  1. I tried to let Active Sky download the current weather conditions then once it has done this I could disconect from the internet and turned off the virus checker. This worked fine for the first 15mins, but then FSX minimised and I jumped back to the desktop because ASA had popped up a message saying that it was "going to run in offline mode because there is no internet connection." Unfortunatly FSX always crashes on my PC when ever it tries to minimise. Is there any way to get ASA to download the current weather conditions and then run in offline mode once it has done that?
  2. I currently use Kepersky which seems to have a small impact on framerates. Does Nod32 work on a 64bit orerating system?
  3. I just wanted to turn of the virus checker to help get a couple of extra frames per second.I would like to stay conected to the internet so that I can use Active Sky with real world weather. Maybe a fair compromise would be to let Active Sky download the current weather conditions then once it has done that I could disconect from the internet and turn off the virus checker.
  4. Hello,Is it safe to turn my virus checker off while using FSX?
  5. Thanks for the head up. I've been looking for a good FSX book.
  6. Wow. What a big response. Thanks for sharing your views everyone. I've just bought FTX PNW and it should be delivered in the next couple of days. All I have to do now is work out how to pay the rent this week...The mountain area just north of Vancouver is one favourite areas to fly, especially with Active Sky set to real weather - often when the clouds are very very low the valleys are like tunnels. Also (sorry but this is off topic) I've just bought a new Cessna Mustang from Flight 1. 7. Great thanks everyone.44 Euros isn't too bad (call me old fashioned but I like the CD boxes), I think I'll get it soon.On the Orbx site they say it's compatible with UTX, I take it there are no compatibility problems with GEX either?
  8. Hello,I'm considering getting FTX Pacific North West but have been put off by the high price tag. 55 Euros is a lot of money for a product that only covers a relatively small area. I already own UTX/GEX USA and Canada which together with FS Global 2010 mesh gives great results that I'm very happy with.I already have FTX Australia which I consider to be as good but not better than UTX/GEX. I've been looking at the videos of FTX PNW though and it looks like the best FSX scenery yet, even better than FTX AU or UTX/GEX. The question is - is it a big enough improvement over UTX/GEX/FS Global to be worth spending 55 Euros?
  9. Great. That's fixed the problem. Thanks a lot for your help.
  10. I installed UTX from the CD version which is already updated to 1.1 (I think).Since then I have updated UTX to 1.31.
  11. Does anyone know what has caused the water level at Saltern Lake to do this? I use FS Global 2010 but the water level in lakes is OK everywhere else.
  12. Hello,I've read on another forum that HiFI say they improved the program for accuracy and sensitivity to certain payware aircraft. Does this include Wilco's Tilt Rotor?
  13. In FSX about once every couple of minutes some of the clouds flash off for a fraction of a second. They don't flicker or anything like that they simply disappear for about half a second then reappear again. Also, I don't know if this is related but occasionally a bit of the ground texture (a 1024x1024 square tile I think) turn white for half a second then reappear. This is not a problem with ASA because it still happens even when ASA isn't running.
  14. I don't think its a Windows 7 problem. I have FSX Delux with Acceleration installed and the missions work fine for me.
  15. I think that 2GB would definitely be worthwhile.
  16. Has anyone ever tried FSX on the minimum specs? If you turned everything down to minimum would it even be able to have frame rates in double figures? To 7snoopy7 - With respect to your PC specification, it will never be able to run FSX well. Your best bet would be to install Flight Simulator 2004 instead and save FSX until you buy a new PC.
  17. I can only just tell the difference between 24 and 30 FPS and even then it's only noticeable when I turn my head front side to side.I have FSX set-up so that it runs at a near constant 30FPS (limited) for 99% of the time but if the frame rate ever drops below 20FPS it's time to turn the graphics down a bit. When using ASA thick heavy overcast storm clouds will occasionally knock the frame rate down into the teens but this is very rare.
  18. Yep, Pilot heat sorted the problem (Shift + H).Cheers.
  19. The speed guage intermitantly stops working. It will work fine for about 5-10 minutes then it will show the aircrafts speed reading as 0 knots. Then after showing no speed readout for 5-10 minutes it will suddenly start working again. It keeps doing this continuously every 5-10minutes and it happens in all of the planes both standard and add on ones.Any ideas what could be causing this? Could it have anything to do with FSUIPC ?
  20. Great, thanks for your help everyone.I've decided to go for Ultimate Traffic 2 because I already have many Flight 1 add ons which I'm happy with and there are some good reviews for it.
  21. Have you considered the EH-101 Helicopter that comes with the FSX Acceleration pack? It flys as fast as the SF260, it's more stable than the standard FSX helicopters and has better visability than any other aircraft I've tried (except for the microlite).
  22. If you would like to try something a bit different you could consider the Bell 609 Tilt Rotor by Wilco. It's great for bush flying because it's capable of both VTOL (vertical take off and landing) and STOL (short take off and landing). It's good for sight seeing too because it has good visibility and you can easily fly at any speed from a stationary hover to speeds over 300knots. Just remember to use the low detail virtual cockpit setting in FSX - it looks identical to the high detail virtual cockpit but will run at much higher frame rates.Watch the YouTube video here: www.wilcopub.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=prod_tiltrotor p.s. The RealAir FS260 is my favourite plane too.
  23. Hello,I'm considering getting an AI traffic program for FSX and would appreciate any comments on which is best and why. I've read some reviews but would like to know how they compare. Has anyone tried them? What do you think? Many thanks in advance.
  24. Problem solved. See here:www.simforums.com/forums/forum_posts.asp?TID=33690&PN=1
