  1. Thanks mikejr! Sorry for the delay, I've been busy & haven't been back to AVSIM for a while. First, thank you so much for your hard work! I owe you a beer (Or 2. Or 3. Or n...? :-)) Unfortunately I'm still unable to download the FS9 files or I would try to be of more help. I followed your links to the MAAMSIM site, but unfortunately I still keep getting "404 not found" errors when I try to download. But yes, your spoiler limits fix certainly did the trick & my boarding ladders now work! THANK YOU! I'm happy with just this much in the event that I'm inclined to take screenshots. When I have some spare time I will tinker some more to get the paratrooper effects to work to some extent. I tweaked the .cfg for the cargo effects before & it appeared to work. Once I test it a little more I'll be happy to share it here. I also agree that though I was quite pleased with MAAMSIM's B-25 FSX conversion, I am only marginally satisfied with the C-47. Just Flight offers a package which includes both towed and flyable combat gliders. In fact, the air drop features were a primary draw for the MAAMSIM package, as I certainly did not NEED another C-47/DC-3, but my expectations were based on the B-25 package so I was confident that it would be worth the $30. I concur that it seems as if somebody said "Oh. It should work in FSX too," so they just went ahead and inserted FSX into the product description with little or no additional work/testing. Additionally, I've had a coupke of PM/e-mails with one person who was supposedly part of the MAAMSIM team, and the only help they offered was to go ask the forum & essentially "you're on your own." (Not a direct quote, but the jist of it). I sent a couple follow-up e-mails but haven't heard a word from them since. Understood that they were essentially (or actually) volunteers and that the team has since retired, but I think MAAMSIM owes some better "truth in advertising" for a $30 package & if they're going to continue to sell an unsupported product with known issues in FSX then they should say so up front. Or quit selling it if they don't want to be bothered with it anymore. I do enjoy many other aspects of the package, so I'm not ready to rant, but I am still inclined to post a BUYER BEWARE message & reference this thread so that others will know that it is no longer supported, they can make an informed decision to buy or not, & if so they can find your excellent work & helpful hints here if they want it badly enough to be willing to tinker it up to speed. Thanks again!
  2. Hi mikejr: Did you have any luck fixing the C-47 boarding ladder? Where did you find the expansion pack files? I searched MAAM-SIM and AVSIM but I couldn't find them (I just have the "megapack" or whatever they call it that I purchased from the MAAM-SIM store). I had noticed that the EFFECTS sections of my .cfg were glaringly in error (missing paratrooper and cargo .fx files) so I suspect other files might be in error too (i.e. whatever file controls the ladder animation). I heard from one of the former MAAM-SIM guys once over the summer but never heard from him again. Otherwise, I'm going to feel inclined to post a "Buyer Beware" topic for this (air drop effects don't work as advertised with zero product support...)
  3. Part 2... So I ran the 10th edition installer to a temporary folder & here's what I'm seeing: -Effects files for cargo, paratroopers (UK and US) -The EFFECTS section of the .cfg files for those versions of the aircraft do NOT reference those effects. They reference an "oil drip" effect instead that is mapped to the smoke ("I") key. Editing the .cfg to the correct fx filenames was unsuccessful. -I can't see what's happening with the spoiler ("/") key and tailhook ("T") keys, but as noted previously the ladder does not extend/retract as "advertised." It remains permanently fixed in the extended position to the left aft fuselage. At this point I'm guessing that perhaps the entire "paratrooper/cargo airdrop" upgrade somehow was not included in the 10th edition installer or did not install? (wrong/missing files?) Can anybody from MAAM please reply? Thanks.
  4. I haven't had it crash on me during a flight, but it seems every time I end a flight with it, FSX crashes to desktop. Running FSX + Acceleration on Windows 7 64-bit. A gazillion add-ons including REX, FScene4, etc. FWIW...
  5. I am unable to get the troop ladder, paratrooper, troop seats, or other related animations to work. The jump doors/cargo doors works OK (opens/closes with assigned door commands). My "/" key is assigned (spoilers). My "I" key is assigned (smoke) My "T" key is assigned (tailhook) They work on other models. I'm using the correct versions (e.g. BBMF & "Warton" for paratrooper animations, etc.) I've read the manuals/docs but I can't find anything that I'm missing? Anything I should look for in the .cfg or something that might need correction? (I found the missing altimeters in the other C-47 models & corrected those myself.) Appreciate any help. Thanks.
  6. I'm typically running about a 50% "happy passenger" rating. Anybody here ever fly charter or scenics in real life? I'd say this is one thing that Flight has nailed "spot on!" LOL!!!! :LMAO: (Had a friend who flew scheduled service in a floatplane. Customers got angry when they discovered that he couldn't land at the international airport: 1) because he doesn't have the "little wheels" under the floats and 2) because ATC wouldn't let him anyway even if he did! :P ) Just flew a biplane tour from Lihue. Apparently I was "busted" because I chose to takeoff from the closest runway rather than taxi 2 miles to the designated departure runway (And that made my passenger UNHAPPY???). As I would've done in real life, I would've requested the closest runway from ATC... It is annoying though that the (female, in this case) voice effect goes on all cheerful & happy despite burning you. Two-faced little wench!!! I had a $100 hamburger mission in the Stearman with a frisky-sounding female voice. Sounded like she was "game," so at a safe altitude, I decided to roll it. At which point she freaked out apparently. She said something fairly innocuous about "making her earn her burger," but her little passenger icon went "!" Then it went "?" Then it returned to green checkmark so I thought she was OK again. Apparently not, as she seems to have held it against me with my "happy score" at the end. If Flight is that picky about your flying technique, I don't know how you can earn a "happy pax" in those biplane ride jobs. Don't know about the rest of you, but my Stearman is pretty "buggy" on the ground- idles high & picks up speed even if I pull her mixture back. Brakes are "grabby," even if I set them for "smooth/easy." In FSX, as much as I love A2A's Accusim Cub, "Heidi" the passenger is a bit annoying in this regard as well. If you do anything short of an ABSOLUTE "squeaker" for a landing, like all you can feel are the tires give, she's neutral at best. And if you touch down with the moderate "plunk" of a normal & healthy landing, she starts grunting & complaining about her back. So if you want to keep her happy, you have to carry a smidge of throttle and float about 2/3 down the runway to get that pure "clean wheelie" to satisfy her. Which is poor technique in the real world, of course. But hey, it's just a game... I was about to throw in the towel with the "jobs" in Flight, but I guess I'll skip the "buggy" Stearman & try some $100 hamburgers only in the RV-6A or the Icon. See if my "happy pax index" improves...
  7. LOL! I actually tried Flight BECAUSE of the vitriol! No, seriously… I had read some unflattering reviews, and I was dismissive at first as sounding too much of an “arcade game.” But when I read all the (sometimes comical!) “outrage,” I decided that I had to see for myself what all the fuss was about. So I tried it and I found that I actually LIKED Flight! Accepting it for what it is… I’m not an airline pilot like "rtodepart" above, but I’m an engineer, CFI, and former military pilot. I’m also more of a “simmer,” but I find Flight to be a pleasant diversion from my usual sim repertoire (which includes FSX). I bought the Hawaii pack for Flight, but since then I’ve “reinvigorated” my interest in FSX with addons such as Warbirdsim’s Mustang packages, A2A’s Accusim Spitfire, and Flight Replica’s Super Cub Ultra (pardon the shameless “plugs,” I guess…? :-). I do enjoy Flight’s “eye candy,” weather modeling, and some of the flight behavior such as crosswinds and downdrafts. I don’t miss the ATC functionality or all the AI traffic, but I’m more of a GA or vintage “simmer.” I enjoy Flight’s Icon, Stearman (though a bit “buggy” with engine idle & braking), and the RV-6A. Hope they add a helicopter. Seeing the helipads in the scenery, that looks like a reasonable bet. Don’t want to reopen any wounds, but I agree with "Yahooligan’s" previous observation. I wasn’t a beta tester, but having visited the Microsoft forum my observation is that their leadership team could’ve done a better job seriously communicating in order to avoid some of the negative reaction from customers (in my observation, both “gamers” and “simmers” alike). That would be my biggest “dislike” about Flight. But it’s Microsoft’s choice whether to respond seriously to customers’ (civil) feedback, and it’s customers’ choice whether to buy additional Flight DLC or not. It’s not difficult. But Flight shows wonderful potential to be enjoyed by veteran “simmers” who can accept it for what it is, AND offers a friendly, non-intimidating experience for newcomers to our hobby!
