  1. I was thinking about this... I personally run with HT on, just because some programs might get something out of it and I have a well cooled case. I've been running with AM=254 for quite a long time now, which works quite well for my system bundled with other tweaks i have. Now just yesterday I tried setting it to 84, which would be only physical cores allocated to FSX and the virtual HT cores off. Now, I got a lot more stuttering while looking around, fps was less stable and with the dash i got the jumping taxi thing that people have reported. All previous flights and flights after setting my AM back to 254 have been fine.

I was thinking that would it be possible to set FSX running on physical cores (AM=84) and have dash-8 on virtual cores? I'm sticking with AM=254 for now as it is definitely smoother for my system.

  2. I've had mine for couple of years now I think, no problem with it but strongly advice on also getting rudder pedals for it, otherwise you'll cripple your ability to maneuver quite a bit. I made the mistake of thinking i'll just fly it with autorudder and it'll be fine, well it has been gathering dust in my closet for most time. (Though that's because i have to dismount it from my table after every session due to lack of desktop space. With joystick i can just fly as it doesn't take much space) Maybe if i'd get myself rudder pedals i'd be more inclined to use it every session.  :p0502:

  3. So, now that the dust has begun to settle and people have gotten more hours in on this beautiful bird, let's share some of our favourite legs!

Mine thus far has got to be Wideroe flight WF906 from Tromso, Lagnes ENTC to Hammerfest ENHF. (Now I know wideroe operates it on Dash-8 100) Both airports available in the Airports of Norway package. B)  A bit more than 100 nm and the approach, atleast runway 23 in Hammerfest is a blast, flying quite low over the town and trees to land on this rather short rwy (880 meters/ 2,890 ft)

Another quite nice, a bit longer flight is from Toronto City Center to Quebec Jean Lesage City Airport. Nice view of the Toronto city skyline.

    Now let's hear yours!!

  4. If it was not 'rushed', then why, obviously, was more time not spent putting out a tutorial that was easy to follow without having to resort to the goodwill of others to put in the same kind of effort that ought to have been coming from the developer in the first instance?

You enjoy it, good for you. Stick with it, that's your choice.

There is a quick tutorial included with the plane, and I found it completely sufficient to follow even if it is a bit short in some parts I was able to figure what was missing on my own. Now, Majestic has said there is a much more in depth tutorial on the way, that has been finished for some time but final touches /proof reading is still required until they can release it, so ETA is few days.

Now, I wonder if you have even opened the "systems manual" included? It has more than enough information for anyone to learn the systems on the Dash-8 very well, and after most parts there's even green box "NORMAL OPERATION" which tells you how to use it in, surprise, normal operation.

There is no need to resort to the goodwill of others, but that is how it goes nowadays. There's either too much information included in one PDF and too little in the other.  (quick search in the manual takes you to the part that you usually are looking for and from there on you can educate yourself quite well without having to resort to asking on the forums)

I guess where I'm trying to get at is that Majestic does provide all the information you need to fly this bird without having to read thousands of pages of systems that you wont really need to understand how to fly the bird. The current documentation provided with the plane isn't that rushed, but I do admit that it isn't suited for most entry-level simmers. (with addition of a well pictured, step by step flight I think even the most casual simmer can learn it, but will they?)

Sorry if I sound a bit blunt and I don't mean to be aggressive, but I wanted to make it clear that there is enough documentation to learn the plane without very detailed tutorial if you ARE patient.

  5. I don't know if how I'm using VNAV is at all correct, but I got it to calculate TOD and get to descent when it reaches TOD automatically (albeit sometimes it was bout 500 meters too high when reaching a waypoint that would be for example 11000 ft or below)

What did it for me was to press the TO button to highlight it (doesn't matter what WP there is...), select the WP that would have an altitude restriction / you want to cross at altitude you want, then press enter, twice (don't know what to put for the displacement or what that does..) then the cursor is at the altitude marker, and insert desired altitude e.g 11000 ft and press enter twice (2nd would be to edit the V/S i guess but i've just gone with the 1800ft/min.

Now looking at manuals i see that it is explained in the FMS quick reference card.pdf

VNAV| cursor to TO| select WPT number from the list| ENTER| enter
displacement if required| ENTER| enter the crossing altitude in feet (if not
yet present)| ENTER| enter the desired Vertical Speed| ENTER to activate
2 minutes prior to reaching the TOD, arm the VNAV on the AFCS panel, please
note LNAV must be active for VNAV to engage and the altitude selector must
be set lower than the current altitude

And when approaching TOD like the quote says i reduce my ALT selection, arm VNAV (you have to be less than 2 minutes from TOD to arm it) and it will automatically descend when crossing TOD.

  6. I had the same experience too, well, before orbx's PNW I was randomly flying tubeliners and GA in europe, not really too into the stuff (i guess i was too young to really learn Leonardo Maddog back then :P ) then with PNW i started to really fly GA and enjoying the scenery, now after NGX was released i've found myself lean more towards tubeliners fulltime, with 1-2 GA flights in the mix. But i don't have my FTX stuff installed on my FSX right now, i want it to be just for tubeliners and for that UTX + GEX and airport addons do just fine!

  7. Which specific photoscenery should be used around EFHK ?

    Looks nice

Sorry, ofcourse people who are not so familiar with Finnish geography might find it hard to know where those photosceneries are.. Anyways, for Helsinki there are Espoo, Helsinki, Vantaa, Hyvinkää-Tuusula, Itä-Helsinki-Järvenpää-Kerava and Nurmijärvi.

  8. This was actually a test flight, i was tweaking my settings to get smooth fps around Helsinki in NGX and GA aircraft, got my fps smooth at 30 and decided to turn on opusfsx for a little sightseeing flight... Amazing.

Finnish winter weather at it's finest, about -5c, sun is shining and couple of clouds in the distance. Very typical for February. :)

The FS9 photosceneries work wonderfully with FSX, they cover most of the helsinki area. Great addition and look wonderful especially when approaching EFHK with a jetliner. Only bad part is that because of the old tech they disable the frozen waters in the area that FinlandX adds but still the photoscenery is worth keeping! (listed here http://www.freewarescenery.com/fsx/finland.html)

  9. I used to use ENBseries, nowadays when the FSX menu opens it just crashes with D3D9.dll error, googling around it's apparently due to newer drivers, which I always install. So I gave up on enbseries since i'd rather have up-to-date graphics card drivers than enbseries. Lately i've tried sweetFX out of curiosity, at first I wasn't going to since it uses same D3D9.dll to inject the bloom and other nice features... But for some weird reason, sweetFX works! I dunno how that's possible, guess it's a newer version of the .dll file or something but i'm happy.

Just dropped the sweetFX files into fsx main folder and that's it. By default the sweetFX effects were quite unnoticeable to my eyes, since it had pretty much everything disabled but AA. Had to go disable the AA and enable HDR to really see the effect, and then start tweaking it.

  10. I also think that the key to getting more data into OSM is the opensource -part of it. If we can somehow make the public more informed about openstreetmap and get more people involved in creating the data, it will become exponentially faster. like Andras said there are quite a few other communities that take benefit of openstreetmaps data and the data is not only significant for simmers.

Besides... Basic building data can be done REALLY fast, just draw boxes... :P Or data like forests etc. Making a contribution for an hour or two might not seem quite significant, but when you have a lot of people doing the same, the end result can become quite magnificent.

  11. Greetings, Kim. Thanks for sharing! I haven't purchased the Helsinki airport yet, but I will probably once Beta 20 goes stable. It does look great from what I've seen, and Truescenery definitely deserves the support.

Definitely. They got lot of projects planned, I heard they have a flying school contract to make multiple Finnish airports in their outstanding quality, I can't be happier. :) Also after the few finnish airports they are planning to spread to other european countries, but i guess its too early to say yet where. Anyways Tampere-Pirkkala is looking great and it has nice connections to Europe with Ryanair flying there quite frequently, so that is another must-buy for me.

Oh and the Helsinki orthophoto definitely doesn't require their airport, it looks great even without it.

  12. http://truscenery.wo...i-orthoscenery/

There's a magnificient orthophoto + OSM data for Helsinki (+ whole of Finland, the data isnt that accurate for rest of finland tho, maybe major cities.) to complement Truscenery's amazing Helsinki-Malmi airport.

Sorry I don't have any pictures to post, but there's couple on the download page. I formatted my PC when i added a SSD and lost the pictures i had taken whit my old x-plane installation. Only picture of the OSM data i have is of Turku ( City I live in) with the OSM data and a FS9 photoscenery converted for X-plane.

    DWbB7c6.jpg

I also have planned to make some of the finnish cities/ airports with orthophoto and OSM data with the freeware orthophotos provided by finnish government. AFAIK it's the same source Truscenery used for their Helsinki orthophoto :)

  13. Since you guys were talking about FSX's poor performance and CTD's etc. ( we all know the problems FSX sadly has) I realised what I truly like about XPX. It's so easy to setup! ( sounds crazy i know what with people yelling that they can't even set their keybinds with xplane's "difficult UI") But to be honest, I love the fact that the rendering settings menu is all there is to it. Just set it up, check that you get smooth framerates and off you go! Don't have to fiddle with .cfg tweaks that are unique to every system, no CTD's due to old coding and overall just very fluid experience from the start. I can really concentrate on flying and also on some scenery development on the side, aswell. (Which BTW, is also alot easier with X-plane's tools  )

  14. compare that with the Aerosoft product page : http://www.aerosoft....213631750,11177

Just as an example a quote : "The Fly-By-Wire flight model is totally reliable and extremely close to the actual aircraft."

You know the FBW was just the FSX default stuff, which is far away from close to the actual aircraft.

However, regarding the Airbus X Extended, it would be great, if the end product can stand the announcements.

The web page also says "Directly aimed at the user who likes to fly and not to spend too much time on configuration and pre-flight checks but who does not want to compromise on the modelling and features, this aircraft will appeal to a large group of flight simmers." Right in the beginning of second paragraph.

I didn't get the first Airbus due to it being just default A321 with updated models and vc, (roughly put, ofc there were improvements but you know that i mean) I already had wilco airbus which i regret since it just doesn't work when you try to simulate real life operations. But if airbus x extended will simulate "what the captain does in an airplane" as well as ngx in regards to programming FMS, flight model, i surely will buy it.

  15. Well, you can tune ezdok extensively between making it look like there's an earthquake and a small bump here and there. Due to this i like it with my pmdg and touchdown you can really feel how hard you landed. On ground it's quite minor, but yeah you can edit the strenght of shake effects to your own liking, It can be a bit hard to figure out, but there's a manual which should cover it pretty well.

Personally i just downloaded AoA's NGX ezdok file and made minor changes to the cameras, but the shake effects are pretty good there. (well, they're not overdone atleast)

  16. They said they had to rush DX10 out as preview for SP2, so i would guess they'd release full DX10 support with SP3, and judging by the preview it is quite nice FPS increase.

Would've been nice if MS had continued supporting FSX, but oh well. Or i would've preferred them taking more time and developing a completely new up-to-date engine instead of band-aiding the engine dating back to like 90'

  17. If i understood correctly, problem is that boeing supplied the manuals, Nyxx's checklist is compiled of the boeing manual, and it's not allowed to distribute even pieces of boeing manual for free? If it was just for the fact that QRH includes one already, that could be notified on the topic, without the need to delete the whole thread about it. Just trying to wrap this "conflict".
