  1. HiI need help identifying a system hang error please.I have just installed Horizons Gen X photo scenery version 3 with no problems and defragging inbetween volumes.Tried a quick flight and no problems. Then I put on Treescapes and again defragged the drive.Next updated my UT2 summer schedule to summer 2011.I tried FSX again, but this time I get a hang on the main menu screen, which then gives a no response .The error log shows the following. Description: A problem caused this program to stop interacting with Windows.Problem signature: Problem Event Name: AppHangB1 Application Name: fsx.exe Application Version: 10.0.61472.0 Application Timestamp: 475e17d3 Hang Signature: 78b6 Hang Type: 0 OS Version: 6.1.7601.2.1.0.768.3 Locale ID: 2057 Additional Hang Signature 1: 78b69d5f01e572b0cf4b3054af565685 Additional Hang Signature 2: b354 Additional Hang Signature 3: b35482de5074cab06e2afa53cf90a479 Additional Hang Signature 4: 78b6 Additional Hang Signature 5: 78b69d5f01e572b0cf4b3054af565685 Additional Hang Signature 6: b354 Additional Hang Signature 7: b35482de5074cab06e2afa53cf90a479I've searched and found a few similar problems but no solutions.Anyone any ideas please.ThanksWhiskeyBravo
  2. HiI've had Flight Deck Companion for some time but have not used it,mainly because it looks complicated to set up and use.I've also seen Multi Crew Experience which I like the look of. My questions are; What are the fundamental differences between the two?Could I have both installed and use one at a time?Which one is easiest to set and use?PS(I've moved this post from I think the wrong subforum)RegardsWhiskeyBravo
  3. Idahosurge.Yes I'd read about the problems with earlier Marvell drivers, and I'd downloaded the latest ones from Asus but hadn't taken the plunge to install them yet.I'll not be using RAID and have IDE mode set in the bios. So I think I'm good to go.Case closed.Cheers for your help Chaps.WhiskeyBravo
  4. I have another question regards using mechanical drives. My MB is Asus P6X58D-EI planned to have the 300Gb sata 2 V/rap (with win7 X64 and supporting programs) on a sata 2 controller which i believe is the Intel controller. Then put the 600Gb V/rap sata 3 (FSX) and 1Tb Caviar sata 3 on the sata 3 controller.Does this have to be the Marvell controller? If I refer to NickN and his post on setting up FSX etc,he says to set the Bios to IDE mode for running fsx (as opposed to AHCI) when using mechanical drives.Do you thimk this is still the case? What effect would there be trying to run in IDE mode on a sata3 controller? Also can the intel drivers be used to run sata3? Sorry for a lot of questions.I,ve trawled through the net but seem to be finding more questions than answers.CheersWhiskeyBravo
  5. Thanks for the reply guys. What you've said is what I was kinda thinking.Any addons that don't need to sit with FSX would go onto the Caviar.Idahosurge. Sorry I forgot to mention my MB.It's an Asus P6X58D-E.Yes as I'm sure your aware, it uses a Marvell Controller for the sata 3. WhiskeyBravo
  6. Hi AllI carried out a new build late last year and got as far as the first boot ok.Then basically the pc has been sitting there waiting for me to spend some time installing O/S etc.I have 3 HD fitted:1.600GB Velociraptor Sata 32.300GB Velociraptor Sata 2 (from my old FS pc)3.1TB W/D Caviar Black Sata 3What do you think would be the best utilisation of these drives including Win 7 x64 and that this is a FS only pc.'As a side note i noticed that the Sata 3 drives did'nt appear in the Bios.I am new to these SATA3 drives as i now read I need to install the Marvel Drivers first. Is that correct?(i've been looking at a recent thread regards someone have problems with their drives).Any thoughts would be warmly received.WhiskeyBravo
  7. MaceThanks I'll try that. Don't worry you're not being patronising.Although I'm happy building and tinkering with my own systems I certainly wouldn't say was as happy when it comes to understanding the software side of things.I think I've already got half way with your suggestion,so I may give it another go, although yes I'll definately will be RMA'ing the drive.
  8. Cheers for the replies. I've spoken to the supplier and as the drive is still under warranty so no problems with an RMA.(It's only been in since last November and not really had much use).Incidently I downloaded the Samsung HUTIL hard drive diagnostic tool but have not been able to get it to run. You need to boot into dos preferably via a bootable floppy.I haven't got one on my system so have used a cd and tried to boot from a CD Drive but I keep getting a repeated message 'insert correct media and press any key' at the dos prompt.Just wanted to see what that program would pick up any bad sectors.I'd like to go down the route of a WD Veloci and a another drive for OS but it's pricey isn't it.
  9. Hello Firstly apologies if this subject has been flogged to death elsewhere.Basically whilst defragging with O & O (by the way make sure you have the lastest updated version before you use as I found a bug similar to Ver 10, as in the defrag takes weeks!),Windows reported a SMART error with the Hard drive.DMA Mode 5 status BAD.It suggested a back up as the drive is failing. When I ran checkdisk no fault was found. But now every time boot up the SMART error appears during POST with the option to contiue by pressing F1.Could I be getting a false report here or should I take notice? The Drive is a Samsung F1 spinpoint 750 GB and it's not really had much use but on checking the web forums it appears that there may have been some issues with the F1.I think I missed the boat when I was building the system and didn't fit a WD Velociraptor which I gather is the 'dogs danglies' for FSX.This brings up the question of putting the OS and FSX with it's addons on one drive which is what I have.Is it a big no no? If I had a 300 GB Velociraptor would that be enough space when considering a 40- 50% overhang on unused space? I've already used 150GB and would add to that as more scenery and stuff was released. If I put Vista on another drive do I need to get into RAID configurations and buying controller cards or can they just run as separate drives?Any help on this would be most appreciated.Thankswhiskeybravo
  10. Have you installed the TrafficX service pack from JF website?
  11. Hi SeanI don't have an answer sorry, but I have similar issues with Traffic X AI and also just noticed on the FSX default A320, the solid halo effect that surrounds the fuselage where the landing lights are situated really is a mess.I've contacted JF but they haven't come up with an answer yet.I may try Config as well.WhiskeyBravo
  12. Hi JohnBeat you to it,I've already downloaded but have yet to install.Look forward to trying them.thanksWhiskeyBravo
  13. Firstly, may I wish all the ex ACES staff good luck in finding alternative employment, hopefully better times will be back (wish I had a crystal ball!).In the meantime we simmers should just enjoy and fly their legacy. With that off my chest, can I draw on your experiences with any of the following as I plan to purchase a weather/environment type package (not really bothered about real time weather, but want realistic textures)FEXREXThe new Zinertek Weather FXThe Aero Files stuffAny info would be greatfully receivedRegardsWhiskeyBravo
  14. Hello.I have a question about DirectX I would like to ask.I have googled a bit but haven't found an answer ,but apologies if I've missed it. I have FSX installed on Vista64 with a GF 9800 gtx card. Now when I've looked at what version of DirectX is installed via dxdiag it says 10.Fair enough. Now if I have the DX10 preview checked I presume I,m using DX10,but what happens when I run FSX with the DX10 box unchecked? Thanks Whiskey Bravo
