  1. Martin Wilby's review of the JetProp (Mutley's Hangar) includes the statement that "The G500 brightness and auto zoom settings reset back to default each flight. However, there is a mod available on the unofficial Carenado support forum that permanently sets the brightness to 70% and the auto zoom feature to off." Is that mod still available, and if so, where is it? Thank you! JD
  2. Sounds simple. The only View I have in the Carenado a/c is virtual cockpit. I am assuming you meant to SHIFT+RIGHT CLICK on the RXP GNS 530W. That does nothing but offer different views (Cockpit, Tower, Runway, Tower, etc). I get those same options when I just RIGHT CLICK, holding SHIFT doesn't seem to make any difference. Is there some other way to get to the device settings?
  3. Jean-Luc - You said the autopilot can be set up to fly the RXP GNS530W flightplan and LPV approaches. I must have it set up wrong. My autopilot will fly a heading command, vertical speed command and will level off at a prescribed altitude, but that's it. I cannot get it to fly a Nav command (to follow the RXP 530W flightplan). Also, cannot fly an RNAV approach with the autopilot. In fact, I cannot even hand fly an RNAV approach, because the course and glideslope indicators (the "ILS" indicators) don't show up on the G500 when they should; i.e., when you've activated the approach on the RXP 530W, you're established on the final approach coarse and intercepting the glideslope from below. I have not tried flying an ILS or LOC approach. I'm hoping these things all work if set up properly. Is there something I need to do to tie link the autopilot, G500 and RXP GNS 530W together? The autopilot doesn't get any information from the RXP 530W. I am an experienced IFR pilot and fly with a RW GNS 530W in a RW Piper Malibu, and would just like to simulate something like the RW experience, if that is possible. Thank you!
  4. The Carenado JetProp comes with a GNS530/430 and G500 panel. I have replaced the native GNS530 with the RealityXP GNS530W. The G500 now displays information coming from the RXP 530W in the left (PFD) panel, but information coming from the native GNS530 in the right (MFD) panel. If, for example, I input a simple flightplan into the RXP 530W (like direct to KXYZ airport), the G500 PFD shows the appropriate course information corresponding to the current leg of the RXP 520W flightplan, but the G500 MFD displays another flightplan, specifically the flightplan that was in the native GNS530 before I replaced it. Two questions: 1. How do I get the RXP GNS530W flightplan to display on the G500 MFD? 2. Can I get the autopilot to fly the RXP GNS530W flight plan (including LPV approach)? Do I need change the Add-On selections or do I need to modify the RealityXP.GNS.ini file? Thank you for any help!
  5. I thought the purchase included both GNS530w V2 and GNS430W V2. Apparently not. In any event, I now have the GNS530W V2 working, so I'll just revert to the original GNS 430 for now.
  6. The RXPgns2.sim.dll.log says: 17/08/31 22:59:19.518 24408 - ] # rxpGnsSim32.dll version 2.3.0.0 17/08/31 23:05:11.984 24408 ERROR] invalid count for G430.1 The RXPgn2.gau.log says: 17/08/31 22:59:19.048 24408 - ] # rxpGNS2.DLL version 2.3.0.0 17/08/31 22:59:19.081 24408 INFO ] That information may be useful. Thank you, JD
  7. I ORIGINALLY POSTED THIS IN THE "RXP Flight Sim (P3D I FSX) DIRECTORY. NOW MOVED TO HERE AS MORE APPROPRIATE. I purchased RealityXP's GNS530w/430w for FSX yesterday from Flight1, downloaded the software and installed. When I launched FSX running Carenado's Piper Malibu JetProp, the Add-On for RealityXP was right there as expected and I configured that aircraft to replace the native GNS 530/430s with the RXP gauges in the panel. The Add-On window seemed intuitive and easy to use. However, after running the RXP configuration, FSX re-launched, and the original 530 (I think, because it said "GNS 530" on the upper right corner) was still in the panel and the RXP 530w was in a separate floating window (which showed "RXP 530w", I think), which showed up when I clicked on the original 530. I couldn't seem to dock the RXP 530w into the GNS 530 spot in the panel. The 430 was similar, except that I couldn't turn on the RXP 430w! Only could turn on the original GNS430. I tried reverting to the original gauges (which worked fine) and then reconfiguring. Still didn't work, and then I started getting a message that the RXP 530w I had an "Invalid License" and that I should contact "Vendor". So I completely uninstalled RealityXP's 530w/430w, and then reinstalled. Still no luck. Now it says "RealityXP Software Expired or Invalid" on the undocked RXP 530w window. Well, I tried Flight1, but they have no technical support and referred me to the Avsim Forum. As far as I could find online, there is no way to contact RealityXP itself. I would very much like get it working. Any advice would be most appreciated! Thank you, JD
  8. OK, now I see the Voice Recorder test button there on the Overhead Panel! Sometime so hard to find certain switches. Thank you, Romain! I think maybe there is an error in the FS2Crew Tutorial SOP1 Voice document on page 8. I think it should say that the PF (Captain) performs a Flight Recorder Test and then puts the Flight (not Voice) Recorder Switch back to Normal (by closing the guard). That would agree with FCOMv1, I believe. Agreed? Thanks, JD
  9. FS2Crew (and 737NGX FCOMv1 at SP.5.2 on page 208 of the pdf) call for PF to confirm that the Voice Recorder Switch is set to Normal as part of the Preliminary Pre-Flight Procedures and then to test the Voice Recorder. I can't for the life of me find the Voice Recorder Switch and the associated test switch. Can anybody help? Thanks, JD
  10. Jan - Really enjoyed the video. Nicely done. Just a couple of basic questions: Your views around the cockpit seem so effortless. Are you using TrackIR or something similar? You seem to be able to control switches, dials, etc without first putting your mouse pointer on the devise and then clicking. Are you using a switch panel? If so, what are you using? Thanks, JD
  11. Dan - Thanks. Finally got it resized and working! JD
  12. Dan - That's a great shot. Do you mind if I use it as part of a forum signature banner? Thanks, John Dixon

    PMDG 777!

Michael - Thanks for drawing my attention to the many posts re Track IR. Very helpful and informative. I was searching www.flightsimulationforums.com and couldn't find much of anything. But lots of good information right here on the Avsim Forums, as usual! I just wasn't looking in the right place.Tim - Thanks for your comments about using a joystick with two hatswitches, such as the Saitek X52. Are you using the X52 Flight Control System with separate joystick and throttle controllers? With this system, then you're saying you don't really need to go to the TrackIR system, and 3D operation become viable?I see Saitek also has a X52 Pro Flight Control System, which offers some additional interactive capability. Is that what you're using or just the X52 Flight Control System? Thanks,John

    PMDG 777!

What is so great about this forum is the information that you can pick up from others. I have particularly enjoyed the dialogue re 2D versus 3D simulation. I'm a RW pilot with 3,000+ hours in GA aircraft. I have been flying the PMDG 747 with FSX (on Vista ... arrgghhh!) for about 6 months, almost entirely in the 2D mode, and lovin' it! I'm very comfortable with the FMS and really enjoy flying the 747 with VATSIM ATC controllers (If you haven't tried VATSIM, you're missing a lot and are really in for a treat!)While I've had a lot of fun with it, I have sensed that I'm missing some of the fun and realism by operating in 2D. Unfortunately every time I try 3D I get frustrated. For example, you want to check or switch something on the PMDG 747 overhead panel or FMS in 3D: Often you have to move the view point to the right (ctrl + shift + enter), then use the joystick hat to look up or down, then use the mouse roller (or + key) to zoom in, then (finally) check and/or click the switch. Once that's done, you have to do the all the same stuff in reverse to get back to the original view. At least that's what I've been doing. Imagine doing that on final approach, flying by hand. I have known there must be easier ways to get around the 3D panel, but they were unknown to me (the FSX keystroke definitions are almost useless). Chad's mention of using the spacebar and then the mouse to look around the cabin is very helpful! Thanks, Chad! :( What about moving the view point left or right, is there a quick and easy way to do that as well? Any other tips on how to fly in the 3D environment would be greatly appreciated. It can't be as difficult as I'm making it! I'd love to see a thread or video on just that topic, flying FSX in the 3D mode. Finally, I took an online look at the Track IR device that Chad mentioned (http://www.naturalpoint.com/trackir/). Very cool. Has anyone tried it, and what do you think? Thanks,John Dixon
  15. I was having the same problem that Vic had when he started this thread. The PMDG 747 comes with a set of Company Routes (flight plans) stored in (FSX root folder)\PMDG\FLIGHTPLANS when the 747 is installed. For example, LAXORD001.rt2 is available, for a flight from Los Angeles to Chicago. All of the "canned" flight plans are *.rt2 files, not *.rte files. Also, looking in that directory, I saw *.rte (!!) files that seemed to be generated each time I manually build a flight plan in the FMC, entering each SID/STAR and waypoints to create the flight plan. You can load either the canned *rt2 files that PMDG provided with the 747 installation or the *.rte files into the FMC. BTW, you need to set Origin and Destinaton, consistent with the flightplan, before you load the flightplan or it won't work.If you download a PMG flightplan from SimRoutes.com into (FSX root folder)\PMDG\FLIGHTPLANS the down loaded file is a *.rte file. However, after downloading the flightplanfile into the correct directory, you may be frustrated to discover that the files is not in that directory, as I did. It just didn't show up.After spending a couple of hours screwing around, I discovered the problem: VISTA, as usual!!If you are running VISTA, when you think you're downloading to (FSX root folder)\PMDG\FLIGHTPLANS, you're not. VISTA will not allow you to directly save files to that directory. Instead, the files are deemed "Compatibility Files" and are saved in a "Virtual Store", not in the Program File path. Therefore when you go to look for the downloaded flight plan, you won't find it using Explore and the FMC won't find the flight plan you thought you just downloaded! VISTA stores the file in a "Virtual Store" under the AppData store in your user folder. To get to the downloaded flight plan, just turn on "Compatibility Files" in Explorer, and then copy the flightplan into (FSX root folder)\PMDG\FLIGHTPLANS, so that the FMC can get to it. You will need administrator privileges to do the copy. VISTA, aarrrggghhhh! And I'm sure Windows7 will be even better!Hopefully this will help someone else avoid the time I just spent.John Dixon
