  1. Hi: I just spent a bunch of time and money tweaking my computer for FSX, and its running great. I am also now learning how certain sceneries just slow things down. Orbx, Tongass Fords, and anything from Flytampa runs smoothly, but I have several sceneries from an other manufacturer (whose name I will not mention) that I purchased before I became "enlightened" that seem to bog down. From what I can see from posts in this forum, it is because this manufacturer does not "mipmap" its files. Here's my question. What is a mipmap and an alpha channel? Should all texture files have these? Is there anything else a properly formated texture needs to have? Is there software that will allow me to do a batch analysis of texture files, and tell me what I am missing, and then how can I add the missing attributes without having to go through each of thousands of texture files? I am a good reader and a quick study, so if someone can recommend a source where I can read up these topics, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Mike Gutierrez. North Hollywood, California.
  2. I'm having problems installing Imagetool in on Window7, 64 bit. When I try to install, I get a message stating that it is incompatible with the 64 bit version of Windows 7. Any idea as to how to resolve this. Mike Gutierrez. North Hollywood, California
  3. If any one knows, the directions for the B747-8 tell you to use the configuration manager to fly the 747-8, but can you use the 747-400 load manager to load the 747-8? Thanks. Mike Gutierrez. North Hollywood, California.
  4. Hi All:Can anyone direct me to where I have find an answer to an occasional problem with "see through" ai aircraft. Once in a while, I will see the outline of a translucent AI aircraft, but as I get closer to the plane, the paint job appears and the plane looks normal. Also, I have also noticed that I will once in while see a plane with a silver like sheen when viewed from afar. I can see the paint job under the silvery sheen when I get close to the plane, but the sheen is still there. I have solved this before by installing another version of the plane, but now I have the problem with an Aeroflot-North B737-500, and I can't find other paint jobs for this aircraft other than the one which is installed. I have turned off DX10, and aircraft shadows, and as I noted, it does not affect all the AI traffic, only certain planes. Any help would be appreciated.
  5. Earlier today I posted a cry for help about losing all of my AI Traffic. I tried every suggestion I could find in this forum, but nothing. I found the problem. One A320 too many. I was setting up a traffic file for Seagle airlines last night, and I guess as I was closing out the Aircraft.cfg file for the DJC A320, I must have accidently pressed a mouse button so that an entry for a Seagle A320 was copied before the first aircraft [fltsim.0] on the list. Since there were over 220 different variations of A320 in the file, every A320 was wiped out, which in turn caused me to lose all the AI Traffic. So a word to the wise (or the careless like me).
  6. If anyone has any idea why my AI traffic would disappear, I would greatly appreciate some help. I checked the forums, and all my shadows (on ground and on aircraft) are disabled. DX10 is unchecked. I ran AI Planner, and looked for FS9 files (I found two out of about 500 or 600 AI files) and converted them. I ran AIT Rep and AIT Mod to check the aircraft files and fixed them but no luck. All was fine last night. Today, I came home and purchased the Real Air Beech Duke, installed it, but then noticed the airport was empty when I took off. I checked other airports, and no traffic. I dread having to start from scratch, so if anyone has any ideas, I would welcome your comments. I have a i7 system, 6 Gb Ram, two GTX-295 video cards, and Creative x-fi titanium sound card. Thanks.
  7. I am looking for information about how FSX (acceleration) deals with glass. I saw one recently, and now I can't find it. I have an FS9 aircraft that I want to use in FSX (JU-52 by Oliver Fischer), but the glass looks like its been left out in a year-long dust storm without cleaning. Any suggestions as to where I might find information about how to fix this. Thanks.

  9. Hi all:I've been in the process of building a new computer and reinstalling my old FSX stuff, as well as new packages. I put together a system with an ASUS revolution motherboard, i7-920 CPU and two EVGA GTX video cards in SLI configuration. I want to learn how to tweak the video card settings, as well as the FSX settings to get the best performance. Can anyone suggest a place where I might find this information, or a software package, free or pay ware, that will help diagnose and reconfigure my settings.
  10. I have a strange problem with AI aircraft texture disappearing. I first noticed it while taxiing in Auckland, NZ airport. The larger parked aircraft (747, etc.) had their textures, but the smaller parked planes (B1900D, Dash 8-300) had the model outlines with no texture. Then, in Rome Fiumicino, there was an Air France Regional ERJ145 (evolveai) with its textures in tact, but they disappeared, leaving only the model shape one it began taxiing. I looked around the airport, and noticed that all of the parked AI planes had the proper textures, but there was a line of blank models (w/o textures) taxing toward the runway.I installed a second GTX295 card in my computer to run in SLI mode. Could this have something to do with it?Any help would be appreciated.Mike
