  1. Hi all. Am upgrading from a GTX 570 to a 670. Can I just unplug the old card and insert the new? Or should I uninstall some drivers first before inserting the new card? Any advice welcome.
  2. Can anyone explain why when I enable the ENB Series mod I experience a loss of sharpness to the whole display? I use the SUPERCAA 64x_4v12 setting. Without ENB Series enabled I have wonderfully crisp image quality. When enabled the whole thing looks as though it has been slightly softened. This effect does not occur if I use 8xS or 16xS antialiasing, but I much prefer to use 64x_4v12 as the sim looks better and runs smoother for me on this setting. Is there any way of avoiding this effect?
  3. Thanks all. Reassuring to know that I will be able to migrate easily to a bigger FSX SSD as my hangar expands! I guess now there's no excuse not to save up for FS Global Ultimate Terrain...
  4. Calling all SSD experts:My FSX is stored on a 120gb SSD. I have a couple of maintenance questions. 1) should I ensure TRIM is enabled? Is there any downside to this? (I have of course disabled any automatic defragging in Win 7)2) I use O&O disk image regularly (and certainly before trying any add-on or driver change) to image the entire PC. This includes my mechanical OS drive. If I upgrade the SSD to a larger drive one day, will I be able to restore the image of the old SSD to the larger SSD? (I know this expansion concept works with mechanical drives... does it also work with SSDs?)Thanks
  5. Word Not Allowed - any recommendations on how best to update the BIOS? I go to Asus site, I find a dos-based utility as well as separate zip file version updates. My version (1618) is not listed at all which I find odd. Latest version appears to be v2001 but the one prior to this states a SATA controller upgrade also needs installing. Does this still hold? American Megatrends site has further scanning utilities etc. Any help for a novice appreciated - I really don't want to wreck anything..
  6. I recently trialled the demo of Aivlasoft's EFB and decided not to proceed due to a perceived lack of charts (SIDs, STARs and landing) for the flights I was making that month. (I am working my way round the world and was flying across Greenland, then down to Newfoundland and New Brunswick.)Perhaps I am being greedy and should stick to flying in the US. But I felt underwhelmed by having to manually find charts on the Internet despite using such an otherwise impressive product. Or am I missing something? It seems that nowhere is there a good selection of worldwide charts available without having to trawl through local aviation authority sites for the country in question. Any pointers/advice appreciated as this really dims my FSX enjoyment.
  7. I have a similar problem. Same motherboard, i5 2500k o/c'd to 4.8gHz. Mine will randomly (1 in 5) shut down a few seconds after booting. I can tell when it will happen because the fan speeds don't slow down at all (on a successful boot the speed dips a little shortly after power-on). After such a shut-down, it will restart on its own. Then (guaranteed) it will crash at the windows wobbly flag logo (after a successful POST). Only option then is a manual power-down. On restarting it then offers to do a Windows repair. If choosing this, it announces it fails to fix anything. If choosing normal start-up it works fine. Could this be the same problem as the OP? Not wishing to hijack but hoping this will shed more light for someone with more expertise than me.
  8. I've never looked back since installing FSX on a dedicated SSD. No gain in FPS, but...Significantly better load times. No more defragging. And I've had no reliability issues with my Intel 120gb model.
  9. Well I'm excited. I am awaiting delivery of a major upgrade to my rig - a new OC'd i5-2500k with a dedicated Intel SSD for FSX and nVidia 570X is on its way. I can't wait to get going installing FSX and my add-ons and enjoying (hopefully) FSX near-nirvana.I am well on top of the install procedure for Windows 7, FSX, UTX, GEX, REX and UT2, and will be following received wisdom every step of the way just to make sure I don't screw anything up. Crikey, I've done it enough times now I reckon I could do it blindfolded... BUT I am also strangely anxious. A familiar spectre lurks at the back of my mind... installing the OPTIMAL video driver. I am frankly dreading going through every permutation under the sun of nVidia drivers, Inspector settings, and .cfg tweaks in the everquest for stability and quality. My understanding is that 266.58 is the earliest driver that is compatible with GTX 570. Would I be right in assuming it is also the most reliable? Should I risk installing any of the 27xx series drivers? All I want is to be able to fly demanding add-on aircraft in stutter-free flight with decent FSX graphics settings - and I am happy to sacrfice some IQ at the top end of the spectrum to achieve this. Any thoughts? Has anyone succesfully configured a similar spec to achieve fluid motion? If so, I would love to hear about your driver, Inspector and Bufferpool settings ...
