I hope do not offend anyone but...

I'm a bit disagree with who doesn't want see negative post about flight. This is a section discussing about flight. Not a section discussing positive things in flight. Deny negative posts sounds like open a section in an hardware forum about a motherboard and ask people to post only positives things and no the defects. I love flight, but my personal thought is that the people should be free to share their thoughts, while keeping respect and good manners.

The forum is a public place where all can speak, this is the idea. Let them write what they want, I'm sure there is someone in the world looking for a negative post, they also need to find what they are looking for.

Somebody will read its post, somebody doesn't. Somebody will be block . This is a great example of democracy :)

I love avism and love you, expert simmers, I learn tons of things with your posts every day, but from negative posts too.

I agree in principle, but it did get out of hand last time - which is why they had to take this drastic step. If one doesn't like a game fine - don't play it. But the level of negativity was getting ridiculous - people were spoiling it for others and potential future simmers. I am usually against censorship but I must admit its has made the forum readable. I don't like X-Plane but I don't go around posting negatively on X-Plane forums - people who like X-Plane should be left in peace to enjoy it.

Hopefully, the moderating hand will be relaxed fairly soon as everyone has learnt a lesson and there won't be a repeat.

I don't think this IS a public forum, in the sense that it is funded by taxpayers. It is a private forum, which we the public are kindly allowed to enter, but are asked - in very clear terms by Tom - to follow certain rules of conduct.

I don't think there is a single person on this forum who is not conscious of shortcomings in the game, so having these aspects endlessly pointed out is pointless and boring. Those of us who have bought DLC of the islands (some have even dabbled with cockpitless planes) are more focused on enjoying its strengths and discovering its depths.

If you can contribute in those areas that would be great...

It's a tough one. On one hand you want to allow people to air their views, but at the same time we need balance, like everything in life.

Actually, I'm not so much concerned that people writing negative things about Flight might spoil the fun for others. I appreciate a critical discourse, as long as people express their views in a rational and polite manner. And those who only post BS can easily be adressed.

Just look at the Joshua Howard interview thread. After several pages of rants it actually turned into a constructive discussion.

If you deny people the right to say what they think is wrong with the sim, then it will never get any better. Also there lies a danger in surrounding yourself only with people who think the same way you do. Because eventually you might get the impression that you're always right.

Answering to this thread is already a violation of the rules, but I do it just because I would like to share with you my reasons for continuing to participate in this forum:

1) I have been a long time user of AVSIM (believe I started in 2003/2004 (?), but I quited posting for more than 2,5yrs, the same period I was away from flightsimming altogether. I returned becase AVSIM Forums are the place I feel "at home". I like to interact with all of you, I like the overall structure of the forums and AVSIM's site, so, I like it here...

2) Being a guest to the AVSIM group, I have to adhere to their rules. I can either opt not to post anymore, or try to follow the rules. Question is - will these rules make me like AVSIM less? For me the answer is a round "NO" - That way, I decided that the only reasonable thing I could do was to "play by the rules".

3) With this rules or without it, this and other AVSIM forums are still my preferred source of daily simming information (together with Xplane10 Blog at Worldpress

4) Posting the kind of subjects now clearly stated as allowed here will certainly contribute to enrich my already GREAT experience with FLIGHT (the simulator I already consider as the one that more positively marked my longer than 25 yrs flightsimmer "career"!!!)

I feel great around here :-)

One thing I observed as a beta tester that I think has contributed heavily to the very bitter response from the pulbic. During the beta there were hundreds of suggestions from the testers themselves literally begging for certain features to be added to the game. For the most part, all of it fell on deaf ears from the FLIGHT team. Now this is just my perspective, but the appearance was, MS was not interested in anyones ideas period!, only reports of bugs. That really infuriated a lot of users who have been very long time FS fans, many of which are members here and are very well respected in the FS community. The backlash that has followed, is in response, I feel, from the "we don't care what you think" attitude coming from the FLIGHT team. I'm not saying I think the very brash responses are welcome or in any way acceptable, but I completely understand. The very public MS invited to test the product, were shunned by the FLIGHT team. Its only human nature to respond likewise. So sadly, those disapointed testers had to find someplace to vent their frustration. AVSIM became a target for that.

Are you all really going to keep going on this topic?

I enjoy being able to chat with you and would hate for anyone to be shown the door due to stepping on our host's "one good nerve."

I had learn that in our comunity Its hard for some people to learn how to agree to disagree and act in a mature way about it ... lets think of avsim as a flight deck and learn how to share it and flight together ...

I hardly ever write on forums, and I don't even have Flight on my computer. But I began looking at the AVSIM forum a few months ago, in particular to read comments about Flight. During that brief time, I have once or twice been a little surprised about the moderation, although I have not really given it that much thought. I don't know how it compares with other forums, but I now have quite a distinct impression that AVSIM is good for all things flightsim, but it's really getting quite heavily moderated, and you have to be really careful not to criticise a product.

I'm grateful for AVSIM as it makes for interesting reading, when you have some time to spare, but if you're going to provide a forum, you should allow discussion and debate, including pointing out areas of concern regarding a product - For example, some people do have concerns about "no cockpits", which is a valid point I think, but it's now clear those people are no longer wanted as members. There's a danger that AVSIM will appear to "have no respect" for those people with any sort of criticism to express.

There's lots of positive things to say about Flight it seems, but to dismiss any adverse comments is like saying "I know better than you".

Yes putting a stop on specific criticisms that have been aired numerous times already would be alright, but, with due respect, not allowing any mention of new concerns that may arise in future (as long as they are put in a civil manner) would seem a little unusual for a forum I would think.

Guys, you may want to read Tom's post again on this subject.

Now for those that have been here a while, it is pretty obvious the type of folks he is referring too. And I do not blame him one bit in that regard, in fact I was a little surprised it took as long as it did to get to this point...

I do not see it as not allowing any " constructive" criticism in any way.

I suspect mosts folks know what he is talking about and what will not be tolerated.

Just my couple pennies worth...

And if you really want to see what can happen when left unchecked, just go spend some time reading in the Flight archive that got shut down 2 weeks prior to the launch of Flight - it was pretty darn bad.

Please actually read Tom's warning statement. You are very much in agreement with him, yet seem to think you disagree.

MS finally disabled comments on their MS Flight page a few days ago. Doesn't surprise me, a LOT of the comments there were clearly out of line.

There's no place like this place, so this must be the place.
