November 14, 201114 yr Hi i have just built a new pc for fsx and am having this problem. When i start up the computer it boots for about three seconds and then switches off. About 4 seconds later it switches back on and runs normally without any problems. I also get a hard drive not found message however when the system is loaded the HD works fine.Any help would be much appreciated.Regards Chris

November 15, 201114 yr Author It's a p8p67 I also when booting get the overclocking failed error, and I havnt even tried to overclocking. When I go into the bios page the turbo setting is set to 43 which I don't think is the stock speed thanks
November 15, 201114 yr I have a similar problem. Same motherboard, i5 2500k o/c'd to 4.8gHz. Mine will randomly (1 in 5) shut down a few seconds after booting. I can tell when it will happen because the fan speeds don't slow down at all (on a successful boot the speed dips a little shortly after power-on). After such a shut-down, it will restart on its own. Then (guaranteed) it will crash at the windows wobbly flag logo (after a successful POST). Only option then is a manual power-down. On restarting it then offers to do a Windows repair. If choosing this, it announces it fails to fix anything. If choosing normal start-up it works fine. Could this be the same problem as the OP? Not wishing to hijack but hoping this will shed more light for someone with more expertise than me.
November 15, 201114 yr Author Hi torkermax thanks for replying i havnt overlclocked mine at all i think it is still running at stock speed so not sure do you have any other ideas. I wouldnt think it would be overclocking failure if i havnt overlclocked. Thanks Chris

That and BIOS update should fix it.
November 16, 201114 yr Author Thanks Word Not Allowed, i was just wondering about the APM option how do i go about changing that, and also Will it be causing any damage to the computer by it rebooting. Regards Chris.

November 17, 201114 yr Word Not Allowed - any recommendations on how best to update the BIOS? I go to Asus site, I find a dos-based utility as well as separate zip file version updates. My version (1618) is not listed at all which I find odd. Latest version appears to be v2001 but the one prior to this states a SATA controller upgrade also needs installing. Does this still hold? American Megatrends site has further scanning utilities etc. Any help for a novice appreciated - I really don't want to wreck anything..

Just need to download the correct file from ASUS support site, unzip it and then go there with the utility from BIOS.Updating BIOS is good, and usually nothing bad ever comes from it. But it's own risk, as usual.I don't know about SATA controller, as I'm not using it. I disable both Marvell and JMicron in my BIOS, they are not needed, neither they provide better performance really.

On the second try it just does everything on its own without a problem. Word Not Allowed, where in the Bios do you find that? Is a flash device needed? Are you referring to the Asus AI Suite II utility which can also flash the bios. Does anyone know what is the latest (and best) Asus Bios number?Kind regards,

I'm living with it.Umm, some last page, where you save and load your profiles I think, there is a thing I think it's called EZ Flash Utility... no AI Suite, nothing with windows. I don't like flashing from Windows. I prefer from BIOS, I think that's the safest way, as you don't implicate anything else.I always use the latest posted on the ASUS site.
November 17, 201114 yr Moderator I have an old 9650 in a Rampage II clocked at 3.88 that did the exact same thing. Other than it happened, I never had a problem with that system - so I just left it alone. If it doesn't cause a problem, why mess with it and possibly screw something else up? November 17, 201114 yr Author Well everything hopefully is ok now. Updated the bios and changed the PPI settings and fingers crossed i have had no dual boots. It switched on and stays on so only time will tell. Thanks for all the advice on here its really helped better than ASUS support. Thanks Chris
