I've just done a couple of flights in the PMDG 737NGX over Southern England Horizon Scenery - Slightly lower FPS especially in heavier clouds but still very smooth with sharp visuals no blurries. The only problem now is the rapid onset of OOMS because of the high graphics settings especially when flying over or near London ( I might have to uninstall the VFR London package)

Just to report back, I've been using 4084 with excellent results.
-
A week ago I upgraded my PC with an MSI X99s SLI plus, I7 5820 @ 3.30GHz, 16GB DDR4 2400Mhz and an M.2 SATA SSD. I haven't explored a wide range of scenarios so far but my test flights have been reasonably demanding - MJ Dash 8, REX textures, ASN, Horizon, Earth Simulations IoM and Guernsey, Megascenery Earth Photoscenery, and UK2000 and Aerosoft Airports. FSX is on a dedicated SSD.
Running at stock and with FSX scenery settings at or near Max, AI aircraft at 20% the results have been extremely impressive. FPS has been high teens to high 20s and always supersmooth. Scenery loads quickly (LOD set at 8.0) with no trace of blurring.
Following advice in another thread I have set AF at 4084 (HT on) which gives the following core activity as per Task Manager - Cores 0, 1 and 3 =variable activity; Cores 2 and 4- 11 = max when over land scenery.
More demanding testing is planned particularly with PMDG aircraft and stormy weather conditions but so far I have not felt any need to overclock or even fire up Fiber Accelerator

Many thanks. I'll try them both.

I have an MSI X99/ Intel 5820 combo on its way and would like some advice on the best AM to put in the CFG.
Also would it be better to have HT on or off?
I'm using W7 64 and have about 450GB of mainly photoscenery add ons.
-
Anybody struggling with the full UK2000 version might find the FREE version more FPS friendly. It is far less detailed of course but has the essentials ie correct runways, taxiways and major buildings. It works well with my ancient i7 920 2.2.
-
Is it known what benefits the update might bring? I think it was hinted awhile ago that there might be some real time LOD manipulation.
-
You might also want to consider installing an SSD rather than (or in addition to) an HDD to reduce loading times
-
Or wait until it's available on Steam. Then you won't have to mess around with CDs.
-
I intend to upgrade my MB and CPU and currently have FSX installed on a dedicated SSD
After installing the new MB And CPU and reinstalling W7 on a different SSD, will I be able to avoid having to reinstall FSX (and 400GB of addons) by running the FS Registry Repair utility which, If I understand it correctly, reinstalls the FSX registry links.
-
I'm seriously considering upgrading to this CPU/MB combo.
Please keep us updated on how it performs when it's all properly tweaked and set up.

Answered in the 737NGX section. Apparently not yet available as a standalone to non 777 owners.
-
We'll see. Don't forget that the 737 was released 3 years ago and is therefore a relatively old piece of software.
And I can't see that it will make much commercial sense to PMDG to release free of charge an update that has taken a ton of resources to develop.
-
Perhaps it won't be an update but a new version (as per the anticipated 747 V2) incorporating all the whistles and bells of the 777
-
FSX Fiber Accelerator will probably do the trick. Try the latest demo version (5 x 60 minute sessions) but be sure to read the manual beforehand
-
I don't have the 777 only the 737 and J41 which is why I was wondering about a standalone download rather than one that comes bundled the the 777 update.
-
Is it now available as a standalone download for use with the 737NGX and J41?
-
That depends on so many variables - hardware and software
Try the demo - 5 x 60 minute sessions will give you ample opportunity to try a variety of scenarios.
Make sure you read the manual first though

RE Post 439:
The flight over Orbx Ireland was very successful - smooth graphics with little blurring.
Suitably encouraged I decided to try another flight over photographic scenery in the PMDG 737NGX - EGKK to EGPK with ASN and Texture Direct. After some experimentation I settled on 15/40 FPS limits
The view from inside the cockpit had some landscape blurring but nowhere as severe as on my first flight. Switching to an external view, the landscape became perfectly sharp over a few minutes as the graph bars gradually moved over to the right.
Switching back to an internal view resulted, as expected, in some blurring of the landscape but throughout the graphics were very smooth apart from a very occasional stutter.
On a couple of occasions the screen flashed and the sim paused - events which usually precede an OOM crash. With Fiber running though, normal service was resumed after about 2 seconds
I also experimented using a less complex aircraft and had perfect smoothness and graphics. My ageing i7 920 is clearly struggling with PMDG complexities.
I was convinced and so, Reader, I bought it.

What not just download the demo and try it for yourself?
Nobody else can answer your question as it all depends on your hardware, settings and the aircraft that you fly.

I've just completed a test flight in a PMDG 737NGX from EGCC to EHAM over Horizon and NL2000 Photographic Scenery - al in all a fairly tough challenge for any system.
I did get slightly better (4-5) FPS and improved smoothness but at the cost of losing all detail in the landscape scenery - it was just a largely undifferentiated blur.
However, on the approach to EHAM the allotted 60 minutes expired, FA shut down and INSTANTLY FSX crashed with an OOM so clearly FA is doing a good job in preventing that particular problem.
The next test will be a flight across Ireland where I have Orbx scenery installed.

I use the CH Throttle Quadrant with the Dash and PMDGs and several other aircraft. It is a versatile and reliable piece of kit and is compatible with all versions of Windows.
-
Well we are now 9 months further on - has there been any progress in rolling the Operations Centre out to other PMDG products?
-
Looks ideal for switching between camera views in EZdok.
To SSD or not?

Having the OS and FSX installed on one or more SSDs makes a considerable difference to OS and FSX system loading times but has little benefit when FSX is running as regards FPS.
SSDs are now reasonably priced so it isn't as big a leap as perhaps it was two years ago. If you are building from scratch you might want to consider an M.2 SATA or PCIe SSD. These slot directly onto a compatible Motherboard and don't need a separate power lead or SATA port.
