  1. I've just checked: I deleted (renamed) the panels folder, created an empty panels folder, reinstalled the 1.20.0055 update and it installed the panels dated 27th December 2008. So if that's correct, the problem is something else.James Butler
  2. One thing that is recommended in many CTD threads is not to use any panel states from a previous version. When I look in the panel folder on my system, the dates of the panels are 27th December 2008, which I suspect means they are from update 1.10.0051. Maybe when I installed the 1.20.0055 update, the panels didn't get updated?James Butler
  3. Since upgrading to MD-11 v1.20.0055 on FSX/Vista I've been getting a lot of CTDs. The latest occured shortly after taking off from LAX on a VFR flight, just as I engaged autoflight. The Application Error isFaulting application fsx.exe, version 10.0.61637.0, time stamp 0x46fadb14, faulting module PMDG_MD11.DLL, version 10.0.61355.62, time stamp 0x49b7c81d, exception code 0xc0000005, fault offset 0x00118301, process id 0x1344, application start time 0x01c9e8f2c14633d3.Any ideas? I've been getting CTDs with DirectX10 turned on and off....James Butler
  4. Just to add another data point: After updating to V1.20, I'm also getting CTDs when attempting to use the FMS. I haven't yet managed to consistently recreate the problem, but if/when I do, I'll post the details here.James Butler
  5. It was a female instructor who taught me to fly - she's now a Captain flying jets for a major airline. And she certainly has a face and figure for the big screen!I have twice met the Space Shuttle astronaut Marsha Ivins, a veteran astronaut who has flown on the shuttle 5 times (so far). When asked what her ultimate ambition was, she jokingly said "Now that there are qualified female astronauts for every role on the Shuttle, I want to be on the shuttle's first unMANned flight". If you ever get the chance to go to a presentation by Astronaut Ivins, then definitely do so 'cause she's a fantastic speaker.James Butler
  6. Michael,Many thanks for your quick reply.More info. for you:System is Vista with latest SP & patches. I run FSX as an ordinary user, not as Administrator.Key assignment was ctrl-shift-pAssigned key did show on the PMDG command menu, but it was not in the PMDG_MD11_Kbd.ini file. However: I then tried running FSX as Administrator.Trying to assign a key in the PMDG command menu crashed FSX.I then re-ran FSX as an ordinary user, assigned the ctrl-shift-p key, and now it works. This leads me to suspect that the issue may be a permissions problem on the PMDG_MD11_Kbd.ini file, as the owner of the PMDG_MD11_Kbd.ini file has been changed to be my usual (Non-Administrator) user, not Administrator.Cheers!James Butler
  7. Look like I'm the first one to not understand something :-)How do I program the Autothrottle disconnect key?I can disconnect the autothrottles by opening the forward pedestal and pressing either of the Autothrottle Disconnect buttons, which are on thrust levers 1 & 3.I tried using the PMDG/Keyboard Commands... menu to assign a key to Throttles/Disengage ATS but that didn't seem to work.In fact, after doing a bit of checking, it appears that none of the PMDG/Keyboard command assignments seem to work - I just tried assigning the same key to Tottle Overhead Panel and that didn't work. D'oh...?James Butler
  8. More info :From further examination of the firewall logs, I now don't think it's the Macrovision protection that is sending out the packets. (Apologies to Macrovision, sorry guys!)Instead, I think FSX talks to itself via TCP, and these are the packets being blocked by the firewall. So, the solution is to let fsx.exe have full outbound access through the firewall.James Butler(aka PPRuNe Dispatcher)
  9. Starting FSX with no FSX.cfg didn't fix the problem. The dll.xml is perfectly fine. I'd saved a copy when things were working perfectly, and it hadn't changed when I got the corrupt gauges etc. However, I do have another data point : I have to have my outbound firewall turned off for 747-400X to succesfully run. If it's on, I get the error. If it's off, I don't.And so I believe the issue is caused by the coppy protection/validation code. I should have realised this as soon as I saw that the installation package was Macrovision.... So now my question is : specifically what programs do I have to allow, and which ports do I have to open up so I can run 747-400X?James Butler
  10. I'm trying to run 747-400X on my Vista system, but I'm getting some strange problems. The gauges are corrupted, all lights are on, the displays are blank, the nose gear is pointed off at 90 degrees, the body gear is retracted but the wing gear is down. None of the control surfaces move.Restarting FSX doesn't fix the problem. Neither does rebooting the system.I guessed that it's a a possible problem in fsx.cfg and dll.xml but according to the 747-400X FAQ document on your website, they are correct on my system. The three entires are in the dll.xml file, and the fsx.cfg contains seven entires in the [Trusted] section. The O/S is Vista ultimate, the cpu is an E6600, the graphics card is an 8800GTX, and I've got 2Gb of RAM and about 600Gb of disk space free.I tried uninstalling and reinstalling 747-400X, and then uninstalling and reinstalling FSX, FSX's SP1 and 747-400X but just keep getting the same problem.I've tried turning UAC off but that didn't help either.I tried the fsx.cfg tweaks but they also made no difference.I've made sure that Advance Animations is on.And then - after another re-install, everything started to work! So I copied the good fsx.cfg & dll.xml files... but after a few flights, the problems came back. So I copied the "good" fsx.cfg & dll.xml files back to the FSX folder, rebooted and... the problem still occurs. So, what else can I try?James Butler
