  1. Folks, I wish to OC my trusty stock E6600. I would be happy with 3.0 Ghz and from the good reading on this forum, that looks very possible. However, I may have struck a snag with RAM. I am running 4x1Gb DDR2 PC2-5300 (333Mhz) Kingston. All the OC advice appears to recommend DDR2 800.Where does this place me in terms of overclocking?Motherboard GA 965P-DS4 (Rev1)Any advice would be most appreciated.RegardsJock McIntyre (YMML)

  2. Men, Thanks again for your responses. Have d/loaded the latest driver and will install.I have made a startling discovery!!! 99% of the time I use PMDG model/s in both FS9 and FSX. Just of late, I have had the need to test some sofware using the default models. This is when I realised the sound issue. Last night I flew the PMDG 737 (in FS9) for an hour without one sound distortion. I am assuming the same in FSX after you get past the splash screen/intro music scenario and select PMDG. So, possibly I have had this issue for some time and not realised it. I have not used FSX recently for PMDG so haven't heard the music stuff on boot up. I guess this means that a different set of sound files are being used with the PMDG add-on, over the default set. Intrigued that both FS versions are affected. Well, there is still something wrong and I would like to fix. It sort of takes it away from being a video card problem and back to sound, perhaps. Have I got all the audio codecs for MSF?? How do I know that?? The thought of uninstalling/reinstalling both FS versions would induce heavy drinking and I would live with the problem given that I use the default aircraft rarely.Still like to fix. I will go through the video card and sound 'swaps' to see what I come up with.RegardsJock McIntyre (YMML)

  3. Guys, Thank you for your replies.I updated my vid driver to 84.21, the current ver reccommended by Gigabyte for the 7900GT. Unfortunately, no change to the sound quality!!!!The only thing I can think of now is to swap out the 7900GT with anything else to disprove or otherwise, the video card. I may be able to do that next week. I could aso disable the onboard Realtek and reinstall the Creative X-Fi Extreame Audio cardAnyone got any other ideas???RegardsJock McIntyre (YMML)

  4. Folks, I have had both FS9 and FSX running fine on my rig. Smooth running and acceptable frame rates.OK the problem now:- On booting into FSX at the splash screen when 'THE' music starts, the sound is distorted. Some 'crackling' and hesitation in the music sounds. When the defaults come up and you begin to select an aicraft the distortion continues. With the aircraft selected and engine running (music has stopped)the distortion continues sparodically. On applying throttle distortion increases with stutters occuring in sync with the sound issues.I have similar issues in FS9 but not to the same extent. What I have done:-1. Uninstalled and reinstalled the latest drivers for Realtek ALC 883 for the onboard sound.2. I completely removed both drivers and card for SB X-fi Extreame Audio. Creative are having problems with these cards and 4Gb RAM. I did not, but have removed it from the equation. I previously ran on the Realtek successfully before the promlem arose.3. Defraged all my drives. I am running both verions of FS on one dedicated drive.4. At some stage, I am not sure when (possibly after removing the old Realtek and Creative drivers) Some yellow(!)'s appeared under 'Sound video and Game Controllers' in Device Manager. They were against the audio and video codecs that are installed with XP. Hopefully, I have restored them correctly.I guess some obvious questions:- 1. Is sound OK everywhere else? Well I have played Windows Media Player in audio for ages trying to induce the issue. It has only happened once, with similar distortion as in FSX. I have been unable to induce this again, so a bit uncertain here.2. Are other games affected? Unfortunately I only 'play' FS!3. Are all the audio and video codecs in place? Not sure what FS uses here to check this out.As you can gather, I am assuming (pretty dangerous!!) that I do have a sound problem. Maybe it is something else and that is why I have come to you learned folks on this forum. Trust you can assist. My system specs:-Mobo GB GA-965P-DS4Intel E66004GB RAMVideo Card 7900GTOS XP Home SP2RegardsJock McIntyre (YMML)

  5. Hello Steven, This URL should answer most of your questions: http://ops.precisionmanuals.com/wiki/SIDSTARSJust to clarify. Airac's are now 'payware' from Navigraph. Most serious simmers would be using this service. With this come SIDSTARS if you want them or you can download from the other sources mentioned in the link.'also dont i nee 2 seperate downloads one for the pmdg and one for the fsx flight sim. please explain.'Not sure where you are coming from here but if you follow the Navigraph path you should be right to go. Be careful however, as the Navigraph installer may place the data in the wrong place. This is explained in a 'sticky' at the start of this forum.RegardsJock McIntyre (YMML)

  6. Zach, These sites may assist.Australia: http://www.airservices.gov.au/publications/New Zealand: http://www.aip.net.nz/Singapore: http://www.caas.gov.sg/caas/en/Regulations...rome/index.htmlHong Kong: http://www.hkatc.gov.hk/These are the relative government sites offering charts similar to FAA. No doubt there are more throughout the world. For some ready made procedures, especially for Australia browse: http://www.austscene.com/ in the PMDG section. Of course Navigraph are producing procedures for some of these airports as well.RegardsJock McIntyre (YMML)

  7. Hello Valepor, Be assured that L521, L513 and N774 are in the Airac files for cycle 0801Could I suggest that you may be trying to add the Airway in the LEGS page. Try doing that in the RTE page while inputing your flightplan and I think you will find the relative Airway will come up.As an aside, Airway L513 links Hobart YMHB (south island in Australia) to NZAA. I don't think you would be wanting that if your arrival/destinations are YSSY and NZAA.RegardsJock McIntyre (YMML)

  8. Hello 'Ash' (please sign off your post with your real name - forum rules)Not sure if you are a newbie to the PMDG 737 but you must have the FMC initialised with departure and arrival airports before you see any SIDSTARS. Apologies in advance if I am being too simplistic here.SIDSTARS for FS9 are contained in the following folder structure:-FS9PMDGSIDSTARSIf there are no text files in the SIDSTARS subfolder you will not see any SIDSTARS in the FMCIf you have been using the service from Navigraph, their installer has been placing SIDSTARS in the incorrect folder structure. Look in:-FS9FMCWPNAVDATASIDSTARSIf you see SIDSTAR text files in this sub folder, copy them to the SIDSTAR subfolder under PMDGNavigraph is payware and they include SIDSTARS for many places throughout the world. Certainly, CYYZ is included in their latest Airac cycle. If you elect not to use this service, free SIDSTARS are provided from a number of sources. Look in at PMDG Ops under 737 FAQ's/NAVDATA on how to obtain them. Trust all of this may assist you.RegardsJock McIntyre (YMML

  9. Hello ' ' (forum rules wish you are to state your name)When you say the latest Airac files from Navigraph I am assuming it is the 0801 cycle. The Navigragh installer for the Terminal Procedures (SIDSTARS) placed those files in the the incorrect folder. You will proberly see them in a subfolder under FMCWP. Place all the SIDSTAR files in the subfolder called SIDSTARS under the folder PMDG. I am assuming that you are relying on Navigraph to provide your SIDSTARS. Of course there are many other sources, but in any case they all must appear in the folders FS9PMDGSIDSTARS Your FMC should now reveal the SIDS for your departure airport. RegardsJock McIntyre (YMML)

  10. Thanks Dan.I just realised that Navigraph have also made a mistake with the FSX SIDSTARS. Their installer has created a sub folder called SIDSTARS under Navdata and placed the 0801 TP's there. Of course they should be placed in the SIDSTARS folder under PMDG.All rather confusing, but hope this clarifies where the current SIDSTARS should be placed.I agree, that folks at PMDG should take this up with Richard.RegardsJock McIntyre (YMML)

  11. Folks, If I read the post of 21/12 correctly in regard to where Airac files and SIDSTARS files are to be posted in FS9 and FSX respectively, I believe there is another error in cycle 0801 out today. While both sims will pick up the Airac files correctly for 0801, the SIDSTARS for FS9 have been placed incorrectly under the FMCWP folder. So, when accessing SIDSTARS under FS9 you will not have the latest TP's from Navigraph.I think I got it right!!Regards to allJock McIntyre (YMML)

  12. Hello, I am seeking some advice from the good folks on this forum.Current hardware config:Core 2 Duo E66002 Gb Ram7900GT Vid card250 Gb WD SATAII 16Mb HD (XP and the rest s'ware)74 Gb Raptor SATA (dedicated to FS9)I am very happy with this config and FS9As an interim step before going Vista, new vid card, DX10 etc., I would like to bring in FSX and run concurrently on the above system. It is my intention to run another HD dedicated to FSX, possibly another 250 Gb SATAII (because I have one!)OK my questions are:-1. Would I have any conflicts between either FS with this setup?2. Is there a better way? Yep, I could partition the Raptor but would prefer to leave it just now.It is essential for me to keep the performance of FS9 up to what it is currently running at. I want to 'play around' with FSX so peak performace with 'X' is not an issue.Any assistance/advice, would be appreciated.RegardsJock

  13. Folks, I am currently running a Gigabyte GA-965P-DS4 Motherboard.Looking on the Gigabyte site I find there are a number of upgrades to the BIOS for this board. As I have never upgraded a BIOS before, I am a little confused as to how Gigabyte list the upgrades. I am on F2 and the latest is F9. Do I just install F9 to bring me up to date? Fairly elementary question I know but I wonder why Gigabyte go to the trouble to provide a download for each upgrade which may infer that you have to flash each upgrade to bring the BIOS up to date.As an aside, I wonder where the F4 upgrade went to!!!Any assistance to what most likely is a pretty dumb question, would be appreciated. I guess I get concerned with messing with the BIOS and would like to get it right first up.RegardsJock

  14. Gerry, Maybe I can offer some assitance here with Justin. At Austscene http://www.austscene.com/ all SID's & STAR's have been written for Australia for PMDG. They are currently up to date with Airservices Australia publications. Some conditions do apply: e.g that you are operating under the current Navigraph release (0703) That indeed maybe some of the issues you are facing, Gerry.Along with Justin, please feel free to email me if you require any futher assistance.RegardsJock McIntyre (YMML)

  15. Jim, I have sent you the NZWN file by email.Airport Procedures (SIDS & STARS) have been built for most major airports throughout the world. These can be sourced from many places. No doubt you would have many of these sitting in your flight Sim for PMDG. Look in Program Files/MS Games/FS9/PMDG/SIDSTARS. If a procedure exists for the Departure and Arrival airports in your planned flight, when you press 'DEP ARR' button the FMC, the pre written procedures will be brought up here. What this means is that you do not actually have to write the procedure for the departure airport (SID) and the (STAR) for the arrival airport. What you do need to do is either use a flight planner or key directly into the FMC the actual route between the airports, then link them on the LEGS page in the FMC.The excellent Timothy Metzinger 'Advanced Operations Tutorial' takes you through all of this and of course there are the PMDG Operations Manuals. This hardly scratches the surface Jim, but may assist. I have given you some more detail in my email.RegardsJock

  16. Hello Jim, The idea is to create two or three FIX's 15 NM from WN. I used two, quite successfully. So try this:In the 'FIXES' section type theseFIX R190 COLOCATED WN 190 15.0FIX R175 COLOCATED WN 175 15.0In your procedure for the CC1A 34 STAR after NAVAID CABLE, type FIX R190 FIX R175 then NAVAID LYALL. This should bring you around nicely in an arc 15NM out of WN for the RWY 34 ILS/DME approach, especially if you keep the speed to 200 as per the STAR chart. The SPEED can also be written into the procedure. There are of course other ways to attack this and more learned folks than I in this forum may enlighten. I have written the SIDS & STARS for WN. More than happy to share these if you PM me with your email address.RegardsJOCK

  17. Greetings All, I am in a great position in building a new system from scratch. I am looking for some guidance from knowledgable folks on this forum. This rig will be used primarily for FS but still has the need for all the 'everyday' PC tasks that beset us - Email, MS Office and the like. There is enough information on the forum to make 'enlightened' decisions on what CPU to install, do you go RAID0, RAID5 etc. What I am after here is what is the best way to set up patitioning with all the tasks to hand. I will be having at least two 250 Gb HD's maybe three. SATA II 16Mb. So I will have the following:-1. OS (Win XP home)2. FS93. FSX (when it arrives)4. FS Addons5. All of the rest of the everyday apps:- MS Office etc. (nothing 'heavy' here)So, can you give me some clues on how I can allocate my hard drive space to the applications I have, to get the best performace for FS?While I am it, I will sneak in another little question. :D Anti virus software :- I have always used Norton's but there is no doubt that it is a resource user. Is there something that will give the same protection without the 'overload'. I am prepared to pay if need be.OK, folks any assistance will be appreciated.Regards to allJock

  18. Folks, I will shortly be building myself a new system. It will have a 64 bit Dual Core CPU. As I have the need to purchase a new OS and of course Vista is not with us yet, my qustion to you is do I go XP 32 bit or XP PRO 64 bit?The machine will be utilised using FS 95% of the time and I will be upgrading to FSX when that time comes. I have read with interest the pinned topic on 64 bit XP. It is a little old and I am now assuming that there are 64 bit drivers a plenty nowadays.I am unsure if FSX is a 64 bit application (or optimized to use 64 bit). Nevertheless, it is my understanding that there are number crunching advantages in using a 64 bit CPU and OS, regardless of how the application is written. As there is little price differance between XP PRO 32 and XP PRO 64, can I call on you knowledgeable folks here to guide me.Any assistance will be appreciatedRegardsJock (YMML)

  19. Hello Ryan, Like Sean, I am also curious as to how you maybe able to amend/append the Navdata Waypoints file. Understand the importance of the correct format in the text file etc., but where do you find the file?Appreciate any assistance.RegardsJock
