Michael,Thank you for the reply. The MCDU keyboard captioning is off. Still I cant set any aplhanumerics in the keyboard commands menu.I can set the autopilot disconnect switch, since its linked to the "Z" command, but I didnt find there is a key combination for the ATS disconnect switch. So I would still need to set the key for that myself.I wonder what is wrong since the keyboard works fine with everything else. Also with the MCDU the keyboard works fine, just not with the keyboard commands menu.

Carl,When I go to the PMDG key commands menu, and I try to set any function to a key press, (lets say I want it to be CTRL+Shift+J), and then I press CTRL, I press Shift and then when I press J it puts nothing there, and leaves the value as CTRL+Shift only.If try to only set the value as j, it will not register that value at all.The problem happens with any alphanumeric keys.

Hello,First of all, the simulation is absolutely beautiful. :) Thank you for that and congratulations to the team!I have a small problem and I thought I'd post it here in case of PMDG team knows about it or if any other user is experiencing it.When I try to set the keyboard commands in the PMDG menu, it does not register any of the alphanumeric key presses, and only accepts keys like CTRL, TAB, Shift.I've tried restarting my system and even changing a keyboard, but the problem persists. The key presses work normally in any other application. The reason this is important to me is that without it, I cant set the autopilot/autothrottle disconnect switches to my flight controls.Any advice would be appreciated :)

Hello Jason,Thank you for the great story. I'm sure she is a joy to fly, and I'm looking forward to make my first test flight in a few days when the MD 11 is released. Reading your story reminds me on how far we have come in the desktop flight simulation. I'm also glad KLM is still keeping its MD 11 fleet. Hopefully for a long time. :)

Looking great! And the Moomin livery is also great! Now only the Santa Claus livery to go ;)Too bad Finnair will replace all the MD-11s by 2010 with A340s and A330s, and later A350s :(

I have also been reading my set and its a really great way to study this plane. :) And everything is very well organized to the different sections.I also bought it because a PDF manual is not very handy when flying the plane. So, thank you PMDG, and youre welcome, cause you got my 120 EUR :D

Thank you Robert!Shipping costs to Finland seem much more reasonable now, and I think I will get a full set of these extremely good looking manuals. :)

Congratulations Marc!It is great to know there are people in FS developer groups who can also bring their experience from real flight training and operations to the simulator world. :)

Jack,Have you also considered the fact that even the new Boeings like 777 and 787 are equipped with fly by wire, so this means that you dont feel the forces through the yoke?Of course, these aircraft are not available for FS yet as quality add ons, but considering it as a long term investement, maybe its not so terrible if you dont get force feedback cause it will save half the money. If you fly 737NG though, I guess the force does matter.I ordered the jetliner column yoke today. I will consider contributing a review of it to avsim.com if they like, or at least post my comments here. I hope I will get it for weekend but it may be that I have to wait until monday. Cant wait to try it. Im a bit confused though because the store where I bought it had two images of the yoke looking a bit different. I asked about it and they said their model is the same as is shown on the PFC website. Here is the image that was shown in the store (the column is all black and the base housing looks a bit smaller.http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/191871.jpgIf anyone who knows more about the yokes can confirm if there are two different versions of the yoke or if its just a photo edit or something?
-
Hello Jack,Yes I found out about the Engravity yoke too, but it seemed as if there are no news about it on when or if it will be ready.I can believe that the cirrus style yoke is not the way to go. The column one seems promising, though not a lot of opinions about that one.I tried to call PFC just now but the contact person was not available so I left her a message.Have you actually got your hands on the column yoke from PFC?
-
Hi Ray and Tom!Thanks for the replies! To make sure you understand what I mean I made this little illustration. Think of it as a side view of the yoke. Which movement is the one that the yoke has for its pitch axis? :) I wonder if their Saab style yoke also has the same movement? Theres quite a big price difference between those two.http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/191846.jpg
-
Hi Ray,30cm? Wow, that IS impressive!Sorry, one more question though, does it move back forth in a "straight line (the column is always pointing up)" or is it "hinged" from the bottom (so that the column actually rotates or "rocks" around an axis like in the real plane? The images dont really give an exact idea of the movement. I hope you can understand what I mean from my English.

Hello Ray,Thank you for the reply!I'm wondering, how does the jet yoke elevator axis work? Is it only the yoke that moves when you push/pull it or is it actually the whole column that moves just like in real jets?
-
Hello,I am looking to buy a more realistic yoke, and PFC seems like one option, but does their Mooney and Beech yokes actually move 180 degrees in roll and more than just 10cm in pitch?Only commercialy available yoke I have clearly seen that moves 180 degrees and 17cm is the simkits USB yoke. Others dont seem to specify it.
-
Hello,I am one of those who are looking for the most perfect yoke for flight simulator.I am mainly flying airliners like the Level-D 767, and then also some GA aircraft, and I know that I can never get a 100% feel of the real deal, but at least I would like to get a way better feel than with CH and Saitek yokes.I have been thinking of the Cirrus Mooney Yoke (around $550) as one option, but I cant find information whether the movement is high scale (ie. it moves 90 degrees left and right with a total of 180 degrees and how big is the elevator axis travel and resolution).Does anyone own any of these high-end yokes and what can you tell about them? Is it worth the money or is the realism not really that much greater than in CH or Saitek yokes?
-
Congratulations!Wishing you a good and short BETA testing time. I'm waiting to learn and fly this aircraft. :)

Joe,The model seems to be as good as FSX is capable of. What do you expect? A photoreal render? FSX graphic engine does not allow this and probably wont for some time.As for the detail, I dont see anything missing. Both the model and textures look fantastic.

>"The plane is believed to have suddenly plunged from 30,000>feet to 10,000 feet.">>Umm, yes, which the pilots would have COMMANDED it to do, as>is standard procedure for an explosive decompression.>>Does it ever make you wonder what else the news media gets>totally wrong if they're always this wrong and misleading>about aircraft stories?Don't ever completely trust the media ;) Some people know this but theres still surprisingly lot of people who take what media says as granted and total fact.

Nice one Pete! :)And thank you for posting.
-
Hi Pete,Any chance that you could post some new shots of the Finnair livery too? :)Looking good btw!

>Daniel,> I have installed .NET framework 1.1 2.0 3.0 (the latest with>SP1), but everytime I click the browser shows the code>>What I'm doing wrong?>>Thks for any replyHello,Same problem here.

Done some further testing...Disabling the FSUIPC turbulence seems to help, but then of course there wont be any turbulence in flights. The most extreme bank angles (60*+) seemed to occur in cloud turbulence. (At least for my test flight)What I know is that in 4.28version of FSUIPC the vertical air was enabled again. Could this have caused these problems? Perhaps I'll have to post in Pete Dowsons forum about this.
-
Thanks for the info Bill!In case you wont experience any of the weird behavior, could you post your FSUIPC4.INI file here? And are you flying with ASX and which service pack are you using?
-
Robert,Thank you for the reply and insight.I believe it has to do with the rapid wind speed change that FSUIPC turbulence is creating. The shift itself is no more than 3-5 degrees, but its very quick. I dont know exactly what the Cl/Cd curve is, but it makes sense of what you said since it only happens with the 747 and not other FS addon or default aircraft. The funny thing is I dont remember this happened when I was still using FSUIPC 4.26 (though Im not sure if I flew in any turbulence those times). Could there be something in the version 4.28 thats not compatible with the 747.. If no one else is having any problem like this though, I guess its just something mysteriously wrong with my setup..
MD-11, a great product, but I have a strange small problem
in PMDG MD-11 (Legacy Version)

Would like to update that I'm still experiencing this problem.Playing with the PMDG key commands menu seems to occasionally mess up my whole keyboard so that I lose all keys (in whole WinXP), and the J key becomes down arrow. Closing FSX seems to restore the keys, so it really seems to be something with the PMDG keys menu on my system.I'm puzzled. If anyone has any ideas, please help.
