  1. Switch to P3D... I have a run of the mill desktop with a 6 year old i7 cpu @ 4ghz, GTX 470 and 6 gigs of Ram. I really did not expect to see the performance benefit from switching from FSX.SE to P3Dv3. Everything is sooooo much smoother at lower FPS. Admittedly, I have had to dial down the settings (not too much) but the sim still looks awesome with ORBX FTX global and the Queen. No traffic, 1024 clouds and stock airports. Its horses for courses on what your preference is but this works for me until I have the money to seriously upgrade. Last night I flew the tutorial from KDEN to KSFO and had 30 fps most the way there (the odd stutter but mostly smooth). I actually think the Queen performs better than the NGX for me. My advise for what its worth: try P3D. Best regards Martin Woulfe
  2. Ok guys thanks for your replies. I went and bought an X52 instead of the graphics card (impulse buy). Anyways, ill probably get a 1060 as the starting point of a full system overhaul in the next month or two when I have a few bob available again. Martin
  3. Hi guys, I am about to pull the trigger and upgrade my GTX470 to a GTX1060. They are both GDDR5 PCI express cards but will the GTX1060 be compatible with my P6X58D-E X58 MOBO (Socket 1366 DDR3)? My system is about 7 years old. I7 950 @ 4ghz with 6 gb RAM and SATA HDD if that helps you. Any advice greatly appreciated Martin
  4. Great stuff thank you... subscribed.
  5. Hi Holdit, I have many study level aircraft and find I am like a jack of all trades, master of none. Most of my time however is in the PMDG NGX and this is the aircraft that I know the best. I am at a point where I have memorised most of the flows from C&D to shutdown. When the FsLabs A320 is released I will remove all other aircraft from my sim and concentrate on it alone. I would suggest the following: Pick an aircraft that suits your type of flying first i.e. Short haul/Long haul Pick an aircraft that has good video tutorials/training (payware if you can afford it, YouTube if you can't) Angle of attack do the NGX and 777 Airline2sim do the Q400 and 777 and a320 in future Learn the cockpit flows/checklists from C&D to shutdown so you become proficient at operating the aircraft in normal conditions and can conduct a flight from A to B as close to real world procedures as possible. (Very satisfying when you master it) this will get better with every flight so stick with it. While in the cruise on each flight, read as much as possible about about your chosen aircraft so you know as much as possible about it. That's how I will do it when they release the A320 for P3D Regards Wolfee
  6. Chris/Jim, Thanks for your replies. @Chris, I had too had completely forgotten about the reset defaults button... After all these years of using FSX I just assumed it would be a convoluted process. I am programmed to expect nothing more. Got it sorted last night anyhow. Regards Martin
  7. Hi, Can anyone tell me how to restore fsx back to its default key commands? Thanks Martin
  8. Hi, I am having difficulty configuring my toe brakes on my saitek rudder pedals. Both the left and right toe brakes are using the x and y axis (elevator and ailerons) and I cannot change the assignments. I am doing this through the fs9 control assignments menu and not FSUIPC as I am using the unregistered version. I have the toe brakes configured perfectly in fsx so they do work. Any ideas Thanks Martin
  9. Hi The only sound I hear in the vc are the engines. I don't have sounds for button/switch clicks, flap handle, pack flow, ground roll, oxygen test, gear handle etc. Basically all sound effects aren't playing except for the engines. What I have done... Fresh install of Fsx/777 (installed as admin) Checked all sound levels Ensured Ops centre updated Tested various different Liveries (no change) Any suggestions? Thanks in advance Martin Woulfe
  10. Hi Current System: CPU-i7 950 (Bloomfield) oc stabally at 4ghz RAM-6 gigs (3x2) 1600 mhz GPU-gtx 470 HD-500 gig 7200 rpm SATA This system runs default FSX at 30 fps fairly smoothly with tweaks applied and pmdg grade addon aircraft. The visuals aren't great tho (dull) and scenery addons/ weather etc reduce the experience further. Proposed Upgrades HD-Western Digital 500gb 7200 rpm (solely for fsx) GPU-GTX 660/GTX 660ti RAM-2 sticks of 4gb (8gb) 1600 MHz CL 9 My question is: Will these proposed upgrades enhance the visuals and assist in running Fsx at 25-30 fps with various addons such as FsGenesis mesh, Ftx Global, active sky (moderate/low res cloud settings) and the airport addons? I don't necessarily want an "all sliders right" sim experience just better than I currently have. Any suggestions greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance Martin
  11. Thanks everyone for your advise and suggestions. I have some time for fsx tomorrow so I'll get back to you then let you know how it goes. Martin
  12. Hello Anybody know how to ensure that the sim loads into the 2d panel all the time while using EZCA. I have it set to load in the 2d in FSX but on initialisation of the flight EZCA takes over and puts me in the virtual cockpit. I know now that FS2crew definitely will not work correctly if not loaded in the 2D. I have asked this question in the EZCA section over at Simforums earlier today but haven't got an answer yet. Maybe some of the learned folk here might have some advise. Thanks in advance for your help Martin
  13. Hi guys Double Dutch to me... However I seem to have unwittingly solved the problem using some of jim's initial advise on the bios settings for RAM. All I did was tinker with the speeds. It advised me that one speed should be double or more what the other is so I changed that setting from auto to 3264mhz as offered in the drop down menu. (hope I've described it adequately I'm not at my PC to get you specifics) I have yet to experience a crash since making this change although I haven't really tested it much. Just a few circuits etc which would normally be enough to BSOD. Friday is set aside for flying so I'll know more after then and will report back but it looks promising so far. Regards Martin
