    6) You can live with the fact that you will not see distant weather fronts anymore (as in MSFS default), because AS injects globally

Well tbh with TS being broken / absent in MSFS default live weather, I dont care much about that. Also, when running AS in passive mode it still should work....right now, this is the way to go for me.

Slow updates, but nowhere near abandoned.

Currently on Technical Update 7.0 - Public Beta 3

All nice. The deal breaker with REX for me was the messed up wind injection (affecting active runway selection) on the ground. I contacted them and they say there will never be a fix for it.

  3. Had an AS app crash today (happens). Tried to restart it, but wind depiction was stuck at 270/01. MSFS live weather only also was stuck at the same wind. Only way to fix it is sim restart. There seems to be something slightly wrong with the connection module...

Is anyone out there able to do a side-by-side comparison with REX Weather Force (which is what I'm currently using)?

I got REX and stopped using it, mostly because it fails to accurrately inject surface wind at the beginning of a flight before taking off and therefore messing up active runways. AS doesnt have this issue as far as I can tell. Apart from that, the AS weather engine should be naturally superior in covering areas without a METAR provided nearby, where REX fails to do so. REX feels a bit abandoned by the devs now imho.

I am currently still playing around with it. In SKBO right now there is "light rain" and 13 degrees celsius reported but in active preset mode it is snowing there 😂Well, there will be updates.....

EDIT: the snow in colombia and 1kt of wind coming from 360 degrees looks similar to the injection issue on the ground that REX has. But in difference to REX It only happens -sometimes- as far as I can tell. If so, its necessary to switch to passive depiction to fix. Not a big deal.

You should deactive RealTurb, since you cannot turn on terrain turbulence only and will therefore have cumulated wind turbulence. I've already emailed him though so he updates it and enables the use of *only* terrain turbulence.

Ok, in the settings you could in theory set all other turbulences to 0% intensity except terrain turbulence. could have thought about that myself actually....

  6. AS working fine for me, together with flow. Still experimenting with both live weather modes.

But, my question remains: what about the turbulence additions by other apps, FSRealTurb CAT and the low alt turbulence options of FSRealistic. I used both. What should i better deactivate now? Are there any known conflicts?

  7. Shortly because I left for 2 weeks I recieved the famous "please insert the MSFS disc" message on startup. I was hoping for this issue to be gone when I get back.
Now i get "your data cannot be synced with the cloud" on startup. I can play offline if i want to but nothing will get saved in that mode.
I checked for updates in MS store and xbox live but still no change.

Anything I can do about that? Is there currently a server outage at MS?

    EDIT: nevermind, its gone.

So are my settings anyways. love it.

Use TAA and turn up render scaling to 120.  Max AF and Max AA.

This will provide the best visuals in DX11 or DX12 at the expense of some performance.

DX12 seems to use more VRAM, though if you only have a 1080 monitor you won't be taxing your videocard at all.

Pretty much everyone is CPU limited in MSFS whatever settings we seem to use.

I dont know, I dont like TAA as it gives strong shimmering on light poles and some addons terminal building textures even when the image is standing still (if anyone has LatinVFR LEMD, you will immediately see what i mean).

Yep, I was wrong. I stand corrected: there DLSS in DX11 😁

It's strange you get better performance, while my settings are more conservative. These are my FSLTL settings:

Max Active IFR Aircraft (0=disabled): 8
Max Active VFR Aircraft (0=disabled): 3
Additional Airline Parked Aircraft (0=disabled / 10=max): 8 (max of 70 aircraft per airport)
Additional GA Parked Aircraft (0=disabled / 10=max): 8 (max of 20 aircraft per airport)
Max Radius to Inject Airborne Aircraft (25-150km): 40
Max Radius to Inject Ground Aircraft (10-150km): 20

I use AutoLOD, and set a minimum TLOD of 70, which I use for ground and landing.

Thats really strange, are you sure your hardware settings and drivers are ok? Also turn AF off in MSFS and enable it via nvidia inspector, it helps a bit.

I thought it was backwards. I'll check tonight. I hope I'm wrong.

It's something you don't need 😉 I mean, since you have a 4060 Ti, you can enable the actual Frame Generation with no mods at all, as everyone with a RTX 40 Series. Those with RTX 30 Series or earlier didn't have any option until last December, that someone released a mod enabling FG. However, it comes with some artifacts that I'm willing to put up with.

Which traffic and how many? With FSLTL and default enhanced EDDF, I rarely get 30. If I manage to do so, it's with a lot of stutters. You already saw we have the same resolution, RAM and CPU.

Dont worry, FG is available by default but also causes woes with my card. 😁

Your system is roughly comparable to mine except for the GPU. You should be able to get the same results. This is what i put into FSLTL:

    20:09:40   Max Active IFR Aircraft (0=disabled): 100
    20:09:40   Max Active VFR Aircraft (0=disabled): 20
20:09:40   Additional Airline Parked Aircraft (0=disabled / 10=max): 2 (max of 50 aircraft per airport) (since otherwise it gives me strange liveries on some airports)
20:09:40   Additional GA Parked Aircraft (0=disabled / 10=max): 2 (max of 20 aircraft per airport)
20:09:40   Max Radius to Inject Airborne Aircraft (25-150km): 125
20:09:40   Max Radius to Inject Ground Aircraft (10-150km): 50

Also whats your Terrain LOD setting? I have mine at 200.

How many FPS you get with the 4060Ti? It's hard to me to justify the switch to a 4060 (downgrade) or 4060Ti (too expensive). After getting the FG mod (and using Noel's RTSS Front Edge Sync method for locking FPS), I can no longer stand 30 FPS (at least not until I can finally disable custom camera transitions).

Also, how did you manage to enable DLSS in DX11? I thought it was a DX12-exclusive feature.

I am usually getting between min. 30FPS (frankfurt with addon airport, city and traffic) and 60 (in the air etc.). However, I am almost always limited by main thread so the 4060ti could deliver even more if my 5600x (and yours too) would let it. Its still fine by me, what I cant stand is blurriness and TAA (since it gives heavy shimmering to static objects).

DLSS is available in DX11 all the time already. AMD FSR is only available in DX12 and FG also is.

Whats the FG mod? I am willing to experiment more. 😉

  11. Hello,

so i recently got a 4060ti with 16GB of RAM and I can really recomment this as a budget option for MSFS. While reviews claim that the difference between the 8GB and 16GB cards are not worth the extra price, this is not true when using MSFS, as on almost max-settings it uses around 12GB of VRAM and as long as there is some headroom, it will run smoothly.

My system is a 5600x, 32GB of RAM and the said ASUS 4060ti. So its kind of mid level, but for 1080p gaming works perfectly for me.

As all of you know, nvidia DLSS tends to makes images blurry. To counter that, it has to be combined with DSR which, on the other hand, eats up FPS and VRAM. However, there is a tweak that can be applied in the UserCfg.opt file (located in ....C:\Users\-username-\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache). So here is what I was doing using TAA on my old GTX970 before upgrading to the new card:

        PrimaryScaling 0.500000
        SecondaryScaling 2.000000

It provides a very sharp image at 0 performance loss. However, I noticed that with DLSS, the lights on runways, taxiways and streets tend to be so small they barely are visible and not really "shiny" anymore.

So, after some experimenting in the last few days I put:

        PrimaryScaling 0.750000
        SecondaryScaling 1.500000

This is the magic spot! The 4060ti 16GB runs DLSS with DLAA added in DX11 mode and 1080p perfectly smooth and stable. Since using DLSS+DLAA provides a bit of additional sharpness compared to the other DLSS modes, a bit of "sharpening effect" can be sacrificed by increasing primary scaling, which enlarges the lights to a level where they are realistically shiny again. At the same time, virtually all blurriness and shimmering is removed, resulting in a perfect image. As a side note, I set everyhing else to maximum in the graphics settings, except for "Terrain Level of detail", which is set to 200, and "Objects level of detail" set to 100. The post processing options at the bottom are a matter of taste. Same goes for AMD reality FX sharpening, which I left on 200 since it makes aircraft details more visible.

Also, I recommend setting AF to 16x in nividia inspector and switch it to "off" in MSFS options.

As for DX12: i stopped using it for now, as the same setting uses up all my available VRAM and the frame generation causes more stuttering in resource intensive sceneries than it actually solves.

maybe i will help someone with this. 🙂

  12. Thanks everyone. I guess i solved it for now.

Switching the PCIe generation from "Auto" to "GEN3" in the BIOS made the GPU run stable. "GEN4" causes extreme issues. But it makes me wonder if there is any difference. I know the PCIe bus of the 4060ti is the primary drawback of this card (But 16GB of VRAM are a strong argument at least if you are a simmer 😁) but is it mandatory to run it on GEN3?

I am also facing chipset driver install issues on which I am waiting for ASUS support to reply to me. Maybe this is related to the GPU behaving strange but I dont know.

But right now i am experiencing MSFS smoothness I never had with any sim in my lifetime, with nearly maxed out settings apart from terrain LOD put to 220. 40FPS at EDDF or EHAM with FSLTL traffic and scenery addons. 😆

  13. Hello,

I finally managed to put some effort into my hardware and was throwing the old 970 out, replacing it with a 3 months old 4060ti a friend sold to me after not needing it anymore. I was seeing the card running fine on his system with a few games and benchmarks, however in my PC it just wont.

    System Specs are as following:

Ryzen 5 5600x, 32 GB of DDR4-3200 on ASUS ROG Strix B550f, 600w BeQuiet PurePower PSU, Windows 11 Pro with all recent updates.

Before installing the new card i was updating the BIOS of the Mainboard, just in case. Then removed all nvidia drivers using DDU and reinstalled. The windows GUI runs OK on "Microsoft Default Display device" but as soon as I install the nvidia drivers its where the problems start. The System runs bad overall, GUI hangs and stutters, windows take a few seconds to open and close and sometimes the display switches on and off again, or the machine just reboots. Any gaming/msfs runs with far worse performance than the 970 had (MSFS has the same settings I had before and I am down to 5 FPS with them).

I understand all this points towards a hardware malfunction but the card was running fine in my friends PC and my PC ran fine with the 970. Also the 600w PSU should be enough according to BeQuiet, the TDP of the 970 was 145W and the new 4060ti uses 160 so no big difference. So I am lost.

Could it be a problem that I am using a HDMI - DVI adapter to connect my monitor to the PC, instead of display port?

    Any other ideas?

  14. So, as of 2023 is it possible to create community folder mods replacing default sounds? We have the Layout Generator now for creating json files in community addons and apps like REX modify default files (asobospecies) as well. Specifically I want to replace the ambient sounds that come with the sim, as they are quite repetative and noticeably looping. But I am unable to find the default file/folder structure that MSFS uses for its sound files.

  15. I am not sure what Bijan replied to you so his answer may contradict me, but I think that Bijan Seasons never were updated since a while ago and have issues working with newer SU's released since then. Usually you the exe can be wherever it is, you specify the msfs community folder and whatever you chose in there is being installed to that location.

  16. Yes, blue lever.

Also make sure you switched vom VLOC to GPS in the bottom right of the GPS screen, at least if you want to follow a flightplan. Switch it back to make the plane follow a VOR OBS, obviously. 😉

EDIT: my bad didnt read correctly. For the autopilot to follow VOR you need to dial it in at the GPS screen (NAV1) and not on the nav radio, which is NAV2.

So, FSX didn't have that so you purchased an addon?  You can do the same with MSFS - my personal favourite is xEnviro 2020 for the amazing variety of cloud types.

Yes, and that addon was developed because 3rd party devs at HiFi were able and allowed to do so. I didnt try xEnviro so far and read mixed reviews about it. How do they deal with the closed-source asobo weather engine?

I have no idea, because you want a perfect simulator that will never exist in our lifetime.

I dont expect the core sim to be perfect, see above.

@Soulflight  Well of course the updates will become gradually less and less as MSFS2024 takes off, but I wouldn't call it abandonware yet, as there is still a lot of effort being put into it.

Don't forget of course that quite a lot of the improvements made to MSFS2020 can be carried over to MSFS2024, so as far as the developers are concerned, it won't be a totally wasted effort.  How much of the improvements can get carried over is hard to quantify of cousre, as only MS / Asobo know the plan!

Anyway, I am really hoping users find the same performance increases as me when SU13 goes live, as I am beginning to get worried it is too good to be true and it might just be me.

OK I cannot say anything about performance improvements. For me, it is fine and it was fine since months, and I dont have the most powerful computer on the planet with a very old GPU actually. So I dont know about others but I feel that performance is all that is being discussed regarding SUs. And thats a shame. I dont need 120 FPS, i am fine with 60, sometimes with 30 even, as long as I have interesting flights.

For example, we are still missing proper weather mechanics in live mode. Things like up- and downdrafts, multiple cloud types and layers etc. My old FSX setup with ActiveSky had that, in the contemporary possible way. It was shown in the previews to us but when the sim got released it didnt even have turbulence. 3rd party devs are still not allowed to do anything with MSFS weather injection.

Seasons, fine. Why were they not included in 2020? FSX and P3D had them. I had to buy an addon by REX for that one, which will turn obsolete since 2024 will have seasons by default.

AI traffic took ages to not be a complete mess. FSLTL is working acceptably now but the behavior still has some issues. Again, WoAI etc. was working fine in FSX. MSFS ATC is just a copy-paste from those times. Vehicles on the roads still look like placeholder pixels popping up randomly, in FSX they had headlights, making night approaches look credible (minor issue to be fair).

I deliberately waited with buying FS2020 until early last year, giving Asobo time to sort out all those things. 1,5 years on i sure did some flying but always waited for the next SUs to add what has been missing. Now its all in FS2024, according to the preview trailers. But why should I believe that?
