  1. I am getting acceptable results running FSX on VISTA..for example, on ground YBBN get 15-20fps; airborne over Brisbane get 25 fps...I think problem may be video card which has only 256mb ram.Ron
  2. I am running FSX on Vista Business edition -- no problems EXCEPT....when I change views (mostly from spot to 2d panel, F11 to F10), the screen goes black for a couple of seconds, sometimes twice, sometimes with a "loaded 100%" message flashing briefly. Then the screen returns to normal. This is not a stutter, as the simulation continues on during the blackout -- quite disconcerting if you change views near touchdown!I am running an ATI Radeon 9550 card with the latest ATI Vista drivers on a 3ghz machine with 1 gb memory.Has anyone else experienced this behaviour and/or found a cure? It is spoiling the FSX experience markedly!Ron McKeirnan
  3. I installed both FS2004 and FSX versions all in one hit -- no problems.I just wish there was a manual though!!Ron
  4. I have a common problem in some of the add-on Boeing aircraft I have for FSX -- eg CaptainSim 757, Wilco B777, Kittyhawk B737-200 etc...On the ground (stationary and when taxiing), the tail plane / horizontal stab flips up and down continuously .. this only stops once airborne. (I don't see this happening with the default aircraft.)I have tried all sorts of trim and sensitivity adjustments to no avail ... but there must be a simple solution, as I cannot find any other references to this in the forum.Any suggestions muc appreciated!Ron
  5. I have similar problem .. also the tail plane flaps madly while a/c is on ground or taxiing ...FeelThere won't handle 777 for FSX isues in their forum .. they say all questions to Wilco, the publishers ... but Wilco has no forum so!!!!Ron
  6. I wonder if some of the commercial aircraft add-on producers aren't rushing too fast to cash in on anxious FSX-ers like me!So disappointed with the default passenger liners for online flying (especially lack of FMS), I purchased the 787 just released on the market so I would have at least one plane up to the demands. No way: its FMS database is almost totally lacking waypoints needed for flying in Australia; its autopilot will not meet altitude / vs settings on descent; ILS is very dodgey; speed control is erratic etc....so I'll just to patiently wait for PMDG LevelD etc to do a proper job ... any pay up!!Ron
  7. I am running FSX on a machine with following: Intel Pentium 4 630, 3.00 GHZ ASUS P5S800-VM motherboard, 1022 MB ram ATI Radeon 9550 video (secondary AGP) 256MB memory, 250MHZ DirectX 9.0cwith most sliders set in the middle, I am getting between 3 and 20fps; turning view is very jerky; spot plane jumps all over the screen; unexpected fluctuations in framerate - for example, on ils approach I may be getting 15fps but every now and then a stutter and drop to 5fps for no apparent reason!I have even tried with autogen scenery OFF -- still same problem...BUT what really puzzles me is that throughout Windows Task Manager shows that cpu usage never rises above 55%. What is happening to all that other computing power? What am I doing wrong???any suggestions most welcome.Ron
  8. Many thanks for that William:I downloaded the revised AIRAC and all is 100% ok again!sorry I had missed seeing that the problem had already been noted there and corrected.now to see how much updated AIRACs are going to cost us from Navigraph -- not too much I hope as I use PMDG LevelD PSS ATR and FSNav ..... pity they can't all start to use the one and same data format !!!!Ron
  9. Just recently added the 400F to my hangar, and am greatly impressed!Have noticed a strange behaviour since...when aircraft is on final approach and properly lined up with runway (ILS showing no deviation), in both MAP and PLAN views the runway and centreline are at an angle ... quite disconcerting. The pics below show a/c lined up on 01 at Brisbane (=016 magnetic)...in both views you can see the runway at an angle ....in MAP view, the runway appears to be 027 --- and this is the magnetic deviation at Brisbane (11 degrees east) added to the runway heading. In PLAN view the runway seems to be about 35 degrees???Is there any explanation for this, and any way to correct it .... it's rather difficult to use instruments that are so far off target when making an approach in less than excellent visual conditions..any help appreciated.Ron
  10. Jim:am using Build 470.btw did short flight (just over an hour) last night .. no problems there; weather spot on all the way.Ron
  11. Thanks for the reply ...have checked out your suggestions... none of them seem to be the case...maybe an example helps:yesterday I "flew" Los Angeles to Sydney ... nearly 14 hrs..weather stayed up to date for the first 3 hours, even over the ocean using those $ (pseudo??) waypoints ...next time I checked (about 6 hours later, a download had failed: the message was there promising refreshed data at next scheduled update ... but nothing had happened, even though I have 10 minute setting. So I manually refreshed ... and all was well for the next couple of hours... then same failure..so it's not a firewall or antivirus problem.. and I can understand a download fail occasionally because of net congestion etc... It is the failure of the program to update again after a missed download I am having problesm with ..Ron McKeirnan
  12. I am having a problem I can't solve ....I frequently get a message that download failed: data will be refreshed at next scheduled download .... I have this set for every 10 minutes, but on long flights I find that after a couple of hours even, still no refresh...am I missing somehting in the setup?nb : this is most common on trans-oceanic flightsRon McKeirnan

  14. We now have a number of add-on products that offer improved ground textures -- and naturally all claim to make FS2004 come alive for the true to life experience!Has anyone seen a 'critical' comparison of these products -- one that impartially evaluates what is on offer? After all, there is no point in owning more than one such add-on, and it's always good to spend one's dollar on what seems best.Ron

    speed brakes

ooops I am referring to the B777-200LR aircraft in the above postRon
  16. from earlier posts I understand that messages displayed about speed brake extension are true to life ...BUTI have gotten into trouble a couple of times when I have extended the speed brakes on descent and forgotten them ... with bad results!!At least in real life the pilot has a visual cue that the brakes are extended .. he can see the lever... so can I in the simulator IF for some reason I open the pedestal window; but that is unlikely ...so: I suggest there might be a place for compromise here between absolute accuracy and practical reality: some sort of visual cue in the main panel window that the brakes are extended ..Just a suggestion for consideration in any further development of this excellent aircraft!Ron
  17. Many thanks for the reply ....when I checked the default flight, I found that I had modified it... restored to original and all works well now thanks...Ron
  18. I have installed the 777-200LR and flown several flights without any problem: a beautiful bird indeed!!EXCEPT --- when I open the radio panel, i cannot tune the comms radio or get the standby-active switch to swap the frequencies... the outher and inner knobs of the frequency selector switch move OK, but nothing happens to the digital display ... the whole comms system seems frozen, using either left or right transmitters.Anyone else had this problem, or able to suggest a cure please??Ron
  19. Many thanks for your help ... it seems fixed now...I had downloaded a panel.cfg to fix the mouse flicker -- but it must have been an older one, because when I downloaded the current fix from PSS website, it worked 100% and now allo ws me to move through the various views as usual...
  20. I have just installed the A320 package ... when I startup with the A320 loaded, all is normal .... the S key allows me to cycle through v/cockpit,tower and spot plane views as usual....but once I have activated any other panel view (eg opened the IFR panel or mcdu), any attempt to later use the S key fails .... I get a VFR panel with blacked out windscreen that superimposes. If I 'undock' this window, I get the usual vfr panel with the spot plane or tower view in the window !!!! Similarly the ctrl-S key to view the aircraft position on ground becomes unavailable.I have tried all sorts of ways of correcting this, and cannot get full window spot view again even using the menu/views any help please??Ron
