  1. I've been trying to find an answer on the forums to this issue, but am stuck - sorry if I've missed something obvious. When I first ran TP I got "missing filter" messages. I copied some files into Windows/system32, and that let me make progress. I'm running on Vista, SP1, btw.I now get this, using Run as Administrator:http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/173112.jpgAny ideas what's up?
  2. I have had a hard time with Sp1 blurries. I figure this post might only help a couple of people, but worth a go, you know!?My rig is a 6600 Core Duo @ 2.4G, 2 GB of RAM, and a 8800 GTS - bought largely to run FSX. Frankly, if we can't run a modern game on this platform, there's a problem. I run Q4 & D3 at max settings with no stutter, and both games are state of the art 3D, imho.I had frame rate issues with FSX RTM. Much of the world, no problem. With Horizon's UK scenery I could get 50+fps, with no Autogen - nice, clear, detailed textures. But NYC and similar was down to 5/6 fps - unflyable. I was disappointed. So I hoped SP1 would sort it. And at first I thought it had. NYC was suddenly in the happily-flyable teens. A real improvement - until I got the blurries. Horrid, nasty blurs everywhere.I've tried every tweak. V_synch leads to tearing - not good. Many tweaks make no difference. AA on a GTS8800 is not a limiting issues, as far as I can see, since the graphics card is not being stretched (roll on DX10!) - likewise resolution seems not to be an issue. I think you can crank up a lot of your settings, or lower 'em, without significant changes to texture clarity. But I have improvements by 3 ways:1. Set The TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT=400 - yup, 400, not 40, and I think there is a minor improvement here2. FIBER_FRAME_TIME_FRACTION=0.4 - I have seen many different suggestions for this, but I am 99% sure I saw a better result with texture loading with this setting. The above 2 I thought helped after a clean RTM + SP1 install. But I was really unhappy with the remaining blurries. I figured more radical surgery was needed.3. This is the killer: I had FSX on a separate HDD, a SATA_II 300GB monster. Tonight I decided to uninstall the lot. Then Format D:. Ouch. But I figured radical measures were needed. And using Perfect Disk I couldn't help but notice in "Analyze" mode that black unmoveable blocks were all over my drive - which must be slowing down access, I figured. So a full format was required. Then a defrag (to my surprise PD STILL defrags a blank drive - at least it's quick, though!)Then a FSX reinstall. Run it, fly a couple of flights. Then PD defrag. Then SP1 install. The result: minor blurries - and I may be kidding myself. Possibly this is what I was seeing before (because at low alt without Sp1 I noticed blurring anyway) BUT huge frame rate improvements. London City -> H'row, for example, has jumped by 50 - 75% fps. A completely different experience now. And clarity of textures that I am happy with - if there are blurries, they ain't a problem for me. Yet. In a week I suppose I might complain again! Why do I mention it?Because everything I've read suggests reading textures from disk is the big issue with blurries. And my original FSX install was on a clean HDD. I've put all kindsa stuff on since - hence my poor initial SP1 performance. Now I've gone back to basics, with a freshly formatted disk, things seem to have improved significantly.I hope it helps. You can get another HDD for nowt, these days. Worth a go, I reckon.
  3. Mike, if you like that, you'll love it with some photo scenery, especially if you can get some to cover wherever home is. I'm using Horizon's VFR England scenery, and it is simply mind-blowing. Autogen can be dispensed with, because the scenery's so good, and I get 50+ fps or so regularly (with an admittedly pretty modern system).I now like to head off from my local airport in my new SF260 (even more frame-rate-friendly, btw!), fly over my house (I can see the neighbour's car in the street) and then head into my local city, and from there I choose a motorway out of town and navigate by sight. It is a revelatory experience, not least because I never knew how many places were close to each or how they related, geographically to one another, till I saw them from 1000'!I can't recommend the scenery highly enough (and I've no connection to Horizon - there's another thread on here extolling their praises).Just had to mention it, triggered by your "intimate relationship" remark - too true.Paul
  4. Can anyone shed any light on why the Backspace key is needed sometimes, before the +/- keys will work? It's kind of annoying, and I can't imagine why it should be necessary - any thoughts much appreciated.
  5. Many thanks for the reply. The fat guy in the right seat seems to do the trick. I've only had chance to hugely up the passenger weight, but I now have a right-drift problem, so am pretty satisfied there will be a solution here once I get to tamper with the figures. Excellent.Your tip about the A/p was even better. I decided to sit down and learn how to use it, and am now happily extending flights both in my Cessna and my Lear, using the A/p more comfortably than I'd imagined - and to my surprise I haven't lost the interest I thought I might lose by handing over Hdg/Alt control to the bird.So - thanks again, for both tips. Much appreciated, and highly recommended to other relative newcomers. A/p has meant in particular that I have been able to figure out a bit about VORs and ADFs that was eluding me whilst I was hands-on.
  6. Just completed this today after MANY hours of trying. All sliders max'd to the right for realism. Really hard, I thought. The key for me, in the end, was to land with a little forward pitch, so as not to drop the tail end onto the deck. Not sure, but I got the impression that I was clanging the tail rotor as I came down, previously - and like an earlier poster I thought I'd got it on a dozen occasions before finally getting there.I also saved immediately, for posterity, once the "complete" or "success" or whatever notice came up... and once I returned from the save, hoping to fly off, the bird fell off the back of the boat and crashed (without any input from me) immediately. Kinda took the shine off the achievement!
  7. We flying the same course?!!I get to the bridge at TP1, no problem, at 5K'+ but then for the life of me can't find the lift to find my way back. All the ridges seem lifeless, lift-wise. What am I missing? Have I already lost too much alt. by this point, do you think?Congrats to the mission builder, anyway - great fun, this soaring.
  8. I have an issue with "drift" - from straight/level flight I find that over time my left wing drops slightly, and I turn left slowly as a result. This doesn't seem to happen in a Learjet. In the Cessna it's a problem, and in a twin prop too, for IFR in particular - every few seconds I need to fly back on track, and the basic birds have no aileron trim (or I can't find it, anyway - I admit to newbie status). The problem happens with large null/dead joystick zones. More to the point, it happens if I ctrl+k to turn off the joystick, when I use keys to set up s/l flight.I fly with all sliders right, but have moved "p" and "gyro" left to try sort the problem. No difference. Calibration as per control panel looks fine.I've searched here (and elsewhere to be fair) and found lots of similar threads - but no answers that have worked, yet!I'm using a Duo Core PC with a GTS8800 (FSX looks amazing, but even I can't do NYC with autogen pumped up) and I have no other issues save a couple of driver problems with flashing green wing shadows on the ground. I'm using a Saitek X52 Pro (marvellous stick).Any ideas much appreciated. And as a newcomer here, congratulations on an amazing site and forum. I've lurked for some weeks, and am hooked. Great community.
