek at your video but can't say that I noticed anything particular.

I doubt very much that there are errors in the World textures otherwise we would have heard a lot about them by now.  I certainly don't have any myself but, there again, FS2004 is only 13 years old so maybe I need to do a bit more testing!!

  14. "Fly by wire" is a syatem which is far more complex than you seem to think Dijvid. Via this system, any manual flight control inputs by the pilot, do not go directly to exterior control surfaces via hydraulic or electrical systems but go indirectly via an onboard computer.

    Thanks for the information, Hans.

So are we saying that we want to create a virtual onboard computer inside our computers/PCs so as to operate the various exterior control surfaces?  If so then I'm not sure that I understand how this is going to improve either our flying or our perceived enjoyment of the sim.  I dread to think what overhead that would add to something like the iFly 737 or PMDG B747!!
