  1. *Also, if anybody can recommend any other jobs related to aviation, or transportation in general, please do. I definitely want to be involved in the transportation industry as a career.

Have you thought about Air Traffic Control?

  2. I think the 747v2 is my most anticipated aircraft after the FSL A320. I'm still on the fence about the 777 as per my previous post but I keep finding myself drawn to it.

Yeah, while I am definately excited about the T7, my true love is found with the Queen of the Skies.

Mostly due to the fact that I am part of a crew flying a full-sized 747 sim around the world every November for Worldflight.

  3. In only untill October 2013, then the 744D's will be retired. Ending the long history of the 747 in Japan :(

Anyway, best short 777 ops? I have to agree Japan. The RJTT-RJOO flight takes 45 min to a hour. ANA and JAL both operate 772's and even 773's sometimes on that route. Other routes that are longer but under 1 hour and a half are RJTT-RJFF and RJTT-RJCC, these three routes are some of the most busy routes in the world.

    Damn that sucks!

The first rather short flight I will probably do (after I sleep deprive myself on the SYD-YVR and SYD-LAX legs) is a DXB-DEL. EK operate it in a 77L (EK514 from memory) and its about 3 hours...It will feel extremely short after numerous longhauls in the vicinity of 13 hours :He He:

  4. Thank you James. Don't mind making things complicated, I am a pretty advanced FSX user, which just a few question that I've had for a long while.

One more question though, where do I find the EO ACCEL HEIGHT for my specific departure airport. I wanna know this because the BARO knob should be set to runway elevation + EO ACCEL HEIGHT. I looked on all kinds of charts for a specific airport, but couldn't find them. Is there any default rule of thumb? I know for EHAM it's 1000 ft, not sure about other airports though.

    Hi Arjen,

As Matt said above, airlines usually have their own EO procedures and for where I am we have Jeppesen publish EO charts for us which we have in our airway manuals. We also have the instructions on our AAM's (Airport Analaysis Manuals) and we write the procedure down on our TOLD cards (Take off and Landing Data Cards). However, we set our BARO bug to ACCEL height (not EO ACCEL), so depending if were using NADP1/NADP2 (Noise abatement departure procedures), we will usually either set 1000" AFE or 3000" AFE respectively.

ACA uses UPR's (User Preferred Routes) on this route so it may vary slightly day-to-day due to differing winds, adverse weather etc.

  6. Yeah, although I must admit the logic at QR sometimes baffles me, I flew on a A330, OBBI - OTBD a few days ago and it was empty. As soon as the doors close we all get up and pick our own seats :)

Free lie-down seats. Love laying across 3 Y seats (especially with a middle-east carrier which offers good service  ).

  7. Luke,

Since you seem to use the FIX page alot, is PRED ETA - ALT modelled on the fix page? (i.e. If I put in 1300Z in LSK 6R, will I get a pointer on my ND [little green circle with 1300Z next to it]). IIRC, it wasn't modelled in the 744 so kinda curious (and yes before people abuse me I understand the 744 was released when the dinosaurs were still roaming  ).

  8. So with step climbs you request a raise in altitude of 2000ft when the planes efficient cruise altitude is 2000ft higher then your current cruise altitude?

Usual rule of thumb is soon as OPT ALT indicates 1000ft above your current altitude, you step climb to an altitude 1000ft above the optimum. Unfortunately you can't always be directly on your optimum altitude due to RVSM rules (direction of flight etc.)

For example, you are crusing at F360. When OPT ALT in FMC shows reaches F370 (and if MAX ALT is also above F380), you would climb to F380. Across the atlantic, usually flight levels are available every 1000ft, so it may be possible to cruise at your exact OPT ALT (or within 1000ft of) depending on the traffic in the area.

  9. Well even against the biggest engine in the world the GE90, the 767-300ER still has a better power to weight ratio. The 767 has the highest in the world.

Yep, its awesome seeing the 767's which operate short 1 hour ops (Like SYD-MEL) lift off like a rocket.

Light fuel loads and they lift off like a bat out of hell.

  10. Great info everyone, so is there a rule as to when to put the landing gears and flaps up after take off? I'm assuming once you reach 400' AGL that's when it happens?

I will assume you are asking in regards to the 737.

Gear up when positive rate-of-climb is identified on the VSI.

For flaps, on your speed tape (left side of PFD) you will see numerous green marks with flap speed markers (5, 1, UP etc). As you pass 5, select flap 1 (In the 737 you skip flap 2 both when lowering and raising flaps), and then as you are passing the 1 green marker, select flap up.

    You can see these markers in this photo below;

  11. Very nice video Luke, wondering where the electrical hum is on the flight deck? This is the first thing you hear when you enter the flight deck yet it always seems to be missing on PMDG products.

There is that distinct electrical 'ticking' sound when turning the battery on in the NGX.

Nothing beats the lovely beeping sounds you get though when the Airbus is powered up..Makes me think I am in Space Shuttle Discovery :h0134:

  12. Don`t the triple seven turns the heading to TRUE automatically when you approach the pole or you have to do it manually? Cause Luke said he would change to TRUE at SOMAX.

Yep, according to the manual when entering the polar region it will automatically switch to TRU (annunicated by a white box around the word TRU on the ND).

However Luke isn't in the polar region, hence why he will do it manually.

    The north polar region for example is defined by the black 'key-hole' in this diagram. When in this region it will switch automatically;

Also what is Navigation Performance Scales?

NPS are additional readouts/scales on both the ND and PFD.

For example, on the ND, you will see RNP and ANP in green on the bottom of the display. ANP displaying actual navigation performance, RNP displaying required navigation performance. There are also additional scales on the PFD where usually the GS and LOC scales are displayed. NPS are also seen in the NGX so you are probably somewhat familar with them.

  13. NGX is nice.. I especially love the sound in the cockpit when turning the batteries on.

Aerosoft Airbus is pretty sweet aswell with the additional sound enhancement pack by Steve (available through the support portal @ Aerosoft).

But going from the preview videos of the PMDG T7, those might GE90's are going to take over every product as the sexiest sounding bird in my FS hangar. That spool sound is just excellent.

  14. Yeah BA doesn't actually have NPS in their -200's along with a lot of airlines. I think they may have it in their 300ER's though! Yeah I love using TRK in cruise - lots of nifty features  ^_^

Nice and easy to set your HDG bug to your current HDG aswell...Don't have to chase the triangle. Shame the NAT's are quite southerly today, otherwise you could of managed a nice pic of the northern lights

    Happy position reporting!

  15. Whenever I go onboard a 777, one of my favourite stages of the flight is the flight control check. PMDG captured this with so much perfection...

Here we are stepped up to FL360, which will be crossing altitude today on NAT-G. Just received clearance from Gander and you can see the Mach restriction on the Captain's FMC (.84 at SOMAX). I think I got the majority of BA's options customised here - just not their custom GPWS callouts they use. Greg if you see this, I'll be switching to TRU at SOMAX as per BA SOP's  :P (I think that's correct!)

Well there ya go I learn something new everyday...Never knew there was an option to turn of NPS (Navigation Performance Scales) in the T7... I am too caught up in my knowledge with the NG/74'...lol

Nice to see the HDG up in lieu of TRK up aswell on the ND....Sooo many options, setting up a realistic airline profile is definately going to be fun!

  16. Since Stephen mentioned it under the coming soon section over at Simforums, I believe the bump aircraft option will be in the next beta.  He said it will be accessible under the configure tab on the OPUS interface.

Ah sweet.. Ill keep my eye open on the downloads page of the Opus website then for the new beta. Thanks, Chris.
