  1. Hi All, My simpit is nearing completion and I have started to look at GPS options for some added immersion.. I checked out the vrinsight 5 but I am put off by the fact that fsx has to run in windowed mode, you see I use 3 projectors in nvidia 3d vision, putting fsx into windowed mode means I cannot run the screens in 3d. Next there is the Emuteq gns 530 which works with reality XP's gns 530, but again it must be run in windowed mode. I will keep on looking but does anyone know of a solution that will work with FSX in fullscreen or a workaround, im thinking maybe fsuipc gpsout with the GPS software on a networked PC and the hardware from vrinsight or emuteq but have found no info on this just that rxp does run over a network.. Of course it does not have to be a gns530 any garmin unit would be ok but the hardware I have found is only the 500 or 530. I have tried fswidgets gplan ect and they are good but want a true GPS simulation. All the best Mike
  2. Just ran the benchmark test using a amd powercolour 7970.. Average 42.8 comparing that against my 590 it seems the Amd has the edge.. While watching the benchmarks run on the AMD I notice that the flashes I get with the nvidia have gone but it also looks like anti aliasing does not work as well as with the nvidia.. Hopefully tomorrow I will run the tests with the GTX690..
  3. Because a 690 according to the benchmarks I found is kicking my 590's butt :) I game at 3840 x 720 in 3d vision surround so I need all the power I can get.. I was tied between going 680sli or 690 and John is right 580's are still in short supply, although apparently sli 670's are matching 90-95% of the 680sli performance so if cost was a factor I could have gone £700 for 2x gtx670's but I opted for gtx 690 for the extra £190 it cost, the thing is a work of art :) Results in on my first stage of testing.. at first I could not get passed an average of 28fps.. Then I moved the monitor to one of the other card dvi outputs and manually changed Physx to that slot on the GTX590 .. I then scored an average of 42fps at 4.5ghz.. So nothing exciting there.. still have autogen constantly popping up and occasional flashes but a very slight micro stutter I used to get with the sandybridge seems to have gone.. Gonna have a delay now as windows is installing 106 updates :0 LOL
  4. So my new Ivybridge turned up this morning.. It was an oveclocked bundle from scan.. Mobo= asus P877-v Delux I7 3770k clocked to 4.6ghz 8gb corsair vengance.. OCZ 240gb Vortex4.. Since I have now acumulated 3 corsair 120gb ssd drives (120gb was eaten up so quickly) I decided to try raid 0 on 2x corsair 120gb windows went in a treat but then I got to thinking why not 3x 120gb in raid 0 since they are all the same, so I did that..I dont think it worked so well as installing adobe reader and the asus drivers seemed to take forever..I went ahead and installed FSX and noticed straight away that the first splash screen was taking 30-40 seconds which has never been the case normally 10 seconds on my previous system.. I ran the fsxmark11 test anyway to see how it faired and I get average 28 FPS.. I am now reinstalling windows on the vertex4 drive and will try again.. Should have a gtx690 with me tomorrow for some more testing :)
  5. Welcome to my world.. :) Been playing with this myself for a while, First thing is to make sure you altter the main fsc.cfg file under the [Display] settings is a line that by default is "Widescreen=False" change that to "True" then just use the keyboard commands to change zoom, eyepoint adjustment etc.. Unfortunately with this you will still get stetched out side windows and the only soloution I have found to fix this is to use 3 camera views, left, centre, right..Do a google search for fsx windowmaker and you will find a link on the mycockpit forum to an excel spreadsheet tool that can create the views for you so they all match up.. Problem is it kills framerates and makes the use of track IR useless. still looking for an alternative method that can give180- 220 FOV without issues.
  6. Well using the asus software cpu temp is at 35 Celsius.. Voltage is at 1.425, vcore im not sure of.. Just run a test 5ghz ovclock HT off affinity mask 84 frame rate dropped from 45 to 42 for the fsxbench test.. turned Hyperthreading back on , affinity mask 14 frame rates back upto 45.. It seems ebuyer cant do late shipping on the MOBO I was looking at so will hold off on ordering for now.. Can you explain why you might go with IB3770k Z77 mobo over something like the i7 3820 on an x79 mobo, the later is more expensive and Im just thinking the old saying you get what you pay for.. If it costs more is it not better?
  7. Im following the guide on the ROG forum, which actually has some simple screen shots walking you through the overclocking procedure.. It mentions how only around 10% of users can get over 5ghz.. Im not going to heavy into to it just increasing a few of the numbers and seeing what happens.
  8. I just read some comparison reviews on the GTX680 vs the GTX590.. It looks like the 590 creates uses software sli and so gets hammered when compared to 2x gtx680's in sli which is hardware based. It also seems that the gtx680 supports pcie3, and the mother board Im looking at both have 2x pcie 3 slots. but to utilise PCIe 3 you need to be using an ivybridge chip. oc 5ghz- results just in, average 45.5FPS CPU 35 degc now ill go for 5.2ghz.. 5.2 and 5.1 froze on windows splash screen so looks like 5ghz it is..Im gonna read up on the asus forum about offset see if I can get it higher..
  9. Wouldn't you just believe it, No sooner as I post the last message I moved the GPU again and ran fsxbench 11 got an average result of 34.. No overclock.. Just put a 4.8 overclock on it and have run the 4 fsxbench tests and got an average of 44FPS.. As I am typing this its running another test at 5ghz Overclock... But will this be like last night when I achieve a good frame rate and tomorrow when I reboot its back to 25 again.. I think what I will do is order the following anyway, We have a 7day returns rule in the UK so if I dont use them ill send them back and all its cost is a little postage..Good job work is not to busy at the moment, the wife is just glaring at me while I swear at this computer when I should be doing the embroidery LOL.. Gainward GeForce® GTX 680 Phantom 4GB GDDR5 Dual DVI DisplayPort HDMI PCI-E Asus P8Z77-V DELUXE Z77 Socket 1155 8 Channel HD Audio ATX Motherboard or maybe Asus SABERTOOTH Z77 Socket 1155 HDMI DisplayPort 8 Channel Audio ATX Mother Intel Core i7 3770K 3.5GHz Socket 1155 8MB Cache Retail Boxed Processor this ones not showing stock so I would have to wait on it..or just get this one Intel Core i7 3770 3.4GHz Socket 1155 8MB Cache Retail Boxed Processor
  10. Believe me I have tried, I have spent the last 4 days on forums trying to figure this out.. Its one of those really anoying issues you cant nail down.. If I send the stuff for testing I will be without anything for several weeks just to have them say they cant find anything wrong..If I played safe I could order just a Ivybridge chip which should work with my current MOBO, if results remain poor then I know its the MOBO, by changing the processor things do pick up then Im stuck with a gen2 board that doesnt have all the gen3 features that a gtx680 and Ivybridge can use so I might as well get them together. I need new computers for work anyway so although this one didnt work out for FSX it can still be used elsewhere..Im not a FPS chaser but I will be using this in my 3 projector 270FOV curved screen setup and in 3dVision surround so I really need the extra power.. For example when I ran Kostas recommended setup on just my single screen at 1650x1050 res and activated 3 camera views which I need for 270FOV frame rates dropped to 20.. Once I throw in 3d and a res of 3840x720 that will drop to 10FPS.. I have just been reading up on the GTX680 and it appears it has more power than even my 590 which is basically 2 580's. and in 3d surround I will probably need to go GTX680 SLI..FSX cant make use of the sli but the 3d surround will..
  11. Me again..Little confused on the processor stakes.. Ivybridge is a 1155 socket only correct? and that is the same as the sandybridge correct? So whats the socket 2011,is that not considered an option for FSX?
  12. Hi guys first off thanks for the time spent creating the fsxbench test, it has highlighted a problem with my hardware, nedless to say my setup is running way below what it should.. After feeling my Pc was running FSX too slow I followed the installation instructions for fsxmark11 to the letter.. CPU intel i7- 2700k 3.5 overclocked to 4.6 HT on. Mobo- ASUS Maximus extreme z68 Ram- Corsair vengance 8gb DDR 1866 GPU- Nvidia gtx 590 HDD- Corsair 120gb Force SSD Average frame rates 28, I run loads of test last night and after putting my GPU in another pcie slot I got up to 42FPS which I was going to live with but this morning its dropped back to 28fps.. I think I will throw in the towel on this one and order a new MOBO and processor.. If I order by 10pm GMT I can have all the parts here tomorrow, hopefully ill have more luck and then can send back my parts for testing. Ill be ordering from here http://www.ebuyer.com/store/Components/cat/Motherboards-Intel so MOBO and processor combo let me know which I should go for..Yes you get to help me spend my money.. and I would love to get a top slot on the fsxbench11 results so Iam very interested in your thoughts, Hopefully HL James can chime in on this choices please gentelmen.. GTX680 can also be here tomorow for testing if you really want to know how it does..
  13. I thought moving PCIE slots had fixed my issue last night.. Finally got an Avg FPS of 32 with no overclock and fsxmark11 test..I then applied a 4.8mhz overclock and got an average 42FPS, still not great but I would live with that and way better than my previous best of 27FP in fsxmark11..Tried all sorts of test, kostas harware guide etc but never got past the 42 mark.. It was a late night by the time I went to bed.. So my memory and a corsair H80 cooler turn up this morning, so before I change anything I run the test again, everything left the same my FPS has dropped back to 25 :( So all day I have been trying to get the 42 average back, I have tried different PCIE slots, I have swapped out memory, and just upgraded my bios to see if I can get this thing working.. I think I will throw in the towel on this one and order a new MOBO and processor.. Im going to join in on the other thread discussing the ivybridge..If I order by 10pm GMT I can have all the parts here tomorrow, hopefully ill have more luck and then can send back my parts for testing. Ill be ordering from here http://www.ebuyer.com/store/Components/cat/Motherboards-Intel so MOBO and processor combo let me know which I should go for..Yes you get to help me spend my money.. and I would love to get a top slot on the fsxbench11 results..
  14. Why the GTX590? Well I was lead to belive that this was basically 2 x gtx580 in one..Im starting to think the GTX580 would have been a better option but I would still need 2 of them as I use Nvidia 3d surround, accross 3x 3d projectors.. Just want confirm that for testing purposes I just used 1 standard NEC monitor at the recomended res.. Im tempted to order a GTX580 (try it and send it back, but dont tell anyone) just to see if it improves things.. I have these memory modules arriving tomorow so will be able to try, the only G-Skill CL7 kit aviliable was 1600mhz.. G-Skill 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 1600Mhz RipjawsX Memory Kit CL9 (9-9-9-24) 1.5V G-Skill 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 1600Mhz RipjawsX Memory Kit CL7 (7-8-7-24) 1.5V G-Skill 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 2133MHz RipjawsX Memory Kit CL11 (11-11-11-30) 1.5V Never played with the bios settings for the pcie slots so will also try that.. At least the ASUS Bios has little pictures (as you can tell not much experience with bios settings)
  15. Not trying to hi jack the thread but I have been getting a similar issue..I did post this on the fsxmark11 thread but that probably doesnt want to get filled up with my PC issues.. My setup Processor: Intel Core i7 [email protected] [HT Off] Motherboard: Asus Maximus extreme iv z RAM: Corsair Dominator 8GB DDR3-1866 cl9 Watercooling: Corsair H80 Power Supply: Corsair AX850 Case: Corsair 600 Graphics Card: asus gtx590 Harddrives: Corsair Force GT 120GB SSD Ok so tried everything over the weekend I could think of... I have 3 corsair 120gb ssd drives, so first test were with original windows and clean FSX install--Avg 27 FPS Tried another hard drive with new windows 7 64 bit install and new FSX install got Avg- 28 FPS.. Set mother board to bios default 3.9ghz got -24 FPS Overclocked motherboard to 4.8ghz-- got blue screen on 2nd run of benchmark Overclocked MOBO to 4.7ghz - Got Avg of 29FPS I read the post about GPU being in the wrong slot so have just checked my manual, and Im in the second slot down from the top which is marked as PCIE x16_2 the alternatives are PCIE 16/8_1, PCIE x8_3, PCIE x16_4 I take it the 16 are quicker than the 8? But I will try the GPU in all other slots tonight to see what happens.. Now I have always thought the memory was an issue since my Bios only ever sees 1600mhz and setting manually to 1866 always causes a bluescreen on boot.. I dont know alot aboutthese things but it was sugested to load the XMP profile which does allow me to boot, but dont know what it is actually doing.
