  1. It's actually not accurate, or not wholly so. At least, not as a general rule, as I can't speak specifically to the constraints of the Flight engine. Just to clarify further, even in Flight, TrackIR support shouldn't limit the integration of EZdok or other head tracking devices. For example: even though our own API was only developed for use with our hardware, it should be totally possible for the Flight team to support both TrackIR AND Kinect by implementing a Kinect API in addition to the TrackIR API.
  2. This isn't an entirely accurate depiction of our past relationship with Microsoft, which was amicable from the beginning. They actually consulted with us when they were developing their Simconnect interface. It's true that some of our earliest access to games was via viewmod, but this was generally because our tech was in its infancy and our API nonexistent or in-development--not, as it sounds like you're implying, because Microsoft elected to not support TrackIR in those titles. TrackIR wasn't actually "hacked" into IL2. It was integrated via our API. But the IL2 dev team, until recently, didn't implement the full 6 DOF. There were mods that emerged from the community to open up all 6 DOF. But the core support was still implemented with our API.Regarding Flight, rest assured that we're continuing to reach out to the dev team regularly, and we've already provided them with all of the tools they need to make it happen. This is correct. We worked with the Ezdok developer to ensure that TrackIR and Ezdok would be compatible, despite the challenges that the Simconnect interface posed at that time. Suggesting that Ezdok isn't compatible with TrackIR in FSX is incorrect.
  3. Just to provide a bit of insight into the "NaturalPoint perspective":You guys are welcome to post on our forums, but we're just going to point you back to the Flight team. :) The ball is 100% in their court. We have been in contact with the Flight team for probably around 14 months. In that time, until very recently, there was never an indication that they might not implement TrackIR. They have our SDK, as well as our full technical support.Recently I received an update from one of their software developers informing me that support might not make it into the initial release. But he also indicated that they were considering expanding device compatibility in a future update. He didn't specificy when that update will be released, or what its scope would be.I've been in contact with him since then, and today reminded him that TrackIR is a staple in flight sims, and that MS Flight not including it would, in a sense, make history (in that no major flight title over the past many years hasn't included TrackIR). Just not the good kind of history. In summary: we're committed to TrackIR implementation in Flight. We've provided all of the tools necessary for it to happen. We're also more than happy to provide any necessary technical support. If any interested simmers want to influence the outcome, the best approach will be to contact the Flight team directly, and communicate the importance of TrackIR. And if you'll be witholding money until that support happens, be sure to communicate that as well. :)- Seth
  4. Agreed! We think the EZDOK product is very cool. I've already laid our constraints out a few times now, but to reiterate--we don't have any problems with your product or company. :D
  5. Hi JJ. I'm the one that you chatted with on the phone, and I did want to clarify a few things. :D It's not a matter of us not having an SDK (which we do) or not having in-house developers (which we do). Rather, FSX is the very rare exception to most TrackIR-supported games, in that it doesn't utilize our SDK. Instead, TrackIR is supported in FSX via Simconnect, like all other FSX peripherals. The problem is, if Ezdok was set up to receive head tracking data from TrackIR, but was running at the same time as FSX (which of course it would be), TrackIR has to choose between the two applications. It will always choose to pipe data into the first TrackIR Enhanced application it detects (which would be FSX). So, us offering our SDK to the Ezdok developers would not solve the problem. And, since we don't have access to the Simconnect interface or the FSX developers (which no longer exist), we can't lobby to them to assist in the development work. So, our hands are tied.My understanding is that the Ezdok developers are recommending we change our SDK/TrackIR application to enable a checkbox-like override to give special priority to their plugin. Unfortunately, we're not at a place where we're able to accomodate this kind of request. We have a long list of to-dos that we're already committed to tackling, so even if we were able to do this (which I'm not certain of, especially considering some of the heavy UI constraints within the TrackIR application), the task would be at the bottom of a long list. I explained this more in the simforums post that Vince linked above. Hi ziffel. You're obviously free to use/not use TrackIR as you see fit, and I'm not here to persuade you one way or another. :) However, the issues you're describing (needing to keep your head still, jerky movement) do not reflect ideal TrackIR behavior. You should be able to relax your head w/o worrying about excessive movement if you set up healthy dead zones. Additionally, you can reduce the sensitivity of the tracking if it catches you off guard with its speed. If you'd like help on working with your profiles, in hopes of improving your experience, you're more than welcome to inquire on our forums and we'll chip in with advice. Like with ziffel, I'm not intending to persuade you to purchase/keep a TrackIR. That's 100% your choice, either way. :) But, when set up properly (for probably 90% of users, it's fine out of the box), you should have zero issues with erratic head movements, keeping the view centered, etc. It's true that some users need a bit of guidance in how they position their camera, or maybe even editing the motion profiles a bit, but that's rare. I just don't want you or others to be dissuaded by the perception that TrackIR cannot sufficiently track your head movement with accuracy when this is not the case. Now, what you do with your hard-earned money is still your business, which we respect. :)
