  1. Anybody else get this Microsloth Runtime C+++ Error?Had a nice flight going out of San Diego, flew VFR up the coast to John Wayne County airport and literally just before touchdown Microsoft's reality hits me in the face with a dialogue box;Runtime Error!R605-pure virtual function callEgads! The only option (of course) is to hit the "Okay" button which in turns causes the CTD which in turn causes me to sit here typing.Microsoft "support" describes what is happening in terms I have no clue of, and on top of that of course they can't put it in English as to a fix either. Never had that happen before. Can't fly any more tonight so I can't see if I can duplicate it or not. Wifey wants me to go away to bedroom and perform "some pure virtual functions".Probably just one of those things you live with from time to time I guess.
  2. Thanks so much guys!Off to give it a shot.
  3. "Purchase" ?Hell, I'd never pay for another proprietary machine again. Build you own and you'll never look back. I made the mistake once and bought a Dell. Whatta rip. It's pretty easy, just make sure all of your hardware is compatible. Then you can build it truly the way YOU want it with what parts YOU decide and then later YOU can upgrade it - not so with a prorietary machine. My old rig here I built and am running the 8800GTX for graphics and I'm running FS9 maxed out on the sliders with full ai running and I'm fine. Move into the newer stuff like the guys mentioned earlier and it'll be no sweat at all to run it that way.
  4. Is there such a thing? I've already spent tons of hours re-nstalling and getting FS9 back up and running half decent (so far as AI goes). Would be nice if one month I actually get to start flying.Would also be nice if there was a program that could automatically scan flight plans according to perimiters set up by the user that would find duplicate flights and then delete one of the offenders. Doing it by hand with thousands upon thousands of flight plans is out of the question.Oh well. Thanks again!
  5. Yup. I figured it out and received an e-mail back from scenery dev who told me what I already confirmed. Thanks!
  6. FYI -If you are interested in general ai aviation traffic, I use GATraffic. Adds any aircraft in your directory (unless the file tells GA otherwise) and you can delete any unwanted traffic simply by checking its box. It also does all the stuff that goes along with traffic files automatically (compling, etc) . No need to have to learn another program to operate it either! Best of all - it's free!Of course if you are looking for AI commercial traffic then that's another story. This is concerned with just GA traffic.I like it.
  7. Downloaded an add-on - love the scenery "eye candy" itself but for me when at altitude the difference in the tiled ground texture colors and the default landscape textures is too much to bear. (It's a sea of darker colors (default) and then this light colored small block where the photo textures are laid). Is there a way to keep the add-on structures, etc but have it so when it loads it doesn't load up the ground texture tiles for the area? Would it be a matter of simply deleting a .bgl file that point to those textures?I guess I could try it myself by trial and error. I just don't want to get FS9 all screwed up to the point of no return I guess. If it's unclear as what I am asking I could post some screens.I'll thank evryone in advance!
  8. psolk - Thanks so much for the help. Did everything you suggested - scenery was STILL showing up!Then I though...hmmm...so I went bck to the add-on folder that was sitting on my desktop and then went back into my main FS folder and did a search for one of the .bgl files - viola! It showed it in my add-ons folder. I opened my add-ons folder again for the 100th time and it shows it's NOT there! Go back to my search window - it shows it's there!Anyways, did that for all the .bgl files (doing a search), deleated them, went back into FS9, no error messages and the add-on scenery is gone. What stumps me is how a search can find it sitting in a folder and yet when I go to the folder itself it shows it's not there. Maybe there's something wrong with my shortcut to my main FS folder.Bizzare.
  9. Yes, that's right. It won't go away.Proceedure I have used......go to scebery library and click on the scenery I want to delete, click delete scenery, then shut down FS9 and go into the add-ons folder and delete the scenery there, restart FS9...scenery is still shown??? (The structures themselves I like, however the photo-real terrain does not blend in with the default terrain at all so far as colors go - from the air it looks like a huge light colored block). How can the scenery be still shown if it's been deleted out of the directory? And before you ask, no, I do not do drugs. Thanks!Perplexed in Tucson
  10. Yes it is. It's KTUS's reporting...it has changed quite drasticaly over the last few hours and KTUS is coming through with reports indicating as such and ASE is modeling it to a tee. Case closed I guess! 11:15pm - gotta go fly!
  11. Just did a quick search for low vis and found CYRL. Went there (took a minute to figure out and get the right weather) but it did it. Perfect IFR and just as reported. So ASE is displaying the weather correctly AS PER THE INFO IT HAS on my setup. So is it KTUS's reporting that's flawed? Geezum, I hope not. I just went back to KTUS and yep - the weather has still not changed "as reported"!Can anyone confirm this? If so then it's not on my end.
  12. Real short and simple.I think I'm nailing this down...for the past hour KTUS and surrounding areas here have been very IFR (low solid overcast, rain, maybe 2 mile vis) and yet ASE after going through its updates and all shows from KTUS as 22017KTS 10SM BRKN065 16/01 A2979?Huh?Looking at the last update it was 4 minutes ago. Upon refreshing the weather for updates, the weather seems "stuck on "BRKN065". Upon launching ASE depicts the weather as reported via automatic downloading including the BRKN065 cloud base, so I can't fault it for that. I shut ASE down, bring it back online, goes through its updating and after so many tries in about an hour it never shows anything but the same BRKN065. The time DOES change on the last update info line - just that the weather does not!Exactly what (settings) is preventing me from acheiving accurate weather updates though? I think that is where my problem lies. It's as if every flight orignating from the airport is ALWAYS BRKN065 - it never changes...at least it hasn't in the past hour. The report never updates. ASE window shows synthesis active and download active in green at the very bottom so I guess it has to be a setting somewheres. Either that or Tucson International is asleep at the switch!I have gone back to FSUIPC settings and cleared out the weather numerous times (unregistered version) but it makes no difference. So again, what is causing me not to receive an accurate weather update from KTUS? BTW - this is for FS9.
  13. The pics here is exactly what I get too, but in FS9!The real weather is solid overcast, but after ASE loads it up into FS9 the pic posted here is the same thing I have. No overcast. All my settings in FS9 are maxed out (all sliders to the right). I run ASE first, then open FS9. FS9 box is checked in menu also.Strange.
  14. First, please pardon my ignorance...I uninstalled MSFSX due to it's high demands and re-installed FS9 which I can run "full tilt" with everything to the right. I just got ASE, having never used AS before at all. I read through the manual that came with ASE (actually printed it out for quick ref) and have dinked around with settings - which was my first mistake. So here's the scoop...An example is today - here in Tucson it is VERY IFR - completely overcast, grey, windy, raining and can barely see the Catalina's on the other side of the street. So I fire up ASE with KTUS as my starting position and then FS9. When I hit the tarmac ASE says it is loading the weather and then weather is complete. The weather in the simulator? Clear with scattered cumulous. I'm stumped. I tried different approaches on getting the right weather to load up but every day now when I can see the actual conditions outside it's nothing like the sim models.I now its me, I'm sure the program is very capable of getting it right but HiFi is dealing with an idiot on this end. So, what steps does everyone use as a prelude to launching FS9 within ASE and then also what are you favorite settings within ASE options? I just have things soooo screwed up right now the weather isn't even close to the real thing.I dunno. Thanks so much in advance. I'm sure I'll have pleanty more questions!Jeff in Tucson AZ
  15. First off, great movie! Thanks for sharing the Spitfire.A question...what did you use to capture/edit your video with? Looking to make a vid myself of MSFS2004 but nobody knows how to capture the desktop video. Thanks!Jeff
  16. Thanks! Trial and error, I guess!Jeff
  17. Stupid and late question I guess, but I was just starting to look at downloading more AK sceneries and was wondering if the add-on sceneries from 2002 were compatible with MSFS2004 (assuming any add-on terrain meshes, etc). Thanks (again)...Jeff aka mrMertz
  18. I highly second Ultimate Traffic from Flight1 also. Works really sweet with MSFS particularly with the multiple runway use! It's not a utility, but more of a "how to" for those who are interested in plane spotting called ai traffic sounds v3 and can be found here in the AVSIM library. It's a way to increase the jet and other AI volumes so that you actually feel like you are next to a 737 when it cruises by! The default enviroment a/c sounds are lame, at best.Jeff
  19. This is in ref to an earlier post I had several months ago concerning the aircraft that disappear after "x" amount of time of sitting on the taxiway.Just wondering if with the SDK's out there somebody found that "magic digit" or two that would lengthen that length of time?Jeff
  20. Has anybody else experiences this problem with this program..SimControl loaded a bunch of new aircraft into MSFS2004 fine for the most part, but now just as the splash screen comes up to start loading MSFS, it crashes (MSFS2004). I noticed during the importing of the new aircraft I received two alert messages stating that Sim Control installed two .dll files in the modules folder within MSFS and that if either one caused problems with MSFS to remove them. Weeeell, I did, but it doesn't help at all. It still crashes. Previous to installing these new a/c and receiving those messages, MSFS2004 ran flawless.Sorry if this is the wrong area to post. I looked elsewhere before landing all this here. I'll also be looking for FlightJack for answers real soon too, to be sure. I just posted on their message board there but I have had such luck at pooling everyone's resources here that I though I'd give it a shot. Thanks once more for the help...Jeff aka MrMertz
  21. Oh Boy...What did I start? I have been away from MSFS for a few months now (work and blah, blah, blah) and was just wondering if someone had come up with a work around for my original post. The reason I put this vanishing airplane bit on MS was because I had contacted Flight One thinking it was their program doing it (Ultimate Traffic) for some reason, and THEY said that Microsoft had it built into THEIR flight sim...it was not Flight One's software. They told me somebody would have to get in their and tweek some coding or such in order to change that perhaps with the SDK's coming out. They did mention that the time for an aircraft to simply vanish from the tarmac had been reduced by Microsoft from MSFS2002.But let's face it, if I don't want to wait in traffic for TO, I'm not going to set the sim to 6PM EST at Newark International and have to taxi to the active. On the other hand, if I have the time and don't mind doing some plane spotting in the meanwhile then I'll do it specifically some times just for that while sitting in line. And yes, as some have posted, I do love this sim! Especially with the Radion 9800 Pro installed. Moves faster. Thanks for all of your post!
  22. Without reading the other posts, what add-on program are you using?I have Ultimate Traffic (highly reccomended) and I have noticed that the single biggest frame rate hit I take concerning the additional AI traffic themselves is...SHADOWS!Turn off shadowing...I get a boost of about 4-5 FPS around the airports while plane spotting.Jeff
  23. With all the SDK's released, has anybody been able to figure out how to adjust the stupid "5 minutes waiting on the ground for departing is too long so we simply make you disappear here at MSFS software development group" stuff? It's rather anoying to be watching a heap of air traffic pile up for takeoff only to periodically see them just start to simply vanish off of the taxiways because MS decided to reduce the wait times from the earlier version...this is as real as it gets? Not.I'm running Ultimate Traffic and it's NOT very realistic to just have planes simply vanish and the others move up to fill in the slot! Thanks for any feedback. I saw numerous complaints about this earlier on.Jeff aka MrMertz
  24. >"but I doubt anybody else on the entire planet is or has had>this problem but me because that's my luck.">>Nope, you're not the only one. :-) >>I prefer to use DriverCleaner>http://www.driverheaven.net/cleaner/>>More info about your system (including OS) would be>helpful...>>Don't despair... this can be fixed!Geez...I guess I really AM goofed up! Forgot my system info!Running WindowsXP Home Edition on a Dell Dimension 8200, 2.0Ghz P4, 80GB HD, 1GB DDRAM, GeForce5700 with latest drivers installed on ALL devices. And yes, I WILL be checking out that link because when I was actually re-installing my drivers again for the 'ump-teenth' time, the video again locked up on me and the screen went black!I'm begining to think it's not just when MSFS runs, though it probably puts a much higher demand on the card/software perhaps than anything else and maybe that's why I notice it more. I dunno. I'm going to try to use that DriverCleaner and see what happens. Thanks!Sincerely, Jeff aka MrMertz
  25. The new NVidia GeForce 5700 card and MSFS2004...ugh.I'm still stumped on how to get this card working with MSFS2004 without crashing it.Situation: Upon installing the card, the monitor would simply go to black. Sometimes it would reboot itself with multiple wierd color presentations upon restart, other times I usually would have to shut the power off at the surge protector."Solution" #1: I went and bought a new 430W Antec power supply and changed the physical board location (on advice from NVidia) of my ehternet card to another slot (the IRQ showed both the graphics board and the ethernet in slot 16...go figure.Outcome #1: Seemed to work fine...except when I spent a few minutes inside MSFS. Then, the screen would go black or the sim would simply hang before crashing. But...I could surf the net for hours and everything was just fine."Solution" #2: Uninstalled the video drivers and re-installed via NVidia's CD the new drivers and software again. The went to NVidia and installed the updated drivers for the card (9 December).Outcome #2: Seemed to work fine...except when I spent a few minutes inside MSFS...(see above Outcome #1)!Called NVidia again. They said it sounds like I have enough software leftover from my uninstall that it is conflicting with the new drivers. They said to download and run Nasty File Remover in order to clean up any leftover files. The problem is, some of the NVidia files (all 72) that I chose to delete, not all can be deleted because access is denied. I have no clue what the heck I am doing (isn't that obvious by now?) I'm seriously considering yanking the card out and going back to my crappy 64MB GeForce MX card. At least the sim would work. Looked like a slide show at times, but worked.Any advice would be helpful before I yank it Sunday, but I doubt anybody else on the entire planet is or has had this problem but me because that's my luck.Oh, one sidebar to all of this...when I file an error report to Microsoft the report comes back via their internet page that I indeed have an "Error Caused By Graphics Device Driver". Under technical information it has;Error Message: STOP 0x000000EA THREAD_STUCK_IN_DEVICE_DRIVER(Q293078). Whatever that means.Sorry for such a long post and thanks to all (you know who) who tried to help me out to this point.Sincerely,Jeff aka MrMertz
