Wow, thanks everyone for the fast response. I suspected that Acceleration might have been the cause, but given the recent release of the addon, I thought that no one was still using FSX without Acceleration. The issue now is that I can't use ADE without the SDK, which didn't come with the Steam Edition. I have an old copy of FSX Gold sitting in some old box in the garage, but IIRC you can't simply pull the files off the CD, so I'd have to do a totally new FSX install just to get the SDK files... not doing that. Perhaps someone with the SDK could kindly make the edits (with the author's permission of course) or failing that, getting in touch with the author and having him do it.

Was browsing freeware addons the other day, and found Matthew Derr's new KABQ scenery, just updated back in January. How great is this! I've always thought that KABQ should get the payware treatment, but this is nearly as good.. Anyway. soo I install, and what do I find? The ugly default terminal building clipping through the new beautiful terminal. Everything else was as it should be, no extra control tower, no runways sitting underneath or just above; even the jetways and AI parking were in the right spots, but that terminal building was there like a monolith. Knowing that stuff like this is typically caused by other .bgl files, I dutifully go about looking for duplicates. I deleted the KABQ.bgl file from MyTraffic, and searched the rest of my FSX install for others. All I found were ABP_KABQ.bgl, AEC_KABQ.bgl, and APT_KABQ.bgl, all of which are related to FTX_Vector and have to do with leveling terrain. Just to try it out, I disabled them, and found that the terrain went bonkers, with huge hills on the runways, and...you guessed it, the default terminal still sitting there, clipping through in all it's gray monolithic glory. SO, with only one KABQ .bgl file loaded (other than default) I am still getting the default terminal. I spent nearly 8 hours combing through forums, looking for information, finding that UTX moved a few airports around, so I checked, and found that KABQ was not among them. I disabled ALL of my addon scenery, save for Matthew Derr's KABQ scenery, and still got default buildings... Only after going for broke, and disabling "202 Base" scenery, did the default terminal disappear. Unfortunately, 202 base affects a lot more than just KABQ, so that is not a realistic option. Any ideas? I'm about to pull my hair out over this, and have tried pretty much all of the typical stuff. Specs/Addons (that might affect KABQ) FSX-SE UTX-USA 2.1 FTX Global FTX Vector MTX Cliffs: KABQ addon displaying default terminal, tried a ton of stuff but still can't fix. Help please.

Just on a hunch, I tried disabling UTX and flying with just OrbX and Vector.. No lag spikes at all. So I cranked up the sliders to the highest, max autogen, traffic, etc.. and still ginned along with a steady locked 30 fps and no lag spikes. I'm not sure if UTX was the sole culprit, or just the straw that broke the camel's back, but FSX is smooth as glass now. This is good, but disappointing as well.. because I love UTX, and ran it (medium sliders) with no problems back when I had a GTX 285, and no overclock. How is the performance for UTX 2.0? I can get it for 15 bucks, so it may be worth a try regardless, I just hope it dances well with Vector.

Ok.. still at wits end here.. Tried removing multisampling..problem remains Tried the WhatisHang program and only thing showing was fsx.exe The lag spikes seems to occur when the game has to load some terrain, hence why it doesn't happen on the ground, and jets get this faster than props...moving faster tend to do that... So I tried bumping up TextureMaxLoad, and the Bandwidth_Multiplier to try to force it to load it faster.. it helped.. but gave me stutters rather than smooth FPS with random big spikes.. no good So.. I bit the redpill and figured that my system just wasn't up to snuff.. so I started taking down the sliders.. lowering texture res, mesh complexity, water, etc. incrementally to see if I could make it go away... no dice; even after I bottomed out the sliders, it still occurred. This is bittersweet because one one hand, I know I can run the sim on basically any setting with good FPS, but bad because after all my tests, I still get lag spikes... I guess I could uninstall FTX Vector, and UTX...but at that point, why even play FSX? If I want to fly over crappy terrain, I'd fly with FS9...

Thanks for the replies. Turns out I did have multisampling AA on, so that is now off. I always did run at 1/2 Vsync to stop screen tearing. Still doing some experimenting, and trying out the WhatisHang prog, will update soon.

Ok, I've about come to my wits end regarding this. Here is my situation; I will load up a flight, can be the NGX, or pretty much anything short of the default ultralight and everything will be fine on the ground; good steady (locked at 30 with) FPS, no problems... Once I take off, within a minute or two I will get a lag spike, no warning, no FPS drops, the sim will just freeze.. sound still working, and after about 1-1.5 seconds it will go back to working... any control inputs I make when frozen, will be applied during that time, so the plane will "warp" to where it should be if it hadn't been frozen for that brief moment. These lag spikes will then continue, at any altitude, at complete random, until I land. After landing, they stop. I've tried searching every forum, and have tried every tweak from the well known (bufferpools=0, affinitymask=84, etc.) to the obscure (disabling multimedia class scheduler.) I've tried DX9, and DX10 (w/ Fixer) with the same results.. nothing helps at all. Disabling AI traffic makes no difference, lowering sliders (autogen, etc) doesn't help either, disabling scenery areas, ditto.. always the same problem, no matter what. (No, it is NOT FSUIPC Autosave, or Timesync) I'm close to nuking my whole install and rebuilding from the ground up, but I figured I would ask the community for help in case there is one little setting or known issue that I'm overlooking. My system is not top of the line anymore (i7 OC'd to 3.8, and GTX 960) but it gets the job done very well, aside from this particular problem. Any help or advice is appreciated.. thanks. Ah yes; the bad attitude you get from the controllers. It definitely gives you more incentive to fly a perfect flight than the default ATC that I mostly ignored. When they are telling you to drop 5000 feet AND get it below 230 kts, AND turn a heading; all the while, you are trying to get your checklists done and nav radios tuned in, double checking your approach plates. By the time you make it to the ground, its a relief!The way I see it: If I've gotten FSX to the point that it feels like a tedious job, and not a video game; I have finally set it up the right way!
