    737NG A/T

Hi Guys. Thanks for all the info and the heads up regarding the different systems. I have not been at my sim today but I am 99% certain that the engine generators are turned on as per the 'After Starting' checks. However, there is always that 1% and I am the first to admit as a newbie to the 73 that I may have missed something. I will take extra care during my next startup and bear in mind all your advice. I will post back with the results.Regards to all...Ken
  2. Hi Folks.I still cannot get the A/T to arm as per Timothy's tutorial. This is the very first flight and the V speeds are set manually using the SPD REF knob. This is part of the Before Takeoff checks and after the line. It reads...dah dah dah Engine Start Switches..CONT, Autothrottle...ARM except it doesn't. The switch will not toggle but the PFD display flashes briefly.I am assuming that they should arm okay without input from the FMS as that is what the tutorial says. I know that folks have replied to my previous post regarding this but it still does not work. Everything else is as per the checklist up to this point.Any further help appreciated.Regards...Kenps. I installed the 800-900 update but prefer the 600-700 PFD and ND. Is it possible to change back as the update affects all variants.
  3. I used that facility for the 747. I forgot about it for the 73, thanks Bruno. Another senior moment!!Regards...Ken
  4. Negative, I did not know about it. I will read the docs and find out about it. Thanks for the heads up.Regards...Ken
  5. Hi Folks.I have tried to map the TO/GA to my yoke using FSUIPC but it does not work for me. Is the 737 not able to recognise input from FSUIPC? I have also tried using FS9's assignments option to map but that is not recognised either. Is clicking on the screw head the only option?Regards...Ken
  6. Hi George. Thanks for the input. I have re-read the tutorial and it looks like it is the fact that I missed the TO/GA switch on TO. I will revisit the mapping for my yoke and correct it. The V speeds are set manually for the first flight in the tutorial, so no FMC. The A/T switch was not toggling hence no green light in flight. This due to the fact of the missed TO/GA action I suppose. Cheers...Ken
  7. DOHHHH!!!! A senior moment there. Thanks also for the info Dan, I appreciate it.Cheers...Kenny
  8. Hi Folks. Thanks for the input. I haven't been back to my sim yet but Timothy sets up the 737 Vspeeds by inputting them using the spd ref knob, no FMC input. I think my problem may be the fact that I have my TO/GA button mapped to my yoke as per the 747. My flight with the 73 did not pick it up on TO. I had plenty runway so I let it run to the end and lifted off without the TO/GA button. I realise that that is perhaps not correct SOP and that is perhaps why the A/T did not engage. Is the A/T dependent on the TO/GA being active?I will rerun the flight and see what happens.Regards...Ken
  9. Hi Dan.As a beginner with PMDG, is this from the NavData site? Or a collection that you do yourself? If so, where is it available from please?Thanks...Kenny
  10. Hi Folks.I realise that I am a 'Johnny come lately' to PMDG but I now have the 747 and the 737NG. Both are really nice. However, I am following Timothy M Metzinger's tutorial for the 737 and have discovered that the Auto Throttle will not arm. The tutorial sets the a/c up manually without using the FMC so I am unsure if I have missed something although I don't think so. Also I now have a strident warning beep every second. There is nothing showing as a caution and the flight deck is cold and dark. I moved the throttles to Idle on the ground and the beep went away but now it is back and I cannot stop it. I have not had the a/c long enough to recognise if this is a warning sound or an error. I don't want to uninstall needlessly so could someone advise me please?BTW, the a/t display on the PFD flashes briefly if that's a help but the switch does not toggle.Regards...Kenny
  11. Hello Michael. Thanks for the quick reply, I appreciate it. As a beginner with PMDG I am delighted at the way everything is simulated, however, when things don't do what's expected it can be a steep learning curve. I have the FMC document printed so I will read it through and learn about custom waypoints. I am grateful for your assistance.Regards...Ken
  12. Hi Folks. After a few teething problems, of my own making, I hasten to add. I am now ready to advance my knowledge of the 747. I have installed the type rating lessons from the PMDG site. However, again I am stuck. When programming the lesson 1 route into the FMC I get a 'Not in database' error message. This applies to the NORMY intersection. I checked in FSNav and saw that this was part of the J12 airway outbound to the EPH VOR. I tried the other isec's on the route and got the same error, not in database.I then thought that it may be because they are no longer in the current airac cycle. I checked the PMDG SIDSSTARS folder for the KBFI txt file and sure enough they were not there. I then installed the airac into FSNav to see if the ISEC's were renamed but no, they are still showing as part of the airway. How do I get the NORMY ISEC into the PMDG database? Perhaps I should be looking elsewhere for the ISEC's rather than the KBFI .txt file. Any ideas?Regards...Ken
  13. OK Folks. No need to reply. I have it running fine now in FS9 and am recognising my local area. I will now have to reinstall FSX and try for the levels of detail in some of the screenshots.Regards...Kenny
  14. Hi Folks.I am looking to use TP after seeing the screenshots. Howver, the download readme says that it is a small update although the file size is quite large. The installation did not give me the results I was expecting and the Forum posts I have read mention some Folders in the scenery config. They were not there. I have uninstalled the programme again and am now wondering if there is another installer I should be downloading. I have used the link in Ed's tutorial and installed his .ini file for FS9.Perhaps someone could give me a few pointers as to version and installation. Ed's tutorial makes it seem straightforward enough but my scenery is certainly not the same as the service provider I chose. Oh, also. on TP startup I have one of the oval shapes which does not fill up with the little star shapes and my FS progress bar fills at the same rate as normal. Ed's tutorial says that it may be slow or even stall at times. I am assuming that something is not working as it should.Regards...Ken

    IRS question

Hi Guys. Thanks for all the input, I appreciate it. It looks like I have not given enough info re. the IRS. The tutorial I am using is Smitty Smiths Standard Procedures Guide. This instructs me to enter the IRS position into the FMC straight after setting the switches to ALIGN. This is prior to starting the APU. I'll keep trying the Tutorial until I get it right.Any clues as to the cause of the warning chatter?Regards...Ken
  16. Hi Folks.I am still trying to get to grips with this complex sim. I am reading through various tutorials with not a lot of success really. One thing that I would like explained if possible, is why the IRS system ' resets ' itself back to a time of 7+ mins. Here's what happens and I accept that it may well be that I am not doing things quickly enough when working through the Pre Start Checklist and tutorials.I power up the cockpit, set the IRS system in motion and work through the rest of the checks. The IRS countdown on the ND gets to 0 then goes back to a figure of 7+ with no update of position, heading or flight plan legs showing on the ND screen.Am I doing something wrong? Oh, also, one of the tutorials has a cold and dark sav file loadup at startup. When I select the battery to ON I immediately get a warning chatter and the screens stay dark until I start the APU. The tutorial says I should hear a cockpit fan and the screens should come alive allowing me to monitor APU engine signs. Again, I am doing something out of sequence which is causing the chatter.Regards...Ken
  17. Hello Ronzie. Thanks for the info. I appreciate it. Sorry for the delay in replying, I have only just gotten back to the Forum. I will re-read and digest all your advice. However, I have another question re. the IRS system not initialising but I will make that another post.Regards...Kenny
  18. Hi Leffe. Thanks for the link. I will try it out. I'll keep yourself and Dan posted as to my efforts.Regards...Ken
  19. Okay Dan,I see how it works now. I have printed off the FMC manual so I will have a good read through that today. The tutorials that I have all use ready made routes, so to speak. I will try it again this evening and post back to let you know how I get on.Regards...Ken
  20. Dan,here's what's happening. My FSBuild plan uses the NGY1K SID out of EGPK (Prestwick) UK and the WILLO3B STAR into EGKK (London Gatwick). However, the IAP plate shows a more detailed Non Radar Control approach using the WILLO intersection and the Mayfield VOR.I used FsNav to build this into the FSBuild plan after export from FSBuild. I could not figure out how to get it from FsNav into PMDG. I decided to programme the FMC manually but on the RTE page it did not find the NGY1K SID. I then tried to input the SID fixes that a printout from FsNav gave me but it did not find them either. These are TRN02 TRN31 TRN08 andTRN84. I have tried using the 'Find' option in both of the txt files you mention but to no avail. I must admit I have not as yet checked them in FsNav to verify them. The txt file for EGPK is in the PMDG\SIDSTARS folder. That is why I am confused that the FMC is not finding it. Perhaps I am doing something out of sequence.I will try again tomorrow, (2340Z) here<G> and let you know how I get on. I am assuming it's my fault as a newbie. Sorry to hear about Grace. Like Grace, our Bailey is a great companion to us also.Regards...Ken
  21. Hi Leffe. My version of FsNav does not have PMDG as an option in the Export drop down menu. It shows various other addons and FS2004 but not PMDG. Can you explain further how to do that?ThanksKen
  22. Hi Dan.Thanks for the info, I appreciate it. I will try building my plan again but still unsure how to enter intersections into the FMC if it keeps telling me they are not in the database. I know that is a bit obvious but I am making the assumption that the current airac should have included them in.Anyway, off topic here. Is that an elderly Irish setter in your post avatar? I have a 5 yr old setter boy.Regards...Ken
  23. Hello Folks.I am new to the 747-400F and I am having some issues with programming the FMC. I hope someone can give me some pointers. Here's my problem.I am using FSBuild to construct a flight plan from EGPK down to EGKK. This allows me to export the plan into FS9, FSNavigator and also the 747 in .pln format. However, I find that I cannot zoom in close enough to fully complete the STAR at Gatwick. I open the plan in FSNav and this lets me put in the finishing touches to the STAR. However, this formats in .flt format. I also have the current Airac cycle from NavData. So everything should work. Now, when I try to enter the plan into the FMC it tells me that the NGY1K SID out of EGPK is not in the database, yet I can see it in the PMDG SIDs and STARS folder. I have also tried building the plan manually in the FMC as per the manual but again it tells me that the SID waypoints are not in the database.I must not be fully understanding the operation of this. Could someone help out please as to which format the FMC recognises? That is, will the FMC recognise a plan built in FSNav? Also, I don't understand why it,s not finding SIDS and waypoints when I have the current Aiirac.Any help appreciated, thanks.Regards...Ken
  24. Hi Folks. My sim allows Milton's Dash7 to taxi at speeds approaching 40 knts!! I apply the brakes obviously at lesser speeds to control it but I would like to set it up to taxi at a more ' normal ' speed.I have tried recalibrating my FSUIPC settings, to no avail. I have installed a taxi speed gauge but it just shoots through the set speed. I have looked at the config file and also used AirEd but I am unsure what settings, if any, would slow it down.Has anyone else experienced this? Or can anyone tell me how to slow the bird down on taxi?Curiously though, even at full throttle the aircraft never exceeds about 210 knts. I have tried adjusting prop settings but again to no avail.Any ideas folks? Regards...Ken
  25. Hello again Folks.I have scripted new XML radios to show on a popup window in an MFD type background. After some help they work just fine. However, I now find that they don't work on initial a/c load. I have to select another a/c then reload 'my' a/c to make the radio freqs. change. Is there a known reason for this type of thing or should I post my selector knob script?Regards...Kenny
